The Dredgings – July 2007 Page 3 From the Desk of the Chronicler My Dearest Friends and Fellow Lochmeri, It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Chronicler almost from the moment I set foot in our great Barony. The newsletter has undergone some impressive changes over the course of the past year and a half, most notably by moving to an online format. I know that it will continue to improve and evolve under the diligent care of your new Chronicler, Lord Mikhail Chayka Pavlov-syn Novgorodets. He has exciting plans for the Dredgings, and I will be interested to watch from my new home in the West as his ideas take wing. I say “new home,” but it will not truly be home, for my heart will remain here in Lochmere with her wonderful people. I will miss you all dearly, and I look forward to coming back to visit whenever mundane life allows. And while none of us can say for certain what the future will bring, I believe in the depths of my heart that I will one day be allowed to return for good to this wonderful place and the people who, while far away in distance, will never be far away in thought. I hope you enjoy this, my last issue of the Dredgings, as I take a lighthearted look back at the multitude of memories of the past year and a half and, through photos that are for the most part previously unpublished, share them with you all. Viva Atlantia, and Viva Lochmere! Yours in Service, Lady Shannon inghaen Bhriain ui Dhuilleain Lady Shannon inghaen Bhriain ui Dhuilleain. Photo copyright Shannon Moersch, 2005. Used with permission. The Dredgings – July 2007 Page 4 Meeting Minutes – June 2007 Old Business Baronial Birthday 2007: Despite what is erroneously printed in the Acorn, our event does not conflict with Coronation. The fundraiser lunch is looking good and is expected to cost $5 per person. A list of the items available at the silent auction will be posted prior to the event, and proceeds from the auction will benefit baronial equipment. Autocrat Committee: The committee was not able to meet this month. The first rough draft of the autocrat handbook is together and being reviewed – so far it looks good. The committee will meet again after Pennsic. Pennsic: Preregistration ends on June 15th. You should select 'Lochmere' as the group you wish to camp with, not 'Barony of Lochmere'. Please send your tent measurements to Master Reynard ASAP. Lord Gyles will drive the truck. A loading day and location are yet to be decided. New Business Serving Platters: At Sapphire Joust we purchased fourteen new serving dishes for the barony. The total cost was $293. Midwinter's Revel 2008: Lord Santiago will be the autocrat and Mistress Arianna will mentor him. He has made contact with St. James, but needs to call back because the coordinator wasn't in. The Dredgings – July 2007 Page 5 Officer Reports B&B: Since Night on the Town was such a profitable event, we request that the Barony donates $200 to the Royal travel fund to help offset Their Majesty's expenses for attending. This request was approved by vote of those present. Their Majesties will be requesting guards for Pennsic. If you are interested in serving as a guard, let Their Excellencies know. Her Excellency will be running Troll at the Pennsic Children's Fete, and would appreciate help. Fall Coronation will be in Stierbach. During Curia at University, the following announcements were made: -Both Chatelaines and Webministers were are now Great Officers of State. -Universities and Unevent are now protected events. -April Coronation will be the first weekend of the month unless it is Easter weekend, in which case Coronation will be the second weekend. -Tournament of Chivalry will be the third weekend of April unless it is Easter weekend, in which case it will be the fourth weekend. Tournament of Chivalry is not a protected event. -There is a new fighting award for units, similar to the Shark's Tooth. Exchequer: We made $1700 at Night on the Town, bringing our balance to around $7,500. The donation from Lochmart was $90.50, and the donation from the fundraiser lunch was $532. Jeremy will be stepping down as Padre's deputy at the next meeting. Padre will need a new deputy. Lady Dealla will be a signatory on the account. Chronicler: Lady Shannon will be stepping down after she produces the July issue of the Dredgings. Lord Mikhail will be stepping up at the next meeting. Lady Shannon will submit the July report. Web Minister: Lord Santiago is now a Great Officer of State, and is working on getting the necessary warrant. The web site is up to date, and the forums have new measures in place to keep spammers out. The baronial progress section will now link directly to the forum discussion for each event. Youth Minsiter: NTR Herald: Lady Shannon will be stepping down as deputy at the next business meeting, and Lady Maire will need a new deputy. Lady Saige needs a herald for her event in September. Chatelaine: We had one visiting contact who was unable to attend any events because of work. Lady Christiana has been going through Gold Key – a lot of it is complicated to get into and out of, which is daunting for newcomers. Lady Christiana will be organizing Gold Key sewing days once a month or so to produce simple tunics, pants and shifts. Donations of white muslin and 100% cotton in an array of colors will be greatly appreciated. A&S: Brewing: Brewing day will happen in conjunction with a birthday party for Lord Mikhail's daughter this month, so there will be cake and other sugary goodness around. Lord Mikhail will be bringing six five-gallon kegs to Pennsic. LVMG: We will rehearse until the end of June will all parts at each rehearsal. A&S Night: There will not be an A&S night in July. Chirurgeon: Quarterly reports are due, and several people need to recertify. Recertification can be done at Pennsic. There have been between five and ten archers at practice each week. Come out and shoot! MoL: Artur is working on his training. The next business meeting will be the SECOND Monday of July at the Severna Park Library. August,September and October's meetings will be the first Monday, November's will be the second, and December's will be the first. All of these meetings will be held at the library.
