2015 CCW Luminary Sale
Cleaning

Closets?
The Council of Catholic Women is
organizing the Christmas Luminary Sale. Our
Christmas Eve display will include luminaries
purchased by parishioners and members of our
community. We hope to increase the number of luminaries in
this year’s display, providing a beautiful candle-lit pathway to
the Church on Christmas Eve. All proceeds will benefit
ministries of St. Petronille’s CCW. Some of those ministries
include: Adopt-a-Family, the Catholic High School Scholarship,
Parish Homebound Visits, and Donut Sunday.
Christmas Eve Church Display: $5 ~ Purchase a
luminary to be displayed outside the Church on Christmas Eve.
Luminaries may be purchased in honor or memory of a loved
one. These honorariums and memorials will be identified on a
sign in the Narthex as well as in the bulletin. This is a preorder sale and all order forms must be received by Dec. 6.
Home Luminary Kits: $10 ~ Luminary kits will be available to
purchase after each Mass during November and through the 2nd
week of December. Each kit includes enough supplies to set up
10 luminaries. The kits are bundled in holiday ribbon, making
them suitable for gift giving and will provide a lovely lighted
path to one’s home.
Please set aside
any winter coats
you no longer
wear or need. We
will be having a
winter coat drive
on Dec. 13 after
all the Masses.

At the northwest corner of
Geneva and
Bloomingdale Roads, close
to the northwestern
most corner of St.
Petronille’s parish
boundaries, is a small (46bed) Alzheimer’s and
Memory Care facility called
Autumn Leaves. For a few
months now Deacon Bob has been conducting
Communion services there, on the first and third
Wednesdays of the month, at 9:30am in the morning.
Other EMHCs would be welcome to bring Holy
Communion to the Catholic residents of Autumn Leaves
on the second, fourth, and/or fifth Wednesdays of the
month. Deacon Bob will be happy to train you and ease
you into this ministry. Ideally, we will have as many as
three parishioner volunteers, in addition to Deacon Bob,
to serve this need. If you are available and willing,
please contact Deacon Bob either by email, at
[email protected], or at 630 660-4335.

A Christmas Blessing
Each year, on the third Sunday of
Advent, children gather with their
families in St. Peter’s Square in
Rome for “Bambinelli Sunday”. The children bring with them
figures of the Christ Child – the “Bambinelli” – from their
family’s Nativity scene (presepe or crèche). During the noontime
Angelus prayer, the pope blesses the children and the figurines
they have brought.
We at St. Petronille also have an annual blessing of the
Bambinelli! On the third Sunday of Advent, December 13 this
year, after 11:30am Mass, a priest will call forth all those who
brought their “Bambinelli” – the Jesus figure from their nativity
scene at home. Father will bless the Bambinelli and the
children, just as Pope Francis will be doing in Rome.



Cards for Serenity House—Dec 10, 4-6pm
Christmas Caroling—Dec. 13, 6:30-8:30pm
Dodgeball Tournament—Feb. 5 (grades 8 and up)
Our Confirmation Candidates have been busy
taking up Pope Francis’ call to live out the
Works of Mercy. This year all 100 of our 8th
graders will focus on the Corporal Works of
Mercy as they work in their small groups at the
Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva. While
each group will be doing different work, all will
have the same experience of feeding our hungry
brothers and sisters.
Additionally, each
candidate will assist at the DuPage County
Convalescent Home on a Sunday morning.
Candidates wheel the Catholic residents down to
the dining room where they celebrate Mass
together! What a great way to live out the
Corporal AND Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Please keep our young people, and their parents,
in your prayers as they continue on this faith journey.
Upcoming Middle School Events
Adult Prayer Buddies Needed
Please consider being an adult Prayer Buddy.
To participate, mail or drop off a picture of yourself
(4x6 size or smaller) and your full name and address
to St. Petronille Christian Service. Each adult will also
receive a picture of his/her Second Grade prayer
buddy.
Throughout the year, the adults and Second
Graders are asked to add each other to their daily
prayers. The program is to help our Second Graders
understand that the members of the Parish Family love
and care about them. It is also an opportunity for our
adults to feel connected to our School and Faith
Formation children during their exciting Sacramental
year.
Thanksgiving Baskets
The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, CCW and Christian Service
collaborated to provide
Thanksgiving baskets
to
St.
Petronille
parishioners who were
in need of assistance.
The
Food
Pantry
provided a turkey, a
box of canned items,
and a bag of potatoes.
Plus, CCW donated a Jewel gift card to all recipients to help
offset any additional holiday food costs. On Nov. 20, Marcy
Farrell, Elizabeth Lewis, and I handed out 22 baskets to
preregistered parish families. Thank you Marcy, Elizabeth, CCW,
and the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry for all your help!
UNUSED MEDICATION DROP-OFF
Dr. Vic and Mary Jane Trinkus will be in the PLC collecting
unused medications after the Masses on Dec. 13. Medications
that have expiration dates until spring of 2016 will be considered
for use on the Medical Mission trip. Please remember to cross off
your name on the labels. Out-of-date medications can be taken to
the Glen Ellyn Police Department or the Fire Department.

Making plans for Spring Break Yet?
Make them with St. Pet’s Youth Ministry for the Spring
Break Mission Trip to the De La Salle Blackfeet School!
March 25 – April 3, 2016.
The Spring Break trip is for 12 teens and two adults who
are interested in working in the classroom as aides for
three days, doing service for two days and exploring
Glacier National Park for a day. We will spend Easter
with the beautiful people at the Little Flower Catholic
Church on the Blackfeet Reservation and the volunteers
who live and work there. We travel by train and we stay
in the bunkhouse on the Holy Family Mission, where we
cook our own meals and enjoy the Two Medicine River,
hike the Buffalo Jumps (weather permitting), and spend
time in the quiet. Applications available in Youth
Ministry
Office
or

A $200 deposit is due with application. Total cost will

FIRST RECONCILIATION
Congratulations to the 108 families of our parish
celebrating First Reconciliation. Please keep our
2nd Grade families in your prayers as they journey
toward First Holy Eucharist.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
CLOW will be held this week and next (12/13)
during the 9:30am Mass. We will take a break
and then return for the Lenten season on Feb. 21
IF we get enough adults to continue this ministry.
Each week there are between 50-70 children that
come for CLOW. It would be a disappointment to them if
we cannot continue to offer it. We need at least 3-4 adults to
supervise and 1 adult to lead each week. The lesson is
already planned and is always a reflection on the days
readings. Please call to help: 630-858-3796 x4109.

There is so much to do, so much on our minds
during the weeks before Christmas that it is difficult to
carve out some time for a quiet reflection of the meaning
of the Season.
While the Parish Library has a wonderful
collection of materials that provide spiritual nourishment
any time of the year, the following books or parts of
them are more specifically relevant to the Advent and
Christmas seasons.
These books can be found in a special display
