Students and faculty spent the afternoon remembering special moments throughout this school year and writing special messages to friends. The yearbook signing is an annual event, and is one of the most anticipated activities of the year. While the Lower School does not participate in the yearbook signing, students also enjoy the excitement of seeing their year in full color. Fifth grader Jackson Pratt agreed, “It was fun; it means school’s almost out. I am ready for summer.” Isaiah Glover, also in fifth grade, said, “Yearbook signing is fun!” The 2015-2016 A strapé production was under the direction of advisers Rebekah Boldin and Brittany Ward. Each player will need a pair of cleats and shin guards. The cost $50.00. Practices will begin in September and games will be on Saturdays beginning the first week of October. Summer Reading Rising 2nd-5th grader’s summer reading program is to read AR books of their choosing at any level of their choosing. Students will be able to r ead and take the AR quizzes at home on any electr onic device that has internet access. The ability to access the AR quizzes from your home devices will be activated on May 31 and will be closed on August 12. Points ar e ear ned when a quiz is passed. The amount of points earned is determined by the difficulty of the book . Students need to earn the following points: 2nd Grade—10 Points 3rd Grade—15 Points 4th & 5th Grade—20 Points REWARD!!!! The outgoing senior class performed a farewell skit after the incoming senior class sang and danced a farewell to them. The following scholarship, open only to Northwood Academy students, was presented at the Awards Assembly. SCISA Bill Simpson Award Zachary Ellison, Senior This award is the highest presented to individual student-athletes in the South Carolina Independent School Association, recognizing the top graduating male and female student-athletes in the association, with more than 100 member schools. Junior Iliane Domenech earned this honor by lettering in two sports: Cross Country and Varsity Girls Soccer. Charger Sports State Champion Junior Raena Burns won the SCISA State titles (AAA) in the pole vault and 400 m hurdles on Saturday, May 7 at Porter Gaud. Raena finished 8th out of 11 teams and also competed in the long jump and high jump. Congratulations Raena! FOOTBALL NOTE The pairings for the Sertoma Classic were announced at The Citadel. Northwood will be taking on Stall High School on Friday, August 12 in the 5th quarter. MALE ATHLETES Summer Lifting for JV (grades 6-8) & Varsity (grades 9-12) June 6 – July 22 from 8:00 to 9:30 A.M. (Varsity) / 8:00 to 9:00 A.M.(JV) No Lifting the week of July 4 – July 8 CLOSED WEEK (SCISA) Lifting will be 3 days a week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Lifting the month of June will take place at the gym on Otranto Road. The month of July, lifting will take place at the new campus. Any questions please contact Coach Keefe or Coach Leaver. GIRLS Summer conditioning SWIMMING All Female Athletes can lift on The Northwood swim team is excited to announce that for the upcoming 2016 season, we will be using the Carnes pool as our home facility! We are so excited to have our “own” space within walking distance of our brand new campus. Our first practice is set for Monday, August 1. Ther e will be mor e team infor mation sent over summer break. Contact Coach Carly Carter at [email protected] if you are a rising 6th12th grade student interested in being a part of our team. Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. This starts on Tuesday, June 7 and goes through Thursday, July 21. The week of July 4 is a closed week (No lifting all week). Cross Country Girls Volleyball Summer Hours Interested in joining the cross country team? The team will be having optional summer workouts starting Monday, June 6. Meet ups will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mondays and Thursdays the team will meet up at the new school at 9:00 a.m. On Tuesdays, the team will meet at Wannamaker County Park at 6:00 p.m. Look for the team at the Tupelo Shelter. Summer running/conditioning is strongly encouraged in preparation for the fall season. The girls finished with a 15-11 record. They did well in the State Tournament by defeating Cardinal Newman and Orangeburg Prep. Although the girls fell short in the semi -finals to Laurence Manning, they worked hard and never gave up. “I was really proud of the team,” said Coach Becky Ellison. “The girls persevered and were determined through the whole game. It was a tough loss, yet I am extremely proud of their work ethic and their drive to do well. I am looking forward to the future for Northwood Academy softball.” Several girls received honors including All-Region and North/South team Abby Kennedy, Katelyn Powell, Maycin Brown, and Bree Peatross. Congratulations to the team for their accomplishments! CHARGER BASEBALL Congratulations to our 2016 Charger baseball team! Northwood made a great run at the end of the season, losing in the quarterfinals to Laurence Manning. The Chargers finished the season with a 15-10 record. A special thanks to the coaches and players for showing what can happen when a team works hard. Well done, Chargers! Northwood Academy Homecoming Queen Honored Northwood Academy’s 2015-2016 Homecoming Queen, Taylor Lowry, has been named South Carolina’s representative in the America’s Homecoming Queen competition. Taylor will travel to the Rose Theater in Memphis, Tennessee in July to compete for the title of America’s Homecoming Queen. Congratulations, Taylor! Across Both Campuses Need Uniforms for Next Year?
