To help further diversity in the
film industry, the HBFF Storyteller
Competition encourages and develops black screenwriters. We
identify emerging talent and place
top new screenwriters firmly on
the industry’s radar directly in the
heart of the film industry. The three
competition finalists receive a live,
staged reading of a scene from their
script, performed by professional
actors and directed by a stage/film
director extraordinaire Donald B.
Welch. Actors Loretta Devine, Obba
Babatunde, singer/actor Kenny Lattimore and radio personality/author
Michael Baisden, are among those
who have performed in the lived
staged reading.
