Hellotoall, YOURPRESENCEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE… It’sunderthisthemethattakesplacethisyearthevolunteer weekfromapril15to21,2012.Canyouimaginewhatasociety would be like without the bene2its of volunteers? We all knowthattheneedsaregreat.Lifeisnotalwayseasyinour communities and some of our elderly are sometimes alone, deprived or ill. They are in need of help and moral support. Those who are alone can also becomevulnerableandashortvisitcangivethemcourage.Youngfamiliesalso facedif2icultmomentsandneedmoralsupport. This is were volunteer actions can make a difference. The visual shows us four superimposed hands of diffrent colour. The fact that are superimposed suggests that together there is strength in volunteer actions. We often hear these expressions : have heart in hand, give a helping hand, stretch out your hand and hand in hand. A gesture of kindness offered by generous hands. The colour of each hand demonstrates the diversity of volunteers, their gestures and needs. It’s a theme as well as an appropriate symbol to de2ine the volunteer in each of you, by your varied actions and gestures given freedly. You are the heart and the hands who make the difference in improving the quality of life and wellbeing of people in each of our communities. This week, we should take the time to say a big thank you to our volunteers for their important role in the advancement of our sosiety. We invite you to celebrate volunteer week by participating in the activities (see the program) come and socialize with the other volunteers, the personnel from the Center and the Board of directors who will be happy to welcome you. In the pleasure to meet you. Rose Henry www.cabst-simeon-port-daniel.com THE VOLUNTARY ACTION, AN ADVENTURE TO BE DISCOVERED… PAGE 4 Your director... Yes, already another page of the history of our Centre d’Action Benevole is turned with the beginning of our new fiscal year 2012-2013 which is here and is beginning with its numerous projects. Since September we have worked hard to put into action the PAIR Program and at the same time keeping together the other services. At present 12 people living at home are benefitting from this much appreciated service. Other interesting and very motivating projects are here and we continue to work very hard with the other Centres d’Action Benevole in the region for the good of the population. The adhesion of our code of ethics by our members demanded much work with the round of information last fall, the individual meetings and of course recalling some members last February. The recruitment of volunteers is still a very huge priority to assure the relief force. If you are able to share with a friend the importance of your volunteer actions with your Centre and perhaps even bring him/her to get involved, your action might make a huge difference. At this time, I wish to welcome Mrs. Mireille Arsenault and Mr. Paul Babin of Bonaventure and Mrs. Diane Chevrier of New Carlisle. The theme of this volunteer week is really true, YOUR PRESENCE MAKES A DIFFERENCE…Yes, the presence of people who give of themselves for the DIFFERENCE… good of others, for the good administration of an organization, for the environment, for the development of the culture, to welcome newcomers, etc., makes a difference in our everyday life, in our community. I say THANK YOU to each and everyone who by their presence makes all the difference. From April 15-21 be there, participate in the Volunteer Week activities and especially take the time to show your gratitude towards the ones who make a difference in your life, the volunteers!!! Happy Easter and a good Volunteer Week to each and everyone! Nathalie Bujold THE VOLUNTARY ACTION, AN ADVENTURE TO BE DISCOVERED… PAGE 5 News from the Board of directors … ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ The Chritmas Basket Operation went well this year as in the past. We recieved the sum of $ 14 524 in donations 224 baskets were distributed to families in the area. This year, 282 volunteers from different social clubs and organizations took part in the food collection and 72 volunteers prepared the baskets. This represents more than 1450 hours which volunteers gave to realize the Christmas Basket Operation in 2011 Bravo and thanks to the team of volunteers, donors and different partners! The update to the bank of volunteers ended with 208 volunteers who decided to renew their commitment. Thanks again for your involvement in your communauty. The work of the personnel continues for the adherence of the code of ethics. To date, only 21 volunteers have not adhered. Thank you for answering... The Centre d’Action Bénévole will be closed on Monday April 9 due to the Easter Holiday. Please take note in order to avoid any surprises if there are requests for services. April 15 to 21 is volunteer week thoughout Quebec. We therefore encourage organizations to underline the work of their volunteers by a small gesture of appreciation, by a simple Thank You. Do not forget that the presence of volunteers in our communities improves our quality of life. We take this opportunity to wish all volunteers a good week!!! Annual General Meeting : We ask you to place the date of this meeting on your agenda. It will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 9 : 00. We will be presenting the report of activities and services for the 20112011-2012 year. Be there, the meeting is for you. Finnaly, THANKS to all for the time you have given during the last year. Happy Easter and have an excellent volunteer week… Rose, Omer, Gabrielle, Raynelle, Irène, Gérard & Andrée www.cabst-simeon-port-daniel.com THE VOLUNTARY ACTION, AN ADVENTURE TO BE DISCOVERED… PAGE 6 Home Care… Dear Volunteers , This year, for St. Valentine’s, a celebration of love and friendship, 375 seniors, either ill or living alone received a poem written by Mr. Jacques Blanchet. Judging by the number of calls we received, those who received the polm are very grateful. A huge thankyou to Mr. Blanchet. A workshop for Francophone volunteers entitled, “ Helping out without burning out”, was held on February 24th by Mrs. Karene Larocque, psychologist, who specializes in self-development. This training enabled them to develop healthy attitudes to maintain their positive energy in order to remain a volunteer, active and healthy. The training was truly appreciated by the participants. Once again, this year the Volunteer Centre celebrated Quebec Week of Meals-onWheels from March 18th to 24th. The Centre offered all beneficiaries of Meals-onWheels their Thursday meal free of charge. This week is intended to publicize the service of Meals-on-Wheels to seniors living at home and to acknowledge the work of many volunteers who work in this service. We wish to offer our volunteers the highest recognition, and that is the expressions of appreciation from the many beneficiaries. Currently, the Center needs volunteers to translate the newsletter for members, to accompany and/or transport in the Paspebiac area and urgently needs substitute volunteers for the delivery of Meals-on-Wheels in Paspebiac and St-Godefroi. Do you know of anyone who would like to get involved in volunteering? Have them call 418-7525577 to make an appointment for an interview with us. We would be pleased to meet with them and to explain our the various services. This year, Volunteer Week is from April 15th through 21st. Joins us for a recognition brunch for the volunteers and also to the week’s activities organized by the Committee for Volunteers for Seniors. Last but not least, thanks to all those who give their time and their energy to make a difference. Your availability, your discretion, your confidentiality are very important qualities. Thank you. I would like to share with you this thought: One is unable to know whether the “action” That one is about to give is one which will cause the chain of reactions that were hoped for. One can simply do all that we can, with our heart and soul, remembering that the two or three first actions are as important as the last one. In the same sense, the parents using le P’tit Bonheur were recently polled about their appreciation of our services. Very good compliments were given about the generosity, the availability and the listening ear that you can give to them. I say Thank You because without you I would be unable to meet the demands of the parents! I am already eager to see you at the volunteer brunch or at the activities for the seniors in the different communities during Volunteer Week. You can consult our website www.cabst-simeon-port-daniel.com to know the times and dates of the various activities. And do not forget our Annual General Meeting which will be held the beginning of June. It is a good time to have all the information and to realise what the Centre d’Action Benevole is doing in its community. In the P’tit Bonheur department, I need volunteers to sort the clothes (the families are more at ease to choose the clothes) to clean the equipments that Le P’tit Bonheur rents (the families can profit from clean and safe equipment) and to translate the newsletters. If you are interested in any of the above, phone Le P’tit Bonheur at the Centre d’Action Benevole St-Simeon/Port Daniel at 418-752 5577 and ask for Annie! Each year, many elite walkers collect from around them $200.00 or more to help maintain the services already offered and to improve the life of those stricken with Alzheimer’s. The donations collected here in the territory of St-Simeon to Port Daniel stay in our office in Paspebiac serving the same territory. The elite walkers have just until April 27, 2012 to collect their $200.00. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers working among the various social clubs, as well as the walkers who decide to give of their time and are involved at different levels during this big event for a cause that is close to our hearts! If you would like to offer your time or be a member of the local organizing committee of the 2012 Walk, do not hesitate to call me at 418-752-5577. There is always a place for one or more during this wonderful event! It is an experience that you will love! After this symbolic walk, there are always surprises for all the walkers, such as a delicious lunch, a musical presentation, interviews and door prizes. It is a magical moment which produces smiles from the brave elite walkers and from those who make a donation of $10.00 or more. These donors become automatically accompanying walkers and could walk with us as well as receiving a tax deductible receipt. My name is Claudette Delisle and I have been here since December 16, 2011. I am happy to be part of the good team of the Alzheimer’s Society Gaspésie les Iles. I wish to thank all the team of CAB St-Simeon/Port-Daniel for their welcome and their collaboration. The services given are possible thanks to the many donations received from the Memory Walk. Among our services offered are a listening ear by telephone, meetings with individuals and/or with families, information booths, conferences and support groups for the care givers. And more, we have DVD’s to loan and books on the subject of Alzheimer’s. Don’t hesitate to contact me at 418-752-5577 or by email [email protected]. Thank you for giving, thank you for your presence, thank you to all the volunteers and to the local organizing committee! Happy6thMemoryWalkAnniversary! Theme Imagine living in a society where the benefits of volunteeringare non-existent. Thousands of people, usually the poor andthe sick, would be le to fend for themselves with li le hope, moral support, or a chance for a be er life.Volunteering makes all the difference between anindividualis#c society closed in on itself and one that valuessolidarity and a sense of community. Woven by generoushands into our daily lives, this difference is felt at all levels ofsociety. Our next campaign aims to recognize the importantrole—much like that of a link in a chain—that every volunteerplays in the dynamics and development of an inclusive society. Visual Of all the symbols that convey the no#on of coopera#on andcompassion, none is more eloquent than the hand. One needonly look at the countless idioms to understand the posi#veinfluence of the hand: lend a helping hand; go hand in hand;be in safe hands; the hand that feeds; and so on. In fact, the hand is oen perceived as being an extension of the heart—agesture of support from generous hands is also a gesture ofgenerosity from the heart and, whether big or small, is one thatmakes all the difference in our society.Regardless of the field in which they work, all volunteers who,day aer day, extend a helping hand, are united and mo#vatedby the same goal: that of making a difference and contribu#ng to the be erment of our society. The four different colouredhands represent the diversity of various socio-cultural origins,ac#ons and needs. By being superimposed, they reinforce theno#ons of cohesion, harmony and depth of ac#on, while alsoalluding to the idea of strength in numbers: all for one, and one for all! Colors The colours symbolize the diversity of our volunteers as well asthe values associated with their ac#ons: pale yellow(background) for union and energy; green for hope andcompassion; fuchsia for the need for affec#on and interac#on;blue for harmony, communica#on, and a sense of belongingwith the community; and orange for human warmth andmovement (ac#on). Typography The rounded font conveys the gentleness, openness andflexibility of our 'generous hands'. Its simplicity and visualdisposi#on allude to the harmony found in diversity.
