URBAN MEYER - LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
Recently, our staff was pointed towards a great idea implemented by University of Florida Head Football
Coach, Urban Meyer. Meyer, in his second season at Florida, has created a "Leadership Committee" to
help cultivate a better team environment. The committee, made up of current players from all years, is
entrusted with cutting off team oriented issues before they become a major issue. The description below
comes from the 2006 Florida Football Media Guide.
A firm believer that players should be accountable to each other
and not just the coaching staff, Coach Meyer utilizes the Florida
Leadership Committee.
Members of the Leadership Committee include six seniors, two
juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen. The Committee
is charged with acting as spokesmen for the team and handling
situations related to team policy issues, academic affairs, offcampus circumstances and other topics. The committee meets
periodically throughout the year with Meyer.
“We are looking for the Leadership Committee to enhance team
chemistry, police the team from within and exemplify what it
means to be leaders, both on and off the field,” says Meyer.

It is the ONE opportunity
that matters. You can’t be
concerned about other
guys getting more
opportunities or more
chances to make a play. At
some point the
opportunity will be yours.
When you have the
chance to make a play, to
make a difference, at that
moment that is all that
matters. Everyday, I
practice with that
opportunity in mind.
