TERRAPI"S SPEED A TWST ELITE
Abbie Jones, Dylan
Richard, and first
time elite swimmer
Faith Kitzman hit
fast times at the
TWST Elite meet.
Abbie hit her best in
the 100 and 500 free,
and was 7th in the 100 back. She swam her first mile
as well. Dylan hit best times in the 100 free, 500 free,
and 200
00 IM. He swam a fast first time 400 IM. Faith
Sped to best times in the 100 free, 50 back, free, and
fly events. We now have 6 swimmers with ‘A’ cuts.
Faith, Abbie, and Dylan
ylan have at least 3. Great job keep swimming fast.
BLUE
The Blue team continues to improve their technique
and turns every practice. The head and body position
is better in every stroke. Many of the blue swimmers
did awesome at the Mardi Gras Meet. The group
continues to add new members.
GREE"
Our green TERRORPIS are doing a great job of
tearing through the
water at practice and
the meets. We have
been doing well with
our turns and staying
tight at the wall. I
hope each swimmer
continues to stay tight
and small on the wall and explode off the wall like
the TERRORPIS I know they are!
We have been
working hard on
our body positions
off the wall and
nice tight fast
turns the past
weeks while going
back over proper
body position in
the freestyle. Some swimmers are grasping the idea
faster than others while some off our newer swimmers
know each part and can tell you what to do but have
trouble putting them together just right. We are
always working to see each terrapin swim every
stroke and turn perfectly.
Attendance was a little inconsistent during holiday
season,, but now that we are back on the track and
everyone is back in pool, kicking serious fin as we
near are final meets of the season.
BRO"ZE
The season is coming
close to an end and
the Bronze group has
stepped it up a notch.
You
may
have
noticed
your
swimmers
rs coming home a little bit more tired and
hungrier than normal but that is fine. We have really
started pushing our sprints and sets more so to
prepare for the end of the season. I have been very
happy with how our swimmers have been handling
the push forward.
ward. I look forward to seeing them all at
spring champs to see how much they have
progressed. We have been working hard on getting
our starts and turns to be much quicker. Our strokes
are becoming stronger through all the drills we have
done this year. It should be an exciting spring champs
to watch!
SILVER
Silver swimmers continue to improve in all areas.
They work daily on elite level stroke technique,
speed and endurance. There are now 8 swimmers that
have broken the 30 second barrier in the 50 free. Next
up is the 1:00 in the 100 free. Turns have improved
significantly. Since starts and turns make up to 60%
of a race, it is important that they be done well. The
strategies of races have improved. Swimmers have
worked hard to bring the race back strong.
Becca Taylor, Emi Strautman, Shelly Culver, Amy
Large, Morgan Marshall, and Dylan Richard all
stepped up to the 400 IM. Abbie Jones is now a
miler. Swimmers need to continue to try longer
events for improved endurance in short events.
TERRAPI"S OF THE MO"TH
Green
Audrey Santillio
This little terrapin is not so little
when at the pool; Audrey has really come into her
own here both at practice and at the past few meets.
At the meets Audrey has shown she is a breaststroker
and a good one at that. Starting with the green group
in September Audrey was a bit shy with the coaches,
but has now opened up and not afraid to ask for help
to get a drill done the right way. Her persistence and
open honesty is why she is the January’s Terrapin of
the Month.
Bronze
Cameron Zientek - Cameron came to us from team
YES and has been a wonderful addition to our team.
He is always positive during practice and gives
nothing less than 100% all the time. He is one of two
elite level Bronze group swimmers that want nothing
more than to be friends with all his fellow swimmers.
His swimming capabilities will help all of the
swimmers around him reach the next level of
swimming.
Delaney Crowder - Delaney is a very cheerful
swimmer to have around. Her bright smile has the
ability to spread like wild fire. She is one of those
swimmers that do not understand the word failure.
When she is asked to do something that is beyond her
level of swimming she does everything in her power
to make sure it becomes her new level. Both
Cameron and Delaney have done amazing this year
and I hope they continue on this path of hard work.
Celestrium
Chase Adams has been extremely consistent and a
hard worker since starting in September. He has
improved all his strokes and is one of the top
backstrokes’ on the team.
Silver
Emi Strautman has been extremely consistent with
her attendance the past months, and has taken on new
events with a flare. She is one of the swimmers that
broke the 29 second barrier, and took on the 400 IM
with a bang. She works hard on improving technique
in all stroke will big improvements in push-offs in all
strokes. Keep up the good work!
medals at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships
in Berlin, when she was only 14 years old. She was
ranked #1 in the world in every free event from the
50-800 meters.
At the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan she
received five gold medals. She won the 100 m, 200 m
and 400 m freestyle, as well as being part of the
winning teams at the 4x100 m freestyle relay and
4x100 m medley relay.
Sippy had qualified for six events at the 1980
Summer Olympics in Moscow, and was regarded to
be among the favorites in the four individual
distances, as she was ranked world number one in
100 m, 200 m, 400 m and 800 m freestyle. Due to the
American boycott of Moscow Olympics, she did not
get the chance to participate. This was a great
disappointment for her, and she has said that the
boycott may have triggered her later health problems.
Woodhead competed at the 1984 Olympic Games in
Los Angeles, where she received a silver medal in
200 m freestyle.
She improved the world record in 50 meters freestyle,
long course, 10 April 1980. She improved the world
record in 200 meters freestyle, long course, three
times, in 1978 and 1979; her last result remained a
world record until 1984. She was a member of the
American team that held the world record in 4x100
freestyle relay from 1978 to 1980.
In summary, during her swimming career, Cynthia
"Sippy" Woodhead has set seven world records, six
world best records, twenty-seven American records,
individually or in relays. She was awarded the
American and World Swimmer of the Year in 1979
along with being named the Sullivan Award Runnerup in the same year. She represents the true meaning
of talent, drive and determination not to mention
good, clean fun in swimming. After all, it all goes
hand in hand when you're having fun!
Happy Birthday Sippy Woodhead – February 7
Cynthia (Sippy) Woodhead received
