Baronial Gatherings
Fighters’ practice is outdoors at Howard Amon Park in Richland Tuesdays & Wednesdays at
6:00pm. Wastekeep fighters plan to travel to Vulcanfeldt for a joint practice on the 4th Wednesday of each
month and do not meet on that Wednesday. Fighters’ Practice includes practice for heavy armored combat,
youth armored combat, and rapier. Non-fighters are encouraged to attend, bring projects to work on, observe
and-or ask/answer questions. We are getting a lot of interested people & families watching combat, looking at
projects, or asking questions about what we are working on. Newcomers and experienced members are always
welcome. For those who would like to keep up to date on what’s going on with practice, send an email to
subscribe to the fighters’ email groups: [email protected] or for rapier
[email protected].
Baronial Council: (Business Meeting) 2nd Thursdays - This monthly event is not in costume and newcomers
are always welcome. It is here that upcoming activities are planned, budgets are discussed, etc. All are welcome
to contribute ideas. The May 14th meeting location is in the meeting room at Sterling's Famous Steak Seafood &
Salad Bar, 890 George Washington Way Richland, WA 99352. Participants for the Baronial Council Meeting
are encouraged to show up at 6:00 (or before) if they would like to order dinner or to socialize prior to the
meeting as to minimize disruptions.

Greetings to All!
I would like to formally invite the populace to my home at 5019
Cambridge Ln Pasco, June 18th from 5 to 9pm, for an evening of
armoring and crafting. Bring your plastic, leather, metal, rattan or any
other projects and we will work together to get your kit assembled. We
will have some experienced armorers available to help/guide you with
your project. If you don't have materials or know what you need, No
problem, come with your ideas or pictures of what you want to make and
just pay for the materials that you use.

Lots of people, both new and experienced have been attending these open shop nights with
the Baron to learn about the SCA, build and/or repair armor, make encampment and garb
accessories, acquire new arts & sciences training/skills, and to enjoy the comradery and
friendship offered by the citizens of the Barony of Wastekeep.
You are welcome to grace us with your presence even if you do not have any projects that
you desire to work on.

Fighting, food, and fun feature at ‘Fest!
Baronial Champion Tournaments for Heavy Fighting, Rapier, Archery, Youth Armored
Combat and Youth Target Archery will be held. Friday will feature the Pandy Bat
Tournament where heavy fighters test their skills with non-traditional weapons for the
entertainment of the masses.
The Spitting Duck Tavern will be open for business from 6-9pm on Saturday, serving
free sausages and soup. Citizens are encouraged to bring desserts and side dishes to
share. All are welcome to bring their own food as well. The Spitting Duck will be
sponsoring a contest to find the best original mustard to complement their sausages.
The winner will be named the Official Mustarder of the Spitting Duck Tavern.
A&S Classes and a Family Activity are being planned. Please keep an eye on the
Kingdom Events Calendar “Springfest” entry for further details to be posted as the event
approaches.
Fees: Adults (18-up) $15 with a NMS fee of $5. Youth/Children Free. Please make
checks payable to: SCA Inc, Barony of Wastekeep. No additional charges for RVs. No
parking fee (must obtain a Dragon Pass at Gate or be ticketed by the Park Ranger.)

spot. In lieu of a merchant's fee, we will graciously accept a donation to Baronial
Largesse.

The Canton of Silverhart would like to invite one and all to our Summer tournament event to select the
2015 Defender of the Hart through challenges of games and combat.
Where: G.O. Phippeny Park aka. 7th street park in Coeur d’Alene!
When: Gate opens at 9:00am we will begin setting up demonstration space at 8:30am.
Site Fee: 7$ there will be a 5$ non member surcharge.
Be courteous of the neighbors as the event is in the heart of the city.
For Parking you will most likely have to drop off gear and then park vehicle and walk back to the Park
itself.
There is a Car Show downtown just 4 blocks from the park which will increase the foot traffic and parking
issues. The benefit of this will be that we can draw in a large number of people that want to look at what
we are doing.
As in years past the overall defender will be chosen from the person who does the best at the
championship events. The more you enter the more chance you have to win. Winner gets a nifty chest full
of goodies as well as the adoration of all.

This year we will be holding a Y.A.C. (Youth Armored Combat) Tournament to select a Champion.
The Canton has decided to set up a series of tents and booths in which we will place all of the aspects of
SCA life and what makes each of us keep coming.
We are looking for people that are willing to demonstrate their skills on the site as well as setup tables to
simply show off.
Examples include Weaving, Dyeing, illumination, Lampwork Beading, Chainmail, Embroidery,
Leatherworking, Armor Making, Woodwork, Blacksmithing.

Following our evening court we would like to welcome everyone to join us for a BBQ potluck which the
Canton will provide the meat.

Old Business
 Greenwood Faire – Mairghread: Two fight demos each day with heavy in the morning and fencing in
the afternoon a signup sheet schedule for the A&S table is being passed around. Full schedule and times
not ready till mid-June.
 Springfest – Stjarna: Ysabella got a message that Chris is no longer the Ranger and someone else is in
charge of the parks. They are not going to honor our contract and want to charge $25 a day for the
building we were planning on using for the Spitting Duck. - Moved and seconded that we rent the
building for three days / passed. Looks like a good turnout per social media. Mairghread: I have a gate
signup sheet I will pass around. Dyon: Going to need serving wenches and bouncers for the Tavern
contact me if interested. Bring your pennies for a table game if you want to play. Other games will be
available. $248 estimate for food. Bring chairs but some will be available along with tables. Thorkell:
one Merchant so far. Stjarna: Classes, dancing, and games are planned.
 Sergents – Thorkell: Aug 8th at the Waitsberg Elementary School Dist. Building. Meghan is feast-o-crat.
4 possible candidates, we need help with testing. Free event with a $5 feast fee, still working on buckles
and medallions.

 Steinbjorn – Thank you for everyone who made it to Honor War. Thank you to Rob & Biggy for
keeping up with the newcomers at events and at practices.
 Katherine – Excited for May Crown and that everyone is so excited about doing things, Ysabella is in
charge of Inlands camping, first come first serve.
Seneschal: Thank you for the officers who sent in their reports! Reminder to event stewards to send in waivers
and gate sheets, it is a legal thing now and must be turned in, even if they are old! Ladies Night Out, a few of
the Ladies have entered into a scavenger hunt at May Crown.
 Family Activities Coordinator -Not present – Ysabella: There will be a marshmallow catapult
children’s activity at Springfest and I will be sponsoring a sugar cube castle contest.
o Dean of Pages: - Tanya: I have had 1 email and some contact from interested parties. The next
page meeting probably @ Springfest.
Exchequer: Thorkell – BofA account is closed. $6413.56 savings $1720.07 checking.
 Chamberlain: NTR
Chronicler: Need to get documents from the Canton to be published in the Word and a reminder that the due
date for the Newsletter is the 20th which is next Wednesday this month.

Herald: If you want help with heraldry let me know, planning on doing consultation at Springfest
Chief Scribe: I would like to get a charter painting class together Wednesday the 27th from 5-8 at my house.
Combat
Heavy/Rapier: Brother William – Fight practices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays now. Tuesdays will switch
back and forth from Walla Walla and Tri-Cities. Vulcanfeldt fighters are not planning on traveling to
Wastekeep in an effort to retain their new local members and do not expect us to cancel our practices to go to
theirs although we are welcome.
YAC: Rashida – Not present - NTR
Archery: Inguz – We are back outside at the Richland Archery Range on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Thursdays 4:30 –
5pm. We have all the loaner gear if you want to try Archery.
Lists: Coisa: NTR
Chatelaine: - Fergus: Lots of new people showing up at practice. I lost all my handouts/flyers due to flooding
damage. Brother William and Marcia are handing out flyers at practice and need more. –Thorgrimr: I will
make more handouts and flyers.
 Grete Book: - Catriona: working on photos of Twelfth Night.
Arts & Sciences: - Stjarna: Planning on starting up dancing classes again, Largesse classes and such. May 30th
during the Inlands Regional Fight practice planning mini-classes such as hand sewing, embroidery, and
embellishing. – Dance practice June 3rd @ 5:30pm before fight practice on Wednesdays at the fingernail in
Howard Amon Park before fight practice, planning on going to the Canton once a month too.

New Business
Ciosa – Gold Key is being re-vamped to fit a larger cross section of people i.e. T-tunics and Belts. If you
donated anything that you would like back please let me know. If you have any items you would like to donate
like inkle loom belts or tunics, please contact me. I will also help teach you how to make a t-tunic if you bring
the fabric and make two, one for you and one for gold key. Steinbjorn: the barony has some belt material and
will just need D-rings.
Canton Business
Thorkell – the Canton’s next meeting/fight practice/is the first Tuesday of the month to coincide with the
traveling fight practice.
August 1st is the BBB which will also be the adult heavy, YAC, and Archery champion tournament. As You
