God of every people and nation,
we confess that we have not lived as global citizens
in your new realm of justice and peace.
We build up dividing walls in the world.
We contribute to division in the church.
We ignore the suffering in distant nations
and live in fear of our closest neighbors.
Forgive us, God of grace.
Pour out your Spirit of peace upon us,

THE LORD’S SUPPER, LORD’S PRAYER AND PRAYER STATIONS
We welcome everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to share in this meal. This
morning, we serve by Intinction. Please come forward by the center aisle, take a piece of bread, dip
it in the cup and eat. Return to your place via the side aisles. If you are more comfortable to remain
where you are, we will gladly bring the bread and cup to you. For those who desire it, you will find
gluten-free bread on the table.
Prayer Stations: On your way back to your seat, please take a moment to pause at the windows
along the side aisle, contemplating how God might be pulling you out to help feed the hungry of
this world whether in body or spirit.

FROM MY HEART TO YOURS
It is difficult to find the words to say thank you for the wonderful celebration of the tenth anniversary
of my ordination. I can say I have never been more surprised in my life! I feel so blessed, so honored
and so humbled by your care and encouragement to me, and so very privileged to be your pastor.
Thank you very much for the wonderful painting by He Qi. It now hangs in the entrance to my home,
always reminding me, coming and going, of my baptism in Christ and my call to serve you in His name.
The prayer of recommitment during worship was a blessed opportunity to recommit myself to this
ministry with you. I look forward to all that our journey together will hold! May the blessings of
abundant joy and gratitude continue to pour upon us, and through us, to touch others as we strive
together to live the love of Jesus Christ!

FLU SHOTS AT NORTHBROOK—TODAY
Flu shots will be offered at Northbrook today from 9:30-12:00 and are covered by most insurances or
will cost $33.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18
Please join us on Sunday, October 18 for a Congregational Meeting immediately following worship.
This meeting is being held for the purpose of electing officers and to vote on the following bylaw
change. Currently, the by-laws of Northbrook provide for a session that consists of three 3-year classes
of 6 members each for a total of 18 members. At a recent session meeting, a motion was made and
approved that the session be reconfigured for a total of 9 members, made up of three 3-year classes of
3 members each. The rationale behind this decision is that given the smaller size of our congregation,
downsizing our session correspondingly will free up the energies of the members of Northbrook to
more fully participate in all the ministries and missions of the church. If you have any questions or
concerns about this proposed change, please contact Rev. Marjorie Wilhelmi or any member on the
session to discuss it.

LOGOS has started and takes place on Wednesdays for all K-12 students. Please contact Ken Stetson

Macy's and Barb Stetson are walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk sponsored by the
American Cancer Society on Saturday, October 10 at 9 a.m. at Hart Plaza in Detroit. Please go to

GETTING YOUR AFFAIRS IN ORDER: THE GOOD FUNERAL SERVICE - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25
We are continuing our series on Getting Your Affairs in Order with The Good Funeral Service. Please join
us on Sunday, October 25 from 11:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. as Rev. Marjorie Wilhelmi guides you through
planning your own funeral or memorial service from a faithful and theological perspective. It is healthy
and helpful, at some point, to consider your own death, to think how you want your time on earth to
come to closure and how you might alleviate some of the difficult decision-making your loved ones will
face eventually. During this seminar, you will have an opportunity to plan some of those details now and
to discuss a variety of choices that must be made when you die regarding your funeral and burial. All are
welcome.

PRESBYTERY OF DETROIT HANDS-ON-MISSION ANNUAL BREAKFAST AND WORKSHOP
The Presbytery of Detroit Hands-on Mission Annual Mission Breakfast and Workshop will be held on
Saturday, October 10 (8:00 a.m. - Noon) at Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church at 2441 Pinecrest
Drive in Ferndale. This is an opportunity to hear from PCUSA Mission Co-workers who are connected
with work in the Philippines, Costa Rica and Thailand and to learn about area churches', including
Northbrook, current and potential roles in local, national, and global mission. Breakfast will be served
at 8:00 a.m. and costs $10 per person. Registration is online at www.hands-on-mission.org or you may

Join us in praying for an end to hunger. Specifically, we pray for…
… hungry people in our own country and abroad who struggle to get enough to eat and to
put food on their tables. They work so hard—against great odds—to feed their families.
May God grant them strength and hope.
… our nation’s decision makers in Congress and the administration. They have the power to
change the policies and conditions that allow hunger to persist. May God grant them
wisdom and compassion.
… churches and organizations that work for justice and mercy in the world. They provide
both immediate help and long-term support to enable people to move out of poverty and
feed their families. May God grant them a spirit of compassion and courage as they work for
the common good.
… ourselves. With our votes and our voices, we can influence our elected officials to adopt
measures that will lead to an end to hunger. May God grant us persistence and passion in
this work.
