IFC and Panhellenic Updates
There are some exciting things going on in the Greek Community
This semester started off successfully for the
Greek Community. All organizations are
excited about the new members that they
picked up during recruitment at the beginning
of the semester. With all new members initiated by the end of the semester, their excitement is now centered around what these men
and women can add to their individual chapters as
well as the community at large.
Take a look and see what else the Greek community has been up to!
Recruitment Reports:
The Panhellenic Council is so excited about the success
we had with Formal Recruitment this year. This year
over 80 women came back early from winter break to
participate in this event. Despite the uncooperative
weather, the weekend events started off with a bang, and
after a taxing weekend, over 60 women received bids to
the various organizations.
IFC is also celebrating, as the men were equally successful in their recruitment process as many men came to the
men’s recruitment
events to show their
interest in the organizations.

Anchors away with Delta Gamma
The sisters of Delta Gamma are very
excited for all of the upcoming
events planned for the spring semester. The sisters started the semester
with the highest cumulative grade
point
average
among the
sororities
on campus.
Bid Day
was also a
great success with
the addition of fifteen new members to Delta
Gamma. The sisters would like to
extend congratulations to all the
sororities and fraternities on picking
up great new members.
The sisters of Delta Gamma have
continued the relationship with Summerville Nursing Home. The sisters
made valentine cards that were
distributed at the nursing home.
Delta Gamma will also be participating in Karaoke at the nursing home.
The nursing home community is
looking forward to the sisters returning for such events. There are
various other service opportunities
that are in the planning process.

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity is
continuing to uphold its ideals
and do well across campus,
especially with the culmination of winning all the sorority weeks. During the Greek
Life Awards Banquet, we had
a great showing, winning five
awards. Within the last
month we have raised thirtythree hundred dollars for our
national philanthropy, Push
America, which helps people
with disabilities. This extra
three thousand dollars
secures our position as
number three in the
fund-raising ranking for
national fraternity out of all
our chapters. One of our
brothers, Michael Bankert, is
currently training for the
Journey of Hope, a bike ride
from San Francisco to Washington D.C. to raise money and
awareness for Push America.
The Journey of Hope will take
almost all summer with stops in
different cities to interact with
people that have disabilities,
making the ride even more
rewarding. Also a few brothers
travelled to D.C. to meet
with congressmen about
Greek Life. Additionally, we
had a few successful Alumni
Weekend events, raised
more funds for Push, and plan
to finish out the semester
well.

New projects for Sigma Chi on Elizabeth Campus
A new chapter house, offered up by the college,
means a hopeful chance for the fraternity’s
newest members to live in the extravagant “Sig
House” in the upcoming years. Another notable
activity of Tau chapter includes the trip to
Myrtle Beach for the annual Sweetheart
Weekend, where Christopher Boylan was
granted the worthy role of President. Also,
brother Ian Griffin did commendable work at
the Carolina cup and should be recognized.
Chapter happenings of Alpha Sigma Alpha
Alpha Sigma Alpha, Theta Beta is exceedingly thrilled
for their 16 newest ladybugs! Knowing the exciting,
everlasting bonds of sisterhood, the chapter would
like to extend congratulations to Delta Gamma, Phi
Mu, and Chi Omega and their newest
members. Sisterhood is a beautiful thing!
Pi Kappa Alpha concentrating on Fundraising
With the start of 2011 ringing in a
New Year, the brothers of Pi Kappa
Alpha Phi Chapter were eager to
make their return back to Roanoke’s
Campus. Prior to the start of
Christmas break, Phi Chapter installed
their new executive cabinet. Phi
chapter’s new executive cabinet
features a whole host of different
personalities and ages, lead by
Nathaniel Castellano as president. As
students began to return to campus, the
excitement of formal rush was soon
found amongst the brothers. The brothers were excited to see who would
come out to rush as Phi Chapter prepared to pick up the Phi pledge
class. Phi chapter will be looking to
maintain a positive image with the surrounding Salem community by continuing
an incident free year (largely accredited
to the efforts of Patrick Dibert) and by
giving back to the community through
different community service and fundraising events. Before the end of the semester, brothers are expecting to complete
community service events with both
Habitat for Humanity and Salem Ambassadors. On March 16th in the Colket
Center’s atrium, Pi Kappa Alpha brought
back our fundraiser Date-A-Pike. Brothers this semester will continue to strive
for a high level of academic excellence, an
effort fostered by many of our own
brothers and their unique academic
achievement. Overall we are pushing
harder than ever to maintain our image
as scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen on and off campus; we look forward
to another challenging and prosperous
semester.

What’s new with Kappa Alpha!?!
The spring semester of 2011 has been great to Kappa
Alpha. We recently initiated seven new brothers, who we are excited to call Kappa Alphas. We organized a St. Patty’s Day bachelor auction at Corned Beef and Co. located in
Downtown Roanoke. All the proceeds raised went to the Muscular Dystrophy
Association, our national philanthropy. We have been becoming
more active both on campus here at Roanoke College and also
with our national office, with a member of our brotherhood receiving the position of Province Undergraduate Chairman. We look
forward to the fall semester and the opportunity to improve ourselves and Beta Rho Chapter.
Chi Omega upholds fraternity purposes
The Pi Epsilon Chapter of Chi Omega has been working hard to encourage
each member of our sisterhood to uphold and honor our fraternity's six
purposes- scholarship, personnel, campus activities, career and personal
development, friendship/social relations, and community service. Through
organized study halls, participation in Salem Clean-up Days, intramural
sports and activities, participating in community service outside of the Roanoke College community, and high academic standards, we hope to make
an impact both on campus and in our community. We are also happy to
report another successful year of formal recruitment, and despite the difficulties with inclement weather, we picked up seventeen new girls. We are
very excited to welcome them into our sisterhood and know that they will
be great additions to our strong Chapter!
Delta Sigma Theta Receives

Delta Sigma Theta, a
tri-campus chapter,

Roanoke College,
Washington and Lee
University, and
Hollins University
received three new
sorors (Greek for
sisters!) this
semester.
The three women
represent Roanoke
College and Hollins
University well!
Their names?
Adriana Saucedo
(Roanoke College),
Ashley Ellis-Alleyne
(Hollins University),
and Candace Lewis
(Roanoke College).
These amazing young women were initiated into Delta Sigma Theta on April 9,
2011, and were presented on Roanoke’s
back quad on April 10, 2011 at 3:13pm.
They were greeted by sorors from local
chapters of DST, and presented their line
(terminology for their new initiate class)
via song, chant, and step!
