Society for Creative Anachronism Newsletter for the Barony of Caer Mear Volume 38, Issue 1 The Quid Novi Quid Novi January 2016 Unto the populace of the Valiant Barony of Caer Mear does Wulfgang and Iseulte offer greetings this frigid day in January. During a trip to a neighboring holding last month, We heard murmurings of possible insurgence against our borderlands. Once again, nearby peoples cast jealous eyes towards our outlying farms. The bacon put by to protect our populace from lean times has drawn the attention of our Cousins who wish to add it to their own coffers. Although we do not want to alarm anyone, We urge our tenants to keep a close watch upon their livestock. In other news We are delighted to hear of the Bardic event planned for February. In fact, His Excellency is gleefully planning a delicious board to feed both performers and audience. It is sure to be an entertaining way to brighten the winter months. If you have been loaned a scroll cover to safely transport a bestowed scroll home from an event, we encourage you to return it to Us so that we may offer the same hospitality to others. We could always use more scroll covers. With that said, please contact us with any award recommendations you may have, both for Baronial level and Kingdom/Society level awards. Remember, anyone may recommend anyone else for recognition even if you do not hold that recognition yourself. If you are of an artistic bent, we encourage you to take advantage of the close proximity of Kingdom Arts & Sciences on March 5. We hope that many of you will take the opportunity to both participate, and observe. Speaking of artistic endeavors, We have become aware that the Baronial regalia is showing excessive wear. The silk banner project is being headed up by Lord Ziyod. When the weather permits, you will likely hear more from him on that score. We are currently looking for volunteers to manufacture replacements for the cloth banners used in court, and make cushions for the two sets of chairs currently in use. If you would like to either head up or work on those projects, please contact Her Excellency. With warmest regards, Wolfgang & Iseulte Quid Novi 2 January 2016 Announcements From our Minister of Arts and Sciences: Greetings! Tuesdays are CaerMears A&S Meetings. If you have a period science or craft you'd like to share with the populous or learn more about, send me a message at MoAS AT caermear.atlantia.sca.org or find me on Tuesday Night at Battery Park and we will talk. Yours in Service, Lord Ziyad al'-Atar From Master William Cameron—Regarding CARITAS Greetings all, Once again in January, Battery Park Church will be hosting Caritas starting on Jan 23- 30. For the past several years we have helped them with Caritas, as a small way of giving back for allowing us the use of their facilities for practices, meetings and other activities. For those who are new to the Barony what happens throughout the year local churches take turns housing approx. 35-40 homeless individuals. This year they will be hosting a men’s group. During that time, they provide them with shelter, transportation and meals for a week. What we have done in the past has been to come in and set up the fellowship hall with cots, chairs and tables on Saturday. Then on Tuesday night when we would have normally had gather/practice instead we provide a meal for supper. The cots are scheduled to be delivered on Sat Jan 23rd at 11:00 am. This usually does not take too long, the plan is to get there at 10:30 and we will start getting tables and chairs set up before cots arrive. I will post reminders on Facebook as time gets closer. Lady Kadlin (Debbie deTreville) has graciously volunteer to head up the meal on Tuesday night. She will be needing help, please contact her if you are able to help. There will be a donation jar at practice/gather / A&S on Tuesday night leading up to Caritas for those wishing to donate. Any money that is left over once we pay for the food will be donated to church to help with their cost. If you have any question or are able to help with cot setup or the meal, please contact me, My e-mail address is [email protected].
