Tree of Life (above right): Donor family members, recipients and hospital personnel gathered at the Med Star Washington Hospital Center’s Samet Atrium for its first Tree of Life to celebrate and remember donors in the District of Columbia. Tom Susco wears a #1 in the 8K Race his parents established to honor his donor brother Tim. Tom intends to run at least a half marathon in every state to honor Tim’s gifts of life. 6,297,746 citizens were registered organ, eye and tissue donors in DC, MD and VA at the end of 2012.
