INMAN T he tribute portrait commissioned by the Beaver Valley Choral Society to commemorate founding artistic director Philip H. Inman's 50 years in music performance and education was unveiled and presented at the society's Dec. 17, 2006 Christmas concert at Saints. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Beaver, PA. Artist Elizabeth Asche Douglas was present for the event. A festive reception in the parish social hall followed the concert. AWARDS FOR 2006 T he Rochester Chamber of Commerce honored Elizabeth Douglas with a Service to the Chamber Award for her administration of the chamber's scholarship program at its holiday banquet at the Grand Valley Inn on Dec. 6. On Dec. 22, at the Winter Solstice party at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Elizabeth Asche Douglas was recognized with the 2006 Service to the Arts Award given by the Guild Council which represents the various guilds of artists and artisans affiliated with the Center. The ceremony was followed by a piano & vocal program from Lou Schreiber and Betty Douglas. MARTIN LUTHER KING REMEMBERED G eneva College will celebrate the holiday dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr., with a series of special events during the week beginning Jan. 15. At 7 pm, Monday evening in the Skye Lounge of the Student Center, Betty Douglas will be special guest vocalist at a concert featuring noted Chicago jazz pianist Willie Pickens. All are welcome to attend. A reception will follow. PRINT WINNER AT CAFÉ KOLACHE G eorgette Hassler of Butler is the winner of a framed print of one of the works in the exhibition that will continue at Café Kolache, , Beaver, PA. through January 2007.. W omen of Visions will be celebrating the collective's 26th anniversary in 2007. The opening event is an exhibition at Penn State, New Kensington, PA, Jan 8 Feb 7. Elizabeth Asche Douglas is represented by three works in the show, one of which is Bakuba//Aaron. In Feb, "Black History Month," WOV will exhibit at the Heinz Regional History Center. On Feb. 10, WOV artists will lead a day of workshops, "Trails of Courage," for the Trillium Girl Scouts Council of Pittsburgh. Elizabeth Asche Douglas will be facilitate Senior Scouts in a exploration of women in art. Her painting entitled Faithful Remnant, of Black Beauty's Lounge in Pittsburgh's Hill District, will be submitted for the Heinz Center exhibition. It was originally created as part of the August Wilson "Jitney" installation. Prints of works by Elizabeth Asche Douglas may be ordered by mail and from the website. Support Culture--Buy Art! S COMING EVENTS weetwater Center for the Arts will be hosting its second annual "Celebrate Sewickley" exhibition in March. Jazz giant Mary Lou Williams will be celebrated with a set of events scheduled for March 31 and April 1 at Pittsburgh's Kelly-Strayhorn Theater. Betty Douglas will serve on a panel discussing "Women in Jazz." She will also participate in the Easter Monday Jazz Fest benefiting B-PEP at Dowe's on 9th in Pittsburgh's Cultural District. April will also see the opening of Group A's exhibition at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
