From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The big day has arrived!! Today is
the Carnival of St. Toribio Romo, priest and martyr. Many in our community will be walking in a
pilgrimage of remembrance from St. Francis Xavier Church to Sts. Peter and Paul Church. They
will be accompanied by Indian dancers, horses and
riders, devout pilgrims, and those who are merely
curious. Along the route there will be those who
come out of their houses to look and stare at this
strange but wonderful spectacle of Catholic devotion and love for a priest and martyr and now canonized saint of the Church. If you are not joining
in the procession at least you might want to share
spiritually in this walk by saying a silent prayer for
St. Toribio’s intercession as we build a chapel
dedicated to his memory and as we continue to try
to serve the needs of the immigrants. The pilgrim
Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in the outdoor area behind the school. After the Mass there
will be food and music and games for the children.
I hope everyone has the opportunity to participate
at least for a little while. The altar boys and their
families will be eating lunch together at 2:30 p.m.
in the cafeteria and will listen to a talk on St.
Toribio as well as to a singer from the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Then, they will play some basketball in the gym and enjoy some of the sights and
sounds of the Carnival. A big thank you to all
those who made this Carnival happen and for those
working in it today.
Today is also a special day for Father Juan Pablo as
he celebrates his anniversary of ordination to the
priesthood. If you get the opportunity you might
want to wish him a “happy anniversary” and say
some prayers for him that he continue steadfast in
the service of the Lord until the end of his life,
which we hope will be a long one.
Speaking of ordinations, the Bishop of our Tulsa
Diocese will ordain Brian Ketterer a priest next
Saturday, May 31st at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Cathedral. And he will also ordain several

permanent deacons at 10:00 a.m. the same day at
the Cathedral. These two public celebrations are
open to anyone who would like to participate. Indeed it is a good thing to do In order to fully support those who are freely choosing to give their
lives to the Lord as His ministers. Let us remember these men in our prayers throughout the week.
Next Sunday, June 1st some of our young people
will be going to the Cathedral for the Sacrament of
Confirmation which will be conferred by our
Bishop at 2:00 p.m. We congratulate them and
hope that the Holy Spirit fills them with zeal for
spreading the Gospel of Our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ.

Happy Anniversary of Ordination to the
Priesthood
Happy Anniversary to Fr. Juan Pablo on his
7th Anniversary May 25th and to Fr. Tim on his
29th Anniversary May 31st.
I read once that praying the Rosary is a
wonderful way to love Jesus, because in doing so
you are loving Jesus through the heart of Mary.
We all need help to love Jesus more as Mary did,
and the Rosary is a wonderful way to do this. This
way we know if we've prayed the Rosary each
day, we have given Jesus some of Mary's love
which cannot be outdone. I think one of the biggest differences I noticed when I began to pray the
daily Rosary was that it helped me to stay more
connected throughout the day. One way that also
helps me to focus more as I pray the Rosary is to
remember the different fruits that are assigned to
each mystery. I heard the suggestion once not to
ignore the fruits of the Rosary. Honestly, until
someone suggested this to me, I hadn't paid much
attention to these. I had noticed them in a few
guides on how to pray the Rosary, but since they
were not a part of the main spoken prayers, I overlooked them.
When my mind wanders as I pray the Rosary, I find that trying to think about why a certain
fruit was chosen for a particular mystery and how
I can apply that fruit better in my life does help me
to focus more. I also find that thinking about how
Jesus or Mary or St. Joseph embodies the fruit
listed for each mystery can help open up the mystery a bit more as well. The fruits of the Rosary
are as follows:

Santacruzan is a religious-historical pageant held
in many cities and towns throughout the Philippines that is held in the last day of May (Feast of
the Visitation). This custom and celebration started
after the proclamation of the dogma of Immaculate
Conception, 1854. Actually, it is a month long culminating activity, venerating the Blessed Virgin
Mary by offering flowers to her at springtime, also
known as Flores de Mayo (Flowers of Mary) or
The Beautiful Flower: Mary Most Holy. The pageant commemorates Helena (known as Reyna
Elena), mother of Emperor Constantine, finding
the true Cross in Jerusalem. After the celebration
of mass there will be an offering of flowers,
crowning of Mary and street procession. Join us
for refreshment at the gym.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
In the tradition of the Church, not necessarily in your own life’s timeline, confirmation is the
midpoint of Christian initiation, standing between
font and table. Full initiation is completed when a
confirmed person shares in the Eucharist. Centuries
ago, this first sharing in the Eucharistic assembly
was marked by a first sharing in the Prayer of the
Faithful. This prayer raises up the needs of the
church and human community, the concerns of the
faithful assembled, as they prepare to lift up the
world to the Father’s love. So a person could not
participate in the prayer until they were anointed
with the “Oil of Thanksgiving.” Next, the newly
baptized presented their gifts at the altar, a sure sign
of their investment in a new way of life. Until the
sixth century, these people normally drank a mixture of milk and honey as a kind of preCommunion. They were hungry, of course, since
they were baptized after long fasting, but this beautiful symbol of the promised land revealed them as
God’s chosen, heirs to the promise. Although the
“milk shake” disappeared centuries ago, we still see
the vigor of this new life whenever adults are initiated at Easter, and increasingly in confirmation
ceremonies that are attentive to this meaning.

Hermanos y hermanas,
Ha llegado el gran día! Hoy es la
Kermés de Santo Toribio Romo, sacerdote y mártir. Muchas personas de nuestra comunidad van a
estar caminando en la peregrinación conmemorativa desde la Iglesia de San Francisco Javier a la
Iglesia de San Pedro y San Pablo. Estarán acompañadas con bailantes indios, caballos e jinetes, y
peregrinos devotos. En el camino la gente saldrá de
los hogares para mirar a este espectáculo raro pero
maravilloso de la devoción católica y el amor por
un cura y mártir quien ahora es un santo canonizado de la Iglesia. Si no esta participando en la procesión tal vez puede compartir en esta caminata
espiritualmente rezando una oración en silencio
por la intercesión de Santo Toribio mientras construyamos un Santuario dedicado a su memoria y
mientras tratemos de servir las necesidades de los
inmigrantes. Se ofrecerá la Misa peregrina a las
11:00 am al aire libre detrás de la escuela. Después
de la Misa habrá comida, música y juegos para los
niños. Espero que todos tengan la oportunidad de
participar a lo menos por un tiempo. Los monaguillos y sus familias desayunaran juntos a las 2:30
pm en la cafeteria y escucharan a una platica sobre
Santo Toribio y una platica presentada por una
cantante de Guanajuato, México. Luego, jugaran
baloncesto y disfrutaran de la kermés. Muchísimas
gracias a todos que hicieron esta kermés posible y
a todos que estan trabajando hoy.
Hoy es un día especial para el Padre Juan Pablo
por que celebra su aniversario de ordenación al
sacerdocio. Si tengan la oportunidad puedan desearlo feliz aniversario y rezar por él que continua
devotamente en servicio al Señor hasta el final de
su vida, que esperemos va a ser larga.
Hablando de ordenaciones, el Obispo de nuestra
Diócesis de Tulsa ordenara a Brian Ketterer al sacerdocio el próximo sábado, el 31 de mayo a la
1:30 pm en la Catedral de la Sagrada Familia.
También ordenara varios diáconos permanentes a
las 10:00 am ese mismo día. Estas dos
celebraciones públicas están abiertas a cualquier
persona que desea asistir. De hecho seria bueno
asistir para apoyar a los que van a dar sus vidas al
Señor como ministros. Oremos por todos ellos esta
semana.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
En Uruguay se celebra la fiesta patronal
más grande durante le mes de junio. Celebran a
San Cono, un santo italiano del siglo doce. En el
siglo diecinueve los inmigrantes italianos que vivían en Uruguay deseaban tener una capilla para
honrar la memoria de este santo, oriundo de la provincia de Salerno, Italia.
En junio de 1885, las campanas de una modesta capillita anunciaron el recibimiento de una
imagen de San Cono que llegó en procesión. Desde entonces esta costumbre italiana se fue haciendo parte integral de la devoción cristiana en Uruguay.
Cono fue el hijo único de una pareja anciana que vivía en la ciudad de Teggiano, Salerno.
Según la leyenda, una noche mientras dormían,
esta pareja soñó un cono de luz que brotaba de la
madre. Al nacer el niño decidieron llamarlo Cono.
Desde muy niño, Cono mostró un afán por las cosas de Dios y a los dieciséis años ingreso a un monasterio benedictino siguiendo el consejo de una
voz interior que lo invitaba a consagrarse al Señor.
A los dieciocho, su monasterio se lleno de luz y
una voz anuncio su muerte, y al día siguiente falleció.
