TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 5 CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly. THE BUYER Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price. BEFORE THE AUCTION Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell. THE AUCTION Bidding All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen. Bidding Increments Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments: Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. His works have specific style. His great fondness in Wayang has given a large contribution in his artworks. He was famous of artist with decorative style with rich colours, patterns of dots and lines and textures. He rarely left an empty space in his paintings. He varied his themes of paintings into; 1) Daily activities, 2) Mythology and 3) Mask. The present lot was one of his daily activities themes. This theme is expressed in paintings with simple compositions. They often depict subjects of human’s activities without showing their time and space. His paintings are so attractive as they are done with decorative style full of ornamental patterns. Decorative style is a style that allows wide range of expression. It almost has no rule. It is possible to paint a human body without minding the real proportion or the anatomy. . In principle, the style of decorative art is an effort to present patterns of lines, colors and textures that can express ideas with high ornamental element. Its basic principle of work is repetition of lines, dots, colors or basic shapes till they formed a (sometimes) rhythmic and consistent pattern. 027 IRSAM (Klaten, 1942) Gadis dan Bulan, 1996 Oil on canvas: 76 x 65 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Irsam, 1996 Literature: Mikke Susanto, IRSAM, Jejak - Jejak Dekoratif Published by PT. In Bali he moved one place to another, including Denpasar, Ubud and Buleleng, in his pursuit of natural beauty of Bali which he poured it all in his paintings. Many of his paintings depict the nature of his surrounding environment. He had several solo exhibitions in Bandung Institute of Technology, The Honolulu East West Center, and the Center of Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta. He received the “Dharma Kusuma” art awards from the local government of Bali. Arie Smit is an artist who loves natural beauty and Balinese culture in the form of imaginative painting, painting that express the pure soul of an adventurer, a natural devotee of tropical sunlight. Nature provides Arie Smit with a tremendous amount of energy that serves as the driving force for his exploration. In his works, Arie portraits his deep admiration for the beauty of Bali, its mountains, palm trees, rice terraces, the life of the farmers and particularly, the local spiritual life. Life on the island is perpetual rich with rituals. Arie’s painting show breath-taking landscapes, relaxing youths, colourful tropical gardens, glittering seascapes, and quiet temples that evoke a sense of wander. 042 ARIE SMIT (Zaandam, the Netherlands, 1916) In The Village, 2011 Acrylic on canvas: 50 x 50 cm Signed and dated lower right: Arie Smit, 2011 Signed, titled and dated on the reverse This lot is accompanied with certificate of authenticity from artist RP 145.000.000 – 200.000.000 28 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 29 043 PANDU PRIBADI (Boyolali, Central Java, 1965) Dagu Panjang 044 HAN SNEL (Scheveningen, 1925 – 1998) Women, 1974 Acrylic on canvas: 100 x 80 cm Engraving ed. 22/40: 30 x 26 cm Signed, lower left: Han Snel Dated, lower right: 22/40, Bali’74 RP 5.000.000 – 7.000.000 RP 4.000.000 – 6.000.000 045 TAUFAN ADI PRIYONO (Pasuruan, East Java, 1975) Wanita, 2003 047 SOETOPO (Yogyakarta, 1931) Ibu dan Anak, 1992 Oil on canvas: 140 x 77 cm Signed and dated lower left: Soetopo, 25 Februari 1992 RP 40.000.000 – 50.000.000 Bronze:26 x 14 x 2 cm Signed and dated, lower area: Taufan, 2003 RP 6.000.000 – 9.000.000 046 SRIHADI SOEDARSONO (Solo, 1931) Bercermin IV ed. 30/80, 2003 Lithograph: 62 x 46 cm Signed and dated, upper right: Srihadi S’24.6.01 Signed, titled and dated, lower area: Bercermin IV Srihadi 2003 RP 15.000.000 – 20.000.000 30 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 31 048 FREDERICK KASENDA (1920-1950) Landscape River, 1938 Oil on board: 39 x 63 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Frederick Kasenda, Minahasa, 1938 RP 8.000.000 – 12.000.000 049 SUDJONO ABDULLAH (Yogyakarta, 1911 – 1993) The Lake, 1975 Oil on canvas: 100 x 225 cm Signed, lower left: S. Due to his eye illness he was no longer using the style. Creatively he produced painting method called “mata baur - combined eyes”. Since then he creates impressionist painting of thick paint texture. Nevertheless this kind of painting gained special response from public. Awiki’s paintings include themes such as flowers, dancers, houses, trees, as well as still life. His paintings were inspired with his surroundings that described people’s daily lives and tradition. Awiki works with a purity of purpose and a mastery of technique that set his art beyond the constraints of time or place. Engaged in a direct impressionistic encounter with the dynamics of light, Awiki approaches his work with great physical courage, often enduring the ferocity of the tropical sun in order to complete a painting. It is amazing to watch Awiki paint, with a brush hardened to function like a palette-knife, he works very fast with great conviction. 076 AWIKI (Surabaya, 1961) Panen, 2012 Oil on canvas: 80 x 95 cm Signed and dated, lower left: AW.12 RP 90.000.000 – 120.000.000 44 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 45 077 KUSMANTO (Demak, 1978) Kepala Besar, 2005 Acrylic on canvas: 100 x 80 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Kusmanto, 2005 RP 10.000.000 – 15.000.000 078 I KOMANG GEDE TEDJA MULYA (Gianyar, Bali, 1976) Berburu Babi, 2002 Oil on canvas: 145 x 180 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Tedja Mulya, Yogya, 2002 Signed, titled and dated on the reverse 081 YAYAT SURYA (Cirebon, 1968) Michael Jackson, 2009 RP 10.000.000 – 15.000.000 Oil on canvas: 200 x 200 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Yayat Surya, 2009 RP 18.000.000 – 25.000.000 082 SABRI (Jakarta, 1955) James Dean”Celebrity Series”, 2008 Oil on canvas: 140 x 140 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Sabri, 2008 RP 10.000.000 – 15.000.000 079 UNTUNG WAHONO (Yogyakarta, 1962) Tahun Baru Di Bundaran HI, 2013 Acrylic on canvas: 140 x 140 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Untung W. 2013 Signed, titled and dated on the reverse RP 6.000.000 – 9.000.000 46 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 080 JANURI (Tuban, East Java, 1977) Pindah Rumah, 2005 Oil on canvas: 100 x 40 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Januri, 2005 RP 4.000.000 – 7.000.000 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 47 085 RUSTAMADJI (Klaten, 1921 - 2001) Taman Bunga, 1980 Oil on canvas: 100 x 80 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Rustamadji, 1980 RP 15.000.000 - 20.000.000 083 NASHAR (Pariaman, 1928-1994) Alam Terbentang, 1979 Acrylic on canvas: 88 x 137 cm Signed and dated, lower right: 17.8.79 Provenance: Private collection of Mr. Ajip Rosidi 084 I MADE WIANTA (Bali, 1949) Calligraphy, 1994 Acrylic on canvas: 160 x 278 cm Signed and dated, lower left: Wianta, 1994 RP 30.000.000 - 40.000.000 RP 30.000.000 - 40.000.000 086 LUCIEN FRITS OHL (Palembang, South Sumatra, 1904 – The Hague, 1976) Adu Ayam Oil on board: 22 x 17 cm Signed, lower right: L. Such was the journey for Dutch artist Auke Cornelis Sonnega. Born in Leeuwarden and educated at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Amsterdam (School of Arts and Crafts), Sonnega first set foot on Indonesian soil when he arrived in Batavia in 1935. Two years later he moved to Bali, which became a great source of inspiration for his painting. After the war settled in Ubud in Bonnet’s old studio in Puri Kaleran and dedicated himself solely to painting. His style is fresh and unique, clearly influenced by his designer training and background. It is very influenced by Art Deco and often graphic, however, his larger canvases often transcend these limitations and can even be thought to have a mystical impact. He also made many portraits, usually of doe eyed young men (he was in the words of a long time Ubud expatriate euphemism a member of the “club”). These are very stylized and use a bright palate with strong outlining of his subjects. Sonnega, like Bonnet, stayed in Bali until 1957 when he was forced to leave by the Indonesia authorities in the era of Confrontation. The painting becomes all the more poignant when this separation is considered – the immortalization of a reality that was to him a fulfillment of a dream. 092 AUKE CORNELIS SONNEGA (Leeuwarden, 1910 – 1963) Portrait of Balinese Man (Portret Van een Balinese Man), 1956 Oil on canvas: 55 x 45 cm Signed and dated, lower right: A. Thailand has brought serenity to Theo Meier that made an important contribution to the artist’s well-deserved fame. His love on the island made Theo painted numerous objects of figures, landscape as well as village scene. Theo Meier's paintings have achieved worldwide recognition for their technical excellence, and artistic integrity. Laiad, was in fact, the real woman the artist needed in order to be able to create with a peaceful mind. Day after day, she brought to his heart a new serenity, and, on 9 May, she became his wife in a traditional Thai Wedding, well-organized by Prince Sanidh in Hua Hin, with the consul of Switzerland in Bangkok Ernest Junier (from Basel), as the witness. The newlyweds went to Phuket on their honeymoon, by train. Appreciating her dynamic character, enhanced by a strong Buddhist education, Theo decided to name Laiad Jettli. Laiad Phab Prakansiwong was Theo’s last wife. “Schatzli” is a nickname/moniker in SwissGerman on someone you hold very dear. Theo as we know was from Switzerland. SwissGerman language has many cute words like that; they add the “li” in the end of the word to make it cozy-cute. Like “Herzgeferli”, Schnackermusli etc. All those words are used to express that they are dear to you. “Schatzli” Theo always called her that. But the spelling has gotten out of hand though. It’s always like that in different languages, that people spell it their way on how it sounds. But it is actually “Schatzli”,not “Jettli” or “Yattlie” that some are spelling it. 119 THEO MEIER (Switzerland, 1908 - 1982) Portrait of Jettli, 1966 Oil on burlap: 70 x 60 cm Signed and dated, upper right: The Meier, 66 Provenance: Private European Collector acquired directly from the artist RP 120.000.000 - 180.000.000 66 TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION 67 120 HIMAWAN DWI PRASETYO (Madiun, East Java, 1984) Illegar Logging 121 RITA WIDAGDO (Germany, 1938) Relief Dinding, 2001 Acrylic on canvas: 130 x 105 cm Signed, lower right: Himawan Cooper and brass: 50 x 50 cm RP 4.000.000 - 6.000.000 RP 15.000.000 - 20.000.000 124 TEGUH OSTENRIK (Jakarta, 1950) Without Keynote, 2007 122 JOHAN ABE TOBING (B, 1976) Wanita, 2010 123 ABDUL DJALIL “AD” PIROUS (Meulaboh, Aceh, 1932) Pulau-pulauku Yang Tenggelam dan Hilang, 2003 Fiberglass: 43 x 25 x 20 cm Signed and dated, lower area: Johan Abe,010 Mixed media on canvas: 55.5 x 60 cm Signed and dated, lower right: AD. Themes in his artworks include the rich-poor divide in Indonesia, the lives of the urban dwellers in Indonesian cities, the poor and neglected and the changes in the Indonesian society in general, particularly in his own hometown, Jakarta. He often pictures how urban lifestyle has oppressed the misfortunate citizens in big cities, especially Jakarta. The present lot illustrates a group of Persija football team supporters waiting in line before the game. The group usually called The Jakmania which was established in 1997 and have become a certain icon of football competition in Jakarta. In 2000 he received the Lempad Prize for his art from Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) and currently servers as the general chairman for this artists’ group which is based in Yogyakarta. He has held solo exhibitions in Bali, Yogyakarta, Singapore, Hongkong, and Jakarta. With a highly skilled of art, Putu Sutawijaya makes contour of his paintings in impressive black lines. Putu invests in his figurative narrative certain anonymity. The figures are androgynous and, for the most part, faceless which is strikingly different from that of much of recent Indonesian art which personalizes the messages of art by giving faces to the characters. For Putu, the facelessness of his figures is not what someone looks like but rather “human expressions, conveyed through his work, that are meant to apply cross-culturally”. He was graduated from the Institute of Fine Art (ISI) Yogyakarta. He had lived for 2 years in Switzerland to continue his study and working. He has participated in several exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas. He had his solo exhibition in Semarang Gallery (2002). He received awards as the first winner of PMIAA, a finalist for Asean Art Award (2000) in Singapore and Indofood Art Award, Jakarta (2002). Now he lives in Bantul, Yogyakarta. The exhibition at the furnace gallery (15 – 30 May 2010) was Budi Haryono aka Ubrux’ first exhibition in Europe, a breakthrough after his three earlier solos at Semarang Gallery, Bentara Budaya Jakarta, and iPreciation gallery in Singapore. Budi Ubrux loves to create contemporary realist artworks by exploring newspaper as a true-lies media. This phenomenon is put into canvas in the form of human being with skin from newspaper. Figures wrapped from top to toe in newspaper appeared suggesting a futuristic imagination of what could happen in our uncertain future.
