From the President’s Desk,
Dear Chamber Members,
Today, we find our State of Wisconsin at a crucial moment in history. In Madison, and all over the state and nation, fevered debates
over budget shortfalls, budget repair bills, union bargaining rights, and the responsibility of elected officials are taking place. No matter
on what side of these issues your support may fall, there is a larger issue at stake for all citizens of Wisconsin.
For the past four decades we have witnessed a steady decline in Wisconsin, specifically the loss of manufacturing businesses and jobs,
turning Wisconsin and the Midwest from a thriving industrial center into what now is commonly known as the “Rustbelt” of this nation.
An endless stream of government regulations and requirements, increased corporate, real estate and income taxes, union overreach,
and a general anti-business attitude has sent many former state businesses and potential new businesses scrambling for greener pastures. Following those businesses out of state are our best and brightest citizens and university graduates.
We now have a Governor who had the wisdom to recognize the realities, and has the courage to try and do something about the decline. Unfortunately, we also have many that cannot recognize those realities, or refuse to end the status quo, and are willing to continue on the same path of decline.
We have travelled that path for the past forty years, and it has not worked!
As New Holstein Area Chamber of Commerce members and entrepreneurs, you all have an enormous stake and responsibility in this
moment in history. Now is NOT the time to be silent. Your future, your children’s future, and the future of the State of Wisconsin depend on your actions.
Just as our ancestors once built this state into an industrial giant, we have to have the courage to knock the rust off and work towards a better economic environment for everyone. Sometimes, the first step is the most difficult, but you go nowhere without taking
it.
The time is NOW, for the business community and Wisconsin citizens to step up and put an end to
the defeatist attitudes, and demand our elected officials truly do “Open Wisconsin For Business”.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Bosma

Next Promotions Committee Meeting – Wed., April 13, Noon at the Altona.
The New Holstein Area Chamber of Commerce is looking to start something new this year called Mix & Mingle.
What is Mix & Mingle? Similar to the Meet and Greet held to meet new members where you network with each other. Mi
& Mingles are all about you and your business. You pick the month you want to host the Mix & Mingle. The event runs
for two hours usually from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Only Chamber Members are at the event. The host business during this time
can give tours, presentations, and/or hand out informational packets or items. Sometimes their may be a short meeting if
needed. The host business provides appetizers and beverages as they see fit. Some businesses see this as a perfect time fo
an open house. All members are encouraged to bring business cards or brochures to hand out during the event. We hope
that Mix & Mingle will become a valuable member benefit.
If you are interested in hosting a Mix & Mingle, please send an email to Promotions Committee Chair – Jennifer
Odekirk at [email protected] or call 898-1431.

RE:
Worthless Checks
Last month Jerilyn Dietz the Calumet County District Attorney
sent a letter to all of the businesses regarding the Financial Crimes
Services Check Diversion program (worthless check diversion program). The District Attorney’s office will not be using the worthless check division program any longer. Those businesses that
receive bad checks are to file all of their paperwork with the Calumet County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
If anyone has any questions regarding this please call me.
Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
will be hosting an exercise and nutrition open house on Thursday March
24th from 3-4 pm. Nancy Krueger, Health and Wellness Coordinator from
the Calumet County Aging and Disability Resource center will be on hand
to present on the Strong Women program. Please call with questions
and RSVP to Aly so that we can adequately plan @ 209-1494.
