Junior Prizegiving at 11.00am
It is time to focus on getting our students through final exams
and assessments to ensure everyone reaches their goals and
fulfills their potential. It is time to ‘get the job done’.
Often students studying for the exams decide not to attempt
certain external papers thinking they have sufficient credits to
progress without them only to find that these elements are
required at University or Level 2 and 3 courses. The notion of
avoiding needs to be set aside and students encouraged to
study for, and attempt, the whole course. Your endorsement
of this at home would be much appreciated.
Many staff are offering tutorials after school and weekends.
Please encourage your son/daughter to take full advantage of
these opportunities.
The junior school also has a busy program. Junior assessment
week starts on 12 November. Thanks to all parents for a great
turn out at the parent/teacher interview night at the end of last
term. Please do not hesitate to contact the relevant teacher,
dean or myself if you have any further concerns. We will
need to ensure we are all pulling together to ensure we
maximize learning benefits for 2012.

READER/WRITERS
The College has a number of students
requiring reader/writers for the Junior
Exams on Monday, 12th November through
to Friday 16th November. This is an unpaid
position, but vital for some students to access the exam
system. With reader/writer support it allows a student to
show their true potential. Most exams will go from 9:00 to
11:00 or 1:00 to 3:00.
If you can help please email Kathleen O’Kane at
kokane@kavanagh. school.nz.
Kavanagh Parent and Friend Association Raffle
Raffle cards and money are due back tomorrow, Friday
19 October. Any unsold cards should also be returned
to the Bursar. Thank you.
A full list of Tutorials available for

TEST ANXIETY
Too much anxiety about a test is commonly referred to as test anxiety. It is perfectly natural to
feel some anxiety when preparing for, and taking, a test. In fact, a little anxiety can jump start
your studying and keep you motivated. However, too much can interfere with your studying. Here are
some things you can do before, during and after a test to reduce your test anxiety ►
►
►
Maintain a positive attitude as you study. Think about doing well, not failing. Think of the
test as an opportunity to show how much you have learned.
Go into the test well rested and well fed. Get enough sleep the night before the test. Eat a light and nutritious
meal before the test. Stay away from junk foods.
Stay relaxed during the test. Taking slow, deep breaths can help. Focus on positive self-statements such as “I
can do this”.
Follow a plan for taking the test. Don’t panic even if you find the test difficult. Stay with your plan.
►
Don’t worry about other students finishing the test before you do. Take the time that you need to do your
►
best.
►
Once you finish the test and hand it in, forget about it. Turn your attention and effort to your next test.
