I am very impressed with the quality you have. The majority of the dogs had very good confirmation and were very balanced. I did not find a single dog lacking in pigmentation. The flowing top line in most of the dogs from head to tail is very impressing. They have good bone and good bend of stifle. Most of the coats were gleaming. The movements are extremely good. When I think about the dogs I saw over the two days I know that your quality can easy compete with the best dogs I have seen in Europe. I was very pleased to see from the catalogue that many of my major award winners were related with many being progeny of my Best in Show Winner. This is a new avenue of competition for Gundogs, commencing in January 2011, and is based on the old Gundog Working Tests. Our Judges were Day 1 – Novice – Ms Kirsty Gray (NSW) Open - Ms Viv Jones (NSW) Day 2 – Novice – Ms Viv Jones (NSW) Open - Ms Kirsty Gray (NSW) There were 11 entries in Novice and 1 entry in Open. As this is a new title, there are not many Gundogs qualified to participate in Open. Despite some handlers being in other rings, (Obedience and Breed) everything ran very smoothly. The dogs had a great time, doing what they are bred to do, albeit in a simpler version. A couple of them found delightful smells that they could not resist, and had lots of fun rolling around in them. It is amazing how dogs suddenly become deaf when they don’t want to hear. !!! Prizes were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd each day, plus a Winner of Winners on each day. Day 1 Winner of Winners was Marion Outteridge with Morgan (Kellyvix Gold Buccaneer CDX). Day 2 Winner of Winners was Jan Dixon & Louise Patterson with Yogi (Obedience Champion Euraidd One Night Stand CCD UD). Overall Winner of Winners over the 2 days was Marion and Morgan, with Jan and Yogi gaining runner up. It didn’t help in the run off, that Yogi managed to find one of those smells. No he didn’t roll in it, but it did distract him enough to lose points. I believe one of our NSW triallers gained her 3rd qualification at the National, giving her a NRA title. Congratulations Maureen McDonald and Ch Yellowfetch Mr Sandman UD. There are more opportunities in NSW for Goldens to compete in Retrieving Ability Tests, so there are a few in NSW who have already gained that title. However, here in Qld, there have only been 2 Retrieving Ability Tests this year, apart from the 2 at the National, with only 1 more to come. That gave Goldens a distinct advantage in gaining a NRA in Qld this year. So it was a little disappointing that Queenslanders were outnumbered in the entries. However, I was delighted to get qualifications at both the National trials with Yogi. We then went on to gain our 3rd qualification and title 10 days later. I believe that makes Yogi the first Qld Gundog to gain a NRA (pending confirmation from Dogs Qld). So thank you to the Golden Retriever Club of Qld for including the Retrieving Ability Tests in the National. It would be wonderful to see more Goldens entering these tests. It really is not difficult. Three years prior, the decision to host this National was carefully deliberated as the Club was not very financial. With the knowledge that the cost of holding a National required a very large bank balance the committee took it upon themselves to ensure the Club would not only host the National but would host a spectacular event, realising much hard work lay ahead. When the decision to hold the National was agreed by the members, the committee worked tirelessly to raise in excess of $30,000 which enabled the show to be the success they had planned. At 8.00am on Wednesday 15th June 2011 the 8th Golden Retriever National was officially opened by Shirley Sullivan – “Auntie Shirley” to all her golden friends!!! In contrast to previous Nationals the committee decided on a very “low key” opening ceremony. Two of our “Golden Oldies” were invited to officially open and bless the show. Elsie Dodd – foundation member, Life Member and Patroness and Shirley Sullivan – Life Member and Patroness. Unfortunately Elsie was unable to attend the National due to ill health. Conformation judge, Mrs Anni Malte-Rasmussen from Denmark attracted an excellent entry of 241. Thanks to our Show Manager – Helen Acworth, Ring Steward – Ainslie Carius and Assembly Steward – Michael Watt. Obedience judges – Brian Fielder (SA) and Lyn Klecka (Vic) attracted another great entry of 25 each day. Thanks to Obedience Organisers – Eileen Pickles & Helen Tanfield and all stewards Retrieving Ability Test for Gundog judges – Kirsty Grey (NSW) and Vivienne Jones (NSW) gave us a very pleasing entry of 12 dogs competing each day. A great BIG thank you to Greg Mitchell and Margaret Wedgewood who stepped in at the last minute and organised and assured the smooth running of the R.A.T.G. over the two days. This was only the second trial ever held in Queensland for this discipline. It was wonderful to see Goldens doing what Goldens love doing - being gundogs .... All results of all disciplines with Anni Malte-Rasmussen’s critique (Conformation judge) are printed elsewhere in this Newsletter. Three functions in three days were well attended with over 100 guests on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday’s “Black Tie” dinner concluded with the traditional auction. Again a very pleasing financial return thanks to a few (well one in particular !!) generous attendees. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and getting into the fun of the evening. The Magician proved to be a great success. The discovery of “New Talent” within our membership was very amusing – not too sure when this new Magician’s assistant will be “booked” for her next appearance. One thing we can be assured of is that the next appearance will be “a hard act to follow”. Thanks for the laughs Annie..................... X Factor awaits !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Seminar held on Friday, with Speakers Roger Bridgford, Anni Malte-Rasmussen and Karen Hedberg was also well attended. Those who were able to stay on were full of praise for the morning, all seemed to have learned something new from the guest Speakers. Lastly and by no means least – a HUGE THANK YOU to each of the committee for the tremendous effort you have all given over the last few years. You all know what you have achieved and how well your efforts were received over the two days of the National. Melanie (Rennie), Hilary (Larsen), Helen (Tanfield), Bev (Thwaites), Paul (Thwaites), Cherree (Munro), Shayne (Careless) and Emma (Clark) Thank you seems such a small token for the large amount of work that went into the preparation, planning and running of an event such as this, but the appreciation that goes with this thanks is HUGE.................
