Part of the Outdoor Classroom Curriculum, they were assisted by many parent volunteers. Our 3rd and 5th graders finished their math MCAS this week. Mr. Thornton’s 4th Grade Physical Education Classes wound up their “Get Fit” season by reaching a total of 6,855 miles! They not only reached their goal to go on the Blue Hills Hike, they surpassed it by hundreds of miles! Well done. Mr. Thornton along with 4th grade teachers Mr. Fraser, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Touhey and Mrs. Williamson continued their Tuesday morning warm-ups this week with a dance-a-long. Here is Mr. Fraser, along with students Kirsten Horlbeck, Colby Connolly, Chloe Rogers and Stephen Sifflard leading the entire 4th grade in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. COLE SCHOOL FIELD DAY, JUNE 8TH The Cole School Field Day for students in grades K-5 will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012! The rain date will be June 15, 2012. Field Day will have an Olympic theme this year. Each class will represent a country that will be participating this summer in London. Classes are encouraged to make a sign with their country’s name and/or flag that will be used as part of the opening ceremonies in the gym. An Olympic torch will be provided to each class. Each class will be asked to travel with the sign of their country and/or flag and Olympic torch as they move among stations. Students will participate with their class, including their classroom teacher, in different cooperative, integrated, fitness and movement learning stations. Students will need to dress appropriately for physical activity that will include running, throwing, catching, dribbling, striking, wellness, aerobic endurance and teamwork. The morning session for students in grades 3-5/AM Kindergarten will be from 9:45-12:35 pm. ( Kindergarten will finish at 11:10) The afternoon session for students in grades 1-2/PM Kindergarten will be from 12:45-2:55 pm. Also each grade level is encouraged to wear a different colored t-shirt. The grade colors will be the following: Kindergarten – white t-shirt 1st Grade – yellow t-shirt 2nd Grade – green t-shirt 3rd Grade – red t-shirt 4th Grade – blue t-shirt 5th Grade – tie dye t-shirt (made with classroom teacher) To make this a successful Field Day event, parent volunteers will be needed to help run the different stations. I will be working with the room parents from each classroom to hopefully secure enough volunteers. Your time and commitment is what makes Field Day a success! Field Day will include a picnic lunch that will be held in the courtyard (1st & 5th graders), outdoor classroom (2nd & 4th graders) or the grassed area next to the teacher parking lot (3rd graders). The picnic menu will be 2 slices of Sal’s Pizza, fruit and vegetables, cookies and milk. Students are also welcome to bring in their own lunch if they do not want pizza. Finally, due to limited parking at the Cole School, I encourage all parents to walk, ride bikes, or carpool.
