Craig MacMahon Español: Fr. Fernando Cuenca COMMUNION TO THE SICK - A LOS ENFERMOS English/Español: A priest/Un sacerdote Call the Parish Office / Llamen a la Oficina de la Parroquia May 15, 2011 Fourth Sunday of Easter May is the Month of Mary May is the month of Mary. What are some ways that we can show our special love towards our Heavenly Mother? Here are a few suggestions. First, Consecration! Start off your day by consecrating your life to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Offer all you say, do, and think to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Second, Scapular! Wear the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This is the exterior sign of your consecration to Mary. By wearing the Scapular you are saying that you love Mary and belong to her family. Reverently kiss the Scapular. The Church offers indulgences by simply kissing the Scapular. Third, Imitation! Love for a person leads to imitation. Strive to imitate the virtues of Mary. In the spiritual masterpiece of St. Louis de Montfort, True Devotion to Mary, number 108, the saint gives a list of Mary’s virtues. Her ten (10) principal virtues are: deep humility, lively faith, blind obedience, unceasing prayer, constant self-denial, surpassing purity, ardent love, heroic patience, angelic kindness, and heavenly wisdom. Implore Mary for the grace to imitate these sublime virtues; if done, you are on the highway to holiness. Fourth, Images! Honor the images of Mary. Statues, paintings, mosaics, icons – all of these honor her in a special way. Your home and family is the “Domestic Church”; enthrone a beautiful image of Mary in your home like Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe, or Our Lady of Grace. The mere image of Mary purifies and sanctifies the environment. Finally, Rosary! The Rosary is the prayer that Our Lady loves most. When she appeared in Fatima in 1917, six times, she repeated this desire every time: “Pray the Rosary”. The name she gave herself at Fatima was “Our Lady of the Rosary”. Blessed Pope John Paul II in his apostolic letter, The Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary, warmly exhorted all families to pray the Rosary and for two special intentions: for world peace and for the family. Fr. Patrick Peyton expressed this with these immortal sayings: “A world at prayer is a world at peace.” Furthermore, “The family that prays together, stays together.” Every family should set aside 15 minutes every day to pray the most Holy Rosary. Hopefully, the father, “The Spiritual leader of the family” will be the one who takes the initiative to lead his family in this most beautiful prayer that Blessed Pope John XXIII has called “A summary of the whole Gospel” True devotion to Mary is the quickest, most secure and easiest path to the Heart of Jesus, Our Risen Lord and Savior! Pray to Mary, love Mary, imitate Mary, entrust yourself to Mary and surely she will help you to be holy as God is holy. -Fr. Edward Broom, OMV Remember: Pray the Rosary Mother The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. “She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body… “The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation… “What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?” - Cardinal Mindszenty Second Year Confirmation Students - Pictures! Pictures with the Bishop are now available for pick up. Please come to the Confirmation office between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. There is a donation for two - 5x7. Prayer for Priests Lord Jesus, present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, and living perpetually among us through Your Priests, grant that the words of Your Priests may be only Your words, that their gestures be only Your gestures, and that their lives be a true reflection of Your life. Grant that they may be men who speak to God on behalf of His people, and speak to His people of God. Grant that they be courageous in service, serving the Church as she asks to be served. Grant that they may be men who witness to eternity in our time, traveling on the paths of history in Your steps, and doing good for all. Grant that they may be faithful to their commitments, zealous in their vocation and mission, clear mirrors of their own identity, and living the joy of the gift they have received. We pray that Your Holy Mother, Mary, present throughout Your life, may be ever present in the life of Your Priests. -Padre Eduardo Broom, OMV Mass Intentions / Intenciones de Misa Saturday, May 14th 8:00 a.m.-Irene Geronimo (RIP) 6:00 p.m.-Etelvina Bernardo (RIP) Sunday, May 15th 6:30 a.m.-Omar Lopez (RIP) 8:00 a.m.-Parishioners 10:00 a.m.-Alejandro Soto (Thanksgiving) 12:00 p.m.-Rebeca Gallardo (RIP) 2:00 p.m.-Walbert Urey & Mercedes Urey (RIP) 4:00 p.m.-Javier Gutierrez Avalos (RIP) 6:00 p.m.-Isidro Dimagiba (IRP) 8:00 p.m.-Jovanni Michel (Thanksgiving) Monday, May 16th 6:00 a.m.-Gloria Espiritu (Thanksgiving) 8:00 a.m.-Maria Esquivel (RIP) 12:00 p.m.-Kristen Deaton (Thanksgiving) 6:30 p.m.-Karina Sanchez (Thanksgiving) 6:30p.m.(sp)-Javier & Rocio Perez (2nd Wedding Anniversary) Tuesday, May 17th 6:00 a.m.-Tom Darnell 8:00 a.m.-Maria F. He told his employercontractor of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go & asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career. When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you." The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we would do it much differently. But, you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, and every day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your attitude, and the choices you make today, help build the "house" you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely! Just for Laughs… A doctor says to his patient, “I have bad news and worse news”. “Oh dear, what's the bad news?” asks the patient. The doctor replies, “You only have 24 hours to live.” “That's terrible”, said the patient. “How can the news possibly be worse?” The doctor replies, “I've been trying to contact you since yesterday.” Did You Know? Listen to Your Children This summer, when your children are out of school, on different schedules, are meeting new people and going to new places, make sure that you talk to them often about their experiences and the people they’ve met. Listen carefully to your children. If possible, observe and get to know the other children and adults who are part of your children’s summertime fun. Above all, communicate your safety concerns to your children. Make sure they know that they can come to you with any concerns they may have about the people they interact with. And, if you hear of or observe behaviors that may be inappropriate, make sure to communicate your feelings to people who are in a position to intervene. Communication is key to creating and maintaining a safe environment all year round. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at 213 637 7650. ¿Sabe Usted?
