We have been looking at other successful Bingo operations to see what works for them. We have a lot of good ideas and will meet with Bingo and Pull Tab Captains to make changes. Once we have decided on the changes to be made we will give the players advance notice of the changes. We hope to make our Bingo meet the expectations of the players and increase our sales at the same time. We will stay smoke free. We will begin serving food every Friday night starting this month. We will begin on June 12th and if successful we will continue serving food every Friday. We plan to serve meals as low as $4. The menu will include hamburgers, breaded chicken sandwich, grilled chicken, breaded pork chop sandwich, fish sandwich, French fries, onion rings, cheese sticks, and a kids menu to start. We will add more items or adjust the menu as needed. The bar will be open for service. Hours will be from 5-7:30 pm every Friday. We will need to build a few teams of three per team. Each team will need a licensed bartender, a cook, and someone to take orders. At least 4 teams will be needed. We will be looking for volunteers. Grand Knight Dan Tinsley Election of Officers will take place at our meeting this month. Please plan to attend the meeting and take part in the election. The next few years will be a challenge for us as we look to change and improve our revenue stream. Page 2 The Knightly News The Simplest Things Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things. Take the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it could very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since been married, that could be updated to reflect your spouse or your children. Most people list a primary beneficiary – that person is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary – an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured. I routinely call all of our policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy – Family of the Month I look forward to meeting with each of you. Tom Scarlett – Field Agent 812-276-5062 John and Amy Marshek have been selected as our Family of the Month for May. John and Amy have two children, Trevor and Teagan. John is a member of a Bingo team, Fish Fry Team, Habitat for Humanity Build Team and also participates in our council’s annual Tootsie Roll Drive. John and his family are members of St. Mary’s Parish where John is a collection counter, Parish Council member, and is involved with the building and grounds committee. Amy completed the RCIA program in 2009. She is a member of the social committee, and along with John, helps St Mary’s with their annual Persimmon Festival Dinner. Amy is a Master Gardner, soccer coach, and helps Habitat for Humanity with her landscaping talents. Trevor and Teagan are avid pop tab collectors, soccer players, and help out at St. Mary’s with cleanup after parish events. Treavor is also an alter server. Congratulations to John, Amy, Trevor and Teagan for being selected as our Family of the Month! Anniversaries (continued) (Continued from page 1) And Oh By The Way…. One of the matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment. Kim & Marty Scherschel 06/30 30 Years We will have our Family Night Pitch-In on Friday May 29th beginning at 7PM. We will also do our 50/50 drawing at that time. I have enjoyed the last three years as Grand Knight; however I am looking forward to my new position as Trustee (if elected). I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and support during my time as Grand Knight. Congratulations to Darrell and Fraternally, Loretta May on their 50th Dan Tinsley, GK Wedding Anniversary! Electronic Newsletter - Running the Numbers We now have 28 members who have requested to receive the Knightly News by email. Does this really amount to any significant savings? Well, lets look at the numbers. The last invoice for printing of our monthly newsletter was $88 for a quantity of 265 newsletters. This averages out to a cost of about 33 cents each. Mailing of newsletters, at our bulk postage rate, is about 16 cents per newsletter. So, to print and mail one newsletter we’re looking at a cost of about 49 cents per month or $5.88 per year. Multiply this by the 28 members who are now receiving the Knightly News electronically and you’ll see that we are already saving $164.64 per year. Is this going to make us or break us? No! Will this help us out in the middle of difficult economic times? Absolutely! We fully understand that electronic receipt of our newsletter will not work for all of our members. Some do not have Internet access, and some may have it, but seldom ever use it. If electronic delivery will work for you however, just send a short note to [email protected] and I’ll add you to the list. Why Do We Support Gibault ? The answer to this question is easy! We all know Hoosier Knights founded Gibault in 1921. But did you know Hoosier Knights continue to govern Gibault? Did you know of Gibault’s 20 member Board of Trustees 16 members are Knights of Columbus? Did you know of the 16 Knights on our board we have 4 Past State Deputies, our current State Deputy, Supreme Director Charles Maurer Jr. and our own Financial Secretary John Abel? Did you know according to the Gibault By-Laws, Article XIX, in the event Gibault ceases, terminates or discontinues doing business the assets of Gibault become the property of the Indiana Knights of Columbus? So what does all of this mean? This means Hoosier knights conceived and gave life to Gibault. This means Hoosier Knights govern and direct Gibault. Gibault is not just the number one charity of the Indiana Knights of Columbus….it is a part of the Indiana Knights of Columbus. US Postage Paid Permit No. 214 Bedford IN PO Box 116 Bedford, IN 47421 Phone: 812-275-5677 Editor: Greg Stanley 812-275-6622 [email protected] Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart I give myself and consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ my person and my life, my actions, pains, and sufferings, so that I may be unwilling to make use of any part of my being save to honor, love, and glorify the Sacred Heart. This is my unchanging purpose, namely, to be all His, and to do all things for the love of Him, at the same time renouncing with all my heart whatever is displeasing to Him. We’re on the Web http://www.kofc1166.com I therefore take Thee, O Sacred Heart, to be the only object of my love, the guardian of my life, my assurance of salvation, the remedy of my weakness and inconstancy, the atonement for all the faults of my life, and my sure refuge at the hour of death. Be then, O Heart of goodness, my justification before God Thy Father, and turn away from me the strokes of His righteous anger. O Heart of love, I put all my confidence in Thee for I fear everything from my own wickedness and frailty, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness and bounty.
