Die Antwoord follows up 2014's 'Donker Mag' with a new album 'Mount Ninji and Da
Nice Time Kid'. Released on September 16 the album boasts guest appearances by Dita
Von Teese, Jack Black and Lil Tommy Terror, among others.
The duo describe the album variously as "dark and ratty," "a giant supernatural mega

Gong have entered yet another new phase on their four-decades-plus journey with
'Rejoice! I’m Dead!', their brand new studio album. This is the follow up to 2014’s 'I See
You', the last album Daevid Allen was to record with Gong.
Some say it couldn’t, or shouldn’t, be done. How could Gong exist without Daevid Allen? A
few minutes into listening to their brand new album aspersions will be cast aside. New
members and old coalesce. This is undeniably Gong. 'Rejoice! I’m Dead!' is classified as the
band’s 28th album and the Gong legacy is the strongest it has been since 1974.
Every member was key in the development of each new song - Kavus Torabi
(vocals/guitar), formerly of Cardiacs, who joined Gong in 2014 in time for the last album
unaware of the direction his new gig as a guitar player would take, Fabio Golfetti
(guitar/vocals), Dave Sturt (bass/vocals), Ian East (sax/flute) and Cheb Nettles
(drums/vocals) take on the mantle of steering the Teapot further into outer space and the
inner ear. The voice of Daevid Allen features on 2 songs - “Model Village” and “Beatrix”,
and the album also features guests - Steve Hillage playing a guitar solo on “Rejoice!” and
Didier Malherbe’s duduk can be heard on “Model Village” and “Through Restless Seas I
Come”.
'Rejoice! I'm Dead!' was recorded in London in the Spring of 2016 at Brixton Hill Studios,
engineered by Nick Howiantz and Gong, mixed by Mark Cawthra (Infallible Ear) and Dave
Sturt (Swimming Head).
The band will soon announce touring plans for Autumn 2016 and Spring 2017 in support of
their new release.

Unsongs is a remarkable collection of songs that have, at one stage, been banned, censored
or silenced. The attempts to suppress them were as mild as an airplay
ban and as brutal as murder. With great sensitivity and imagination,
Norwegian singer-songwriter Moddi has given them new life and created a
moving and eye-opening album.
Pål Moddi Knutsen, a 29-year-old from northern Norway, was an activist before he was a
songwriter. As a member of Socialist Youth and Young Friends of the Earth, he realised that the
songs they sang were decades old. “Beautiful songs but they don’t correspond to the reality we
live in now,” he says. “That’s basically why I started writing music.” This impetus eventually led
to his acclaimed 2010 debut album Floriography, hailed by Q magazine as “a heart-warming
and beautifully constructed piece of melancholic folk-pop”.
In January 2014, after two more albums, Moddi cancelled a concert in Tel Aviv in protest of
Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories. On his website, he wrote “silence can sometimes
be stronger than music”. After the cancellation, Norwegian singer Birgitte Grimstad contacted
Moddi to tell him about Eli Geva, a song about an Israeli officer who refused to lead his forces
into Beirut during the Lebanon War in 1982. Geva became an icon of the peace movement, but
also a reviled man among those who supported the war.
Fired with inspiration, Moddi made his own version of Eli Geva. When he performed the song,
he noticed that it called forth strong emotions within the audience. From a list of more than
400 songs, Moddi decided to translate and rework 12 for the album. The only rule was that the
element of the song which caused it to be suppressed had to remain intact, even when
translated into English and with a different arrangement and melody. With the famous
Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s Oh My Father I Am Joseph, for example, he changed
almost everything except the Quran-quoting chorus, which caused it to be banned in many
Arab countries. Pussy Riot’s Punk Prayer, which led to a show trial and imprisonment for the
Russian feminist activists, is stripped of noise and returned to its melodic roots in
Rachmaninov’s Ave Maria, but the lyrics are no less subversive.
The stories on Unsongs span continents and centuries. They are as recent as Punk Prayer and
as ancient as The Shaman and the Thief, a 19th century folk song from Norway’s aggressively
assimilated indigenous Sami culture, performed here with the celebrated Sami singer Mari
Boyne.
Some songs, such as Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit and Kate Bush’s Army Dreamers, became
well known despite initial resistance. Others had dire consequences for the writers and
performers. Vit Khang (Where is my Vietnam?) was imprisoned for anti-state propaganda.
Algerian rebel and democracy campaigner Lounès Matoub (Open Letter) was assassinated by
masked men for his criticism of the government. Most famously perhaps, the Chilean folk
singer Victor Jara was executed during the 1973 military coup that toppled socialist president
Salvador Allende.
For Moddi, Unsongs will have succeeded if the album encourages listeners to learn more, and
think more, about the different ways in which important messages are prevented from finding
an audience. In this way, Unsongs contains both stories from the past and lessons for the
future.

Twenty-plus years after their last reverb trail dissipated, the remains of Shadowy Men
on a Shadowy Planet have reconstituted. The Men were first reanimated in 2012 and
have been semi-active since, revealing a stature and distinct influence that has only
grown since their original incarnation.
Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet existed originally between 1984 and 1995, and
released three albums and twelve singles, appeared on numerous compilations (including
the formative "It Came From Canada" series), toured extensively throughout North
America and England, were one of the first Canadian bands to record a Peel Session for
BBC DJ John Peel, beat David Foster out of one of the two Juno's they were nominated
for, backed B-52's vocalist Fred Schneider on his "Just Fred" album, and scored a couple of
feature films and the television series Kids in the Hall.
Recent years have seen them named as finalists in Toronto''s daily newspaper, as the Best
Toronto Band Ever, and be indicted into the mysterious Independent Music Hall of Fame,
for being "true Independent pioneers". After years of being out-of-print and for the very
first time as digital downloads— Yep Roc Records is releasing the original three Shadowy
Men on a Shadowy Planet albums, - Savvy Show Stoppers, Dim The Lights, Chill The Ham,
and Sport Fishin' - in deluxe gatefold sleeves, with expanded artwork, liner notes by Bon
Von Wheelie, Bry Webb and Scott McCaughey, and contextual essays by band associates
and a chihuahua.
Translated from Latin and remastered from first generation tapes by Grammy Award
winning engineer Peter J. Moore. Founding members Brian Connelly (guitar) and Don Pyle
(drums) are joined by extended family member Dallas Good, of The Sadies, playing bass
guitar for the foreseeable future, with select tour dates throughout 2016. Shadowy Men
bass player Reid Diamond died in 2001 after a battle with cancer, so it is an honour to
have long-time friend Dallas playing his parts.

Kscope will be releasing a 12" clear vinyl, 4 track EP from TesseracT on 16th September,
entitled 'Errai'. 'Errai' features four re-worked tracks from the band's critically acclaimed
2015 studio album 'Polaris' – "Survival", "Cages", "Tourniquet" and "Seven Names". The
tracks have been re-imagined by the band's long time live producer and sound engineer
Aidan O'Brien.
TesseracT vocalist Dan Tompkins comments "It's been fantastic to re-visit & re-work the
vocals to some of the Polaris tracks from a different angle and with the benefit of time and
space. The normal process of writing TesseracT songs starts with the creation of the music
followed by the lyrical content; this time Acle and Aidan have stripped away the music and
re-created the songs based around the vocals. As a result this has allowed much more

CD Release Of Highly Sought After 'Ingladaloneness' Ep From Dalis Car Featuring Peter
Murphy (Bauhaus) & Mick Karn (Japan).
Dalis Car, formed in 1984 by Bauhaus' Peter Murphy (vocalist), Japan's Mick Karn (bassist,
keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist) and Paul Vincent Lawford (rhythm construction).
Initially, they recorded one album, 'The Waking Hour' in 1984.
In August 2010, Peter Murphy announced that he and Karn were planning on re-forming
Dalis Car to record a second album, the project was cut short, as Karn had recently been
diagnosed with cancer and passed away in the following January. The tracks they did
record in that brief reunion included a re-working of 'Artemis' from 'The Waking Hour'
with newly added vocals, guitar, and drums, and renamed 'Artemis Rise'; and were
released in April 2012 as an EP entitled InGladAloneness.
The EP begins with the life-affirming 'King Cloud' and 'Sound Cloud' driven by Karn's dense
and compelling bass and bassoon patterns and Murphy's singular voice, the songs contain
lyrics that emotionally echo Murphy's response to Karn's condition and suggest musical
directions the project might have pursued had it continued as a creative concern.
Along with the inventively multi-layered re-imagining of 'Artemis', these pieces operate as
the rhythmically propelled spiritual storm before the glacial calm of the two closing
numbers. The Arvo Part meets Turkish chant lament of 'Subhanallah' and - prefaced by a
mournful Karn instrumental - the deeply personal reading of Jaques Brel's classic 'If You
Go Away' (a favourite song of Karn's), provide a moving conclusion to a poignant final
statement. The EP also features Karn's Japan bandmate Steve Jansen on drums and
original Dalis Car drummer Paul Lawford on congas; and was mixed by Steve Jansen,
mastered by Pieter Snaper in Istanbul, with artwork created by Murphy, Thomas Bak with
a painting by Jaroslaw Kukowski.
Kscope are re-releasing this highly sought after EP on CD with original cover artwork and
will be presented in a digipack sleeve.

The second album of music by Mathias H. Tjønn as Racing Heart, "What Comes After" is a political record
trying to be personal rather than preachy. Produced by Hanne Hukkelberg (a renowned artist in her own
right), the album is a stark departure from Racing Heart's debut record in both style and substance.
Instead of looking inwards, we look outwards. Instead of being folk-based, we aim to meld acoustic
instruments and synthesized sounds. This album has sharp edges. Genre-wise, "What Comes After" is an
experimental pop album, inspired by musicians such as David Sylvian, Winston Tong and John Foxx. Aided
greatly by the creativity of musician Jenny Hval who contributes both lyrics and vocals, the songs are
propelled by the drums and programming of Martin Langlie (Susanne Sundfør, Pantha du Prince, Valkyrien

Experimental pop band Aquaserge has been a subterranean driving force in the
international music scene for the last few years, inspiring and influencing countless
musicians. The band's debut release on Crammed Discs the Guerre EP in September

Formed in south-western France, the band has moved around, some of its members
also becoming part of Tame Impala, Stereolab and Melody's Echo Chamber, as well as

First formed in Sydney in the mid 1980s, The Cannanes are one of the most celebrated
underground bands of the Antipodes, with a book, a documentary and even a pair of limited
edition Converse sneakers devoted to them. Over their 30 year career they have amassed 11
albums and innumerable singles on labels all around the world, and have toured the US, UK,
Mexico, Japan and Europe repeatedly.
A Love Affair With Nature holds a special place in The Cannanes' canon. After a series of early
lineup shuffles, the band condensed into their classic core trio - drummer David Nichols, guitarist
Stephen O'Neil and heartbreaking vocalist Fran Gibson. Each contributes songs that veer
between insightful and absurd, conveying a 20-something inner-city existence that feels
simultaneously fleeting and universal.
Initially self-released on coloured vinyl by the band, Love Affair was subsequently licensed by
Chicago label Feel Good All Over (The Magnetic Fields, Dead C), with a CD version a few years
later on another classic Chicago imprint, Ajax Records (Mountain Goats, David Kilgour). They
began touring the US and UK regularly, becoming one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands (as
mentioned in his diaries) and had further releases on quintessentially 90s labels such as K
Records, Harriet and Little Teddy.

After a lineup change and the addition of Dean Smitten (guitar) in September last year, Doe
finally got to work writing material with an album in mind. In March, armed with 10 new songs
and bags full of snacks, they ventured to Greenmount Studios in Leeds with producer Matthew

Some Things’ still comprises all the elements with which current listeners will be familiar. Dueling
girl- boy vocals sit atop crunchy intertwining guitars and thundering drums, lyrical themes dart

John Coltrane died at age 40, and in retrospect it seems as if the intensity of activity in his last
years, the sheer torrent of notes, was an attempt at purging the music from his soul before it
was too late. The guitarist Jack Rose died at 38, in 2009, and listening back to his catalogue one
has a similar notion.
Like Coltrane, Jack Rose's last years were marked by a shimmering intensity, an outpouring of his
spirit, onto audiences and records. With his virtuoso finger-style technique and restless guitar
explorations - modal epics, bottleneck laments, uptempo rags - it's easy to hear a connection to
tradition and at the same time a pulsing modernism: "Ancient to the Future" in the words of
Chicago's Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians. Jack Rose's work exists along

The album known as Self-Titled was originally released in 2006 on the arCHIVE label, and later
reissued as a CD two-fer with Dr. Ragtime and His Pals. It contains a combination of studio and
live recordings. Self-Titled is marked by a sense of forward momentum, the result of several
years of constant playing, with fresh versions of a number of previously attempted songs.
Blind Willie Johnson's spiritual "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground" is manipulated into a
wailing slide guitar lament. "Levee" pops like a warning. "St. Louis Blues" (in this and it's several
other incarnations across his entire catalogue) is a good example of Jack''s innate sense of swing,
a crucial characteristic of his playing perhaps lost on some of his finger-picking followers. The
centerpiece of the album, however, is the nearly sidelong "Spirits in the House," which begins

The members of Parsonsfield knew it would not be easy, but they relished the
challenge of converting an old axe factory on the banks of the Farmington River in
Connecticut into the studio where they would record their stirring new album Blooming Through The
Black. The band recruited producer Sam Kassirer to help them convert the cavernous space into a
working studio.
The result is an album that finds the band deftly moving between driving anthems and quieter, more
reflective tracks. And throughout Blooming Through The Black, the band continues to hone their
unbelievable harmonies. It opens with “Stronger,” a slow-burner that begins as an acoustic folk number
and builds to an electrified tumult. It’s a showcase for their instrumental prowess, lyrical chops, and

Noura Mint Seymali hails from a Moorish musical dynasty in Mauritania, born into a
prominent family of griot and choosing from an early age to embrace the artform that is
its lifeblood. Yet traditional pedigree has proven but a stepping-stone for the work
Noura and her band have embarked upon in recent years, simultaneously popularizing
and reimagining Moorish music on the global stage, taking her family's legacy to new
heights as arguably Mauritania's most widely exported musical act of all time.
Arbina is Noura Mint Seymali's second international release. Delving deeper into the
wellspring of Moorish roots, as is after all the tried and true way of the griot, the album
strengthens her core sound, applying a cohesive aesthetic approach to the
reinterpretation of Moorish tradition in contemporary context. The band is heard here in
full relief; soaring vocals and guitar at the forefront, the mesmerizing sparkle of the ardine,
elemental bass lines and propulsive rhythms swirling together to conjure a 360 degree
vibe. Arbina refines a sound that the band has gradually intensified over years of touring,
aiming to posit a new genre from Mauritania, distinct unto itself; music of the "Azawan."
Supported by guitarist, husband and fellow griot, Jeiche Ould Chighaly, Seymali's
tempestuous voice is answered with electrified counterpoint, his quarter-tone rich guitar
phraseology flashing out lightning bolt ideas. Heir to the same music culture as Noura,
Jeiche intimates the tidinit's (Moorish lute) leading role under the wedding khaima with
the gusto of a rock guitar hero. Bassist Ousmane Touré, who has innovated a singular
style of Moorish low-end groove over the course of many years, can be heard on this
album with greater force and vigor than ever before. Drummer/producer Matthew Tinari
drives the ensemble forward with the agility and precision need to make the beats cut.
Many of the songs on Arbina call out to the divine, asking for grace and protection.
"Arbina" is a name for God. The album carries a message about reaching beyond oneself
to an infinite spiritual source, while learning to take the finite human actions to necessary
to affect reality on earth. The concept of sëbeu, or that which a human can do to take
positive action on their destiny, is animated throughout.

In anticipation of the forthcoming Kenya Special: Selected East African Recordings from the
1970s and '80s compilation, Soundway release a special remix and edit 12" featuring two tracks
from the collection and two exclusives.
The A side kicks off with Batida's remix of a 1977 benga 45 (Ndiri Ndanogio Niwe) from the Mbiri
Young Stars. Fast 120bpm plus 4/4 rhythms with liquid guitars and machine-gun drumming are
married with kuduro drum programming. Second up and surging with sub bass, British production
duo The Busy Twist inject The Kalambya Boys' Kivelenge (also from 1977) with a slice of London
club culture. Many late 70s Kenyan benga 45s were cut loud and heavy with often ludicrous
amounts of low end squeezed onto sides that technically shouldn’t have exceeded three-and-ahalf mins but frequently topped five. Perfect fodder for remixes these cuts were way ahead of
their time production-wise and sound even more amazing considering the limited equipment
Kenyan engineers had at their disposal in the late '70s.
On the flip Sofrito's Frankie Francis subtly tweaks a sublime Nairobi Matata Jazz track from the
mid '70s: focusing on the wobbly guitar lines and letting the blaring horns speak for themselves.
Consisting of both Kenyan and Congolese musicians Nairobi Matata Jazz were a perfect example
of how rumba from Congo (which consumed East Africa in the 1970s) was blended with rat-a-tattat benga style Kenyan drum patterns and Swahili language vocals. These same rhythms are in full
effect on the last track by the Gatanga Boys Band, edited and chopped up by Hide and Smile
(Frankie Francis and Miles Cleret) - super fast instrumental benga guitar and drum interplay,
heavy on the cymbals and dynamite on the floor.

Susso, aka bassist / producer Huw Bennett, creates music inspired by, and directly sampling,
the magnificent sounds of the Mandinka people, recorded during a recent trip to Gambia.
Initially travelling with the aim of gaining perspective as a musician and to discover a new world
of music first hand, Huw found himself humbled by such a welcoming community of artists,
mostly belonging to the celebrated Suso and Kuyateh griot families.
The tracks are composed entirely from original source material, field recordings and Huw's talents

Morna is the national music in the hearts of the people of Cape Verde. It resembles
Portuguese fado, but it is not the Creole version of that genre, which was looked on
with scorn by the Portuguese colonists. Morna probably comes from lament, a style of
singing brought from Angola by slaves. Its accents are rough and heart-rending.
Etymologically, the word “morna” may come from the English verb “to mourn”, but its
origin is obscure. Sailors probably developed its final form. Indeed, apart from Angolan
chanting, it holds suggestions of Argentinian tango and Brazilian modinha.

Multi award winning contemporary folk duo Jackie Oates and Megan Henwood meld
together their love of storytelling, songwriting and melody with their voices and acoustic

With 22 years of musical partnership gathering numerous nominations, awards and critical
acclaim along the way, While and Matthews reaffirm their place as one of the finest duos in
acoustic music with the release of their tenth studio album.
Shoulder to Shoulder introduces eleven brand-new songs to the already mighty arsenal of
material that positions them as go-to writers for projects such as the acclaimed BBC Radio Ballads
and Ballads of Child Migration. Their songs cover diverse topics and bridge musical genres,
making them difficult to pigeonhole, but after years of drawing on many influences and
experiences they have acquired a sound all of their own and are, as the opening track testifies,
comfortable in the skin they are in.
As well as the upbeat radio friendly Here It Comes Again and the powerful ballad Ordinary Day (a
breathtaking interpretation from While's lead vocal), Matthews, as we have come to expect, also
offers two powerful songs of political comment. Pride, a calling for solidarity in support of LGBT
rights across the globe and Are We Human, an answer to the intolerance and ignorance facing
refugees fleeing to Europe. While's recent co-writing partnership with acclaimed songwriter
Charlie Dore brings a new dimension to the album with three songs.
As usual, W&M are supported by a full cast of world-class musicians. On bass, Neil Fairclough
(Queen, E2K); drums, Neil Marshall (Albion Band); new addition Johnny Heyes on electric and
acoustic guitars; Danny Hart (Flats and Sharps) on fiddle and banjo. With guests: guitarist Ken

Charismatic English folk singer Hannah Sanders follows up her acclaimed debut 'Charms Against
Sorrow' with an exquisite album of duets with dobro player, guitarist and singer Ben Savage
(The Willows), recorded in Toronto with award-winning producer David Travers-Smith (Wailin
Jennys, Pharis & Jason Romero, Madison Violet).
Recorded in duet over 10 days just as Ontario's winter snows gave way to spring sunshine, the
album shares a moment and mood with the listener in a way that so few modern records are
able. The pair move seamlessly between traditional, self-penned and cover songs; delicately
exploring life, love, grief and death through a musical journey that feels perfectly of-a-piece.
There is an almost musical soul-mate quality to the support Savage's singing and playing adds to
Sanders' stunningly beautiful vocals, guitar and dulcimer work. Travers-Smith frames their special
musical rapport within a delicately crafted soundscape reminiscent of his work with Ruth Moody,
but with a clarity and intimacy one might more readily associate with Gillian Welch & Dave
Rawlings.

identity - apt for an album reflecting the band's new six piece line-up and, coincidentally,
Allan Yn Y Fan's sixth record.
"NEWiD" in its twelve tracks demonstrates an evolved, more refined and mature sound for Allan
Yn Y Fan. The album features a mix of original compositions and the band's arrangements of more
gems from the storehouse of Welsh traditional music and song.

Tracks include Kate Strudwick's hauntingly beautiful "Tune for Lilian" commemorating a surprise
bequest; Chris Jones' jaunty and nimble "Bishop of Llandaff's & Frank Hennessy's Kairdiff
Quicksteps" and some terrific traditional tunes including "Dwr Glan", "Pibddawns Y Mwnci" and
"Sbaen Wenddydd."
The songs include some well know from the tradition such as the spell-binding rendition that
Catrin O'Neill gives "Dafydd Y Garreg Wen" a capella, whilst there is the first recording of a mid
19th century protest ballad collected in Beaufort, Ebbw Vale and entitled "Gorthrwm y
Gweithiwr" (Oppression of the workers). The song issues some dire warnings to 19th century iron
masters! "NEWiD" is respectfully dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Meredydd Evans - in
part because Catrin learned some of these songs directly from him or his wife Phyllis Kinney.
Allan Yn Y Fan will be touring in support of the album from September onwards to mark not just
the release of the album but also the 20th anniversary of the founding of the band.

Two time Juno award winner Jenny Whiteley's new recording. "The Original Jenny

his U.S. debut appearance at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall in 2014, where he amazed
the audience with his musicality, followed by appearances before the Jazz Foundation of
America at the Apollo and the Arthur Ashe Learning Center at Gotham Hall.
His 2015 debut album for Motema Music, ‘My Favorite Things’, garnered two Grammy
Award nominations for "Best Jazz Instrumental Album" and "Best Improvised Solo" for his
performance of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps", making him the youngest jazz artist ever
nominated for a Grammy.

Drummer Bobby Kapp and pianist Matthew Shipp are a team that has only recently come
together, though their affinity for one another is natural and rewarding. Cactus is their first duo
recording, a spontaneous set coming on the heels of 2015’s Themes 4 Transmutation, the latter
waxed under the drummer’s leadership and featuring Shipp.
On Cactus, nine spiny and flowering dialogic arms are presented in gorgeous sound, creating a
language that stems from bebop, free improvisation and classicism but are of the present and
specific to these two musicians.
While the cognoscenti may be aware of Kapp'’s name as a firebrand in the mid-60s New York free
music underground, he didn’'t record as a leader back then. Kapp’'s restless energy and
streetwise lyricism, yen for the blues and supple templates for unfettered expression took him
from New Jersey and Staten Island to Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Alan
Dawson, and then Lower Manhattan. There, he played and recorded with alto saxophonists
Marion Brown and Noah Howard, pianist Dave Burrell and tenor saxophonists Leandro ‘Gato’
Barbieri and Pharaoh Sanders before eventually settling in an artist’s colony in San Miguel de
Allende.
Shipp's piano is the perfect foil for Kapp'’s dryly doled-out metric inventions, his sinewy but
factual movements through erudite melody, resonant stomps and granular sideways gestures
creating fields and objects through which the drummer’s open, supple brushwork and woody rolls
float, undercut and weave. Shipp has worked with a wide range of individual, creative
drummers—including Newman Taylor Baker, Whit Dickey, Guillermo E. Brown, Susie Ibarra,
Marc Edwards and Steve McCall—and says of Kapp that “Bobby is a marvel as he combines the
best of old school drumming with a real feel for pulse and breaking the circle that exists in the
avant-garde. However, he can open the beat up in a way where you can flow with the wave and
never lose the line. His touch is really refined and that adds to the beauty of his sound.”

While a patriarch of the smooth jazz genre, Saxophonist Richard Elliot is also at home
with rock & roll and classic R&B that he performed as a member of Tower of Power.
He celebrates these funk and R&B roots on ‘Summer Madness’, which sees him joins
forces with trumpeter Rick Braun.
When Elliot began preparing ‘Summer Madness’, he knew exactly what he wanted to
do. First and foremost, it had to be funky. “When I was growing up in the ’70s and first
learning to play the saxophone,” he says, “I was mostly attracted to instrumentally
based R&B and to jazz that had R&B roots. This record definitely goes down that path,
leaning more on the funk side.”
The cast includes two other horn men augmenting Elliot’s signature sax work:
trumpeter/trombonist Rick Braun, who also produced the album and, on several tracks,

'How Near How Far' is bassist Etienne Mbappé's fourth solo recording. While his previous three

It also marks the debut of his new band the Prophets - consisting of Mbappé alongside

Allman has walked many roads to earn his place at the head of the Southern rock scene.

Writing all but two of the songs – either alone or in partnership with his compadres – Allman

"Galaxies", he invests blues-rock traditions with modern attitude and smarts. "Blues was born
down South," he says, "and it's a massive part of the culture. But blues is a very open entity in my

from a man with a famously sprawling vinyl collection – and a tattoo of Curtis Mayfield inked on
his left bicep – there are nods here to every genre and era. "This album is really about mixing all

about making an artistic statement, not about fitting into any category. I produced this album to
be an eargasm of emotion."

works by the eighteenth-century composer Joseph Haydn. A super-star group of musicians with

The Haydn Album features three of Haydn's best-loved compositions. The album opens with the
