There will be carnival rides, food, games, silent auction, and bingo from 7 to 10:30PM each evening. Saturday’s entertainment: 7PM to 12AM, will be Grupo Ondo & Los Desporadoz. Sunday’s entertainment: 7PM to 12AM, will be La Tropa F & Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers. __________________________________________ The people who bring forward a deaf man beg Jesus to lay his hand on him. When we beg God for what we or others need, we acknowledge our complete dependence on God. St. Francis and his followers gave up all possessions, instead begging for everything as a constant reminder that all is a gift from God. At Mass, the priest begs God to send the Holy Spirit on the gifts of bread and wine so they will become Jesus’ Body and Blood. God always gives us what we need. SCRIPTURE FOCUS The cure of the deaf-mute in today’s Gospel points to a deeper reality. We are told that Jesus returned “into the district of the ten cities.” This was Gentile country. The deaf-mute symbolized the Gentiles who had to have their ears opened to God’s word before they could proclaim it. For Mark’s community, which was mostly Gentile, the man’s cure dramatized their hearing the Good News. God draws near to all, Jews and Gentiles alike. ON THE WAY HOME FROM MASS:…. Life Focus 1. Describe a situation in our life when a gentle touch brought peace. 2. Describe an experience when you were accepted or helped by a stranger. How did this experience make you feel. 3. Recall an experience when you reached out to someone beyond your circle of friends. 4. What do you need in order to hear life better? _________________________________________ I want to thank Joey, our Youth Minister, and Pastoral Council that had an information table at TLU to encourage Catholic students to join us at St. James. __________________________________________ Thank you to The Belmont Social Club Restaurant for donating back $15.32. See ad on page 4. In the Gospel, who begged for something? How did Jesus respond? How did the people respond? LIVING THE WORD: Wrap your family Bible in beautiful wrapping paper. Gather your family and say that this package is a precious gift from God. Ask family members what they think they should do with it. Open the gift and hold the Bible reverently for all to see, announcing that in the words of the Bible we hear the voice of Jesus. Place the Bible in a place of honor where the family can come together to listen to the Word and offer prayers of petition, praise, and thanksgiving.
