Hello, my name is Yomar, brazilian graphic designer who
explores into photography, film making, concepts, art
direction, calligraphy & custom typography systems.
based in New York City
based before in Rotterdam for 9 years
I have been fortunate enough to craft various design and
handcrafted typography projects for a number of international
brands at top creative advertising agencies in Brazil, Europe
and United States, including wieden & kennedy, 180 amsterdam,
tribal ddb, among others. One of my proudest moments was
watching players from Argentina, Mexico, France, Denmark
and Germany walk onto the field during the world cup 2010
championships wearing the jersey I designed. I love to teach
also, currently I hold an assistant professor position at
Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

The project of my life so far, being able to be part of 180 amsterdam design team to develop a font to be
used for all Adidas communications and teams during the World Cup in South Africa 2010, the most proud
achievement of my career. It was incredible see my font worn in each match during the tournament.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE? was the question that we asked fifty New Yorkers one Wednesday in March of 2013. The wide
variety of answers came from bankers on Wall Street to first generation immigrants in the Bronx. Our goal was to
develop a project that blurs the lines between journalism and art, so we recorded these responses with our phone
and later used key words and phrases from the interviews as content for the lettering that you see on this wall.

Warner chappell, 200 years
Nick Bell Design, London
The London based designer Nick Bell invited 20 international artists to produce posters
to celebrate the 200 years of Warner Chappell. The A1 size posters have been handmade
produced and exposed at Stolen Space in London. A special book has been produced as well
and presented during the opening, it was a true honor to be one of the guest artists.

help the creative department with strong and powerful typography solutions to fit

Where ever you go, there you are. This project aligns maps from places that
have meaning for people and merges them in a way using typography. I am from
Brazil but i live in the Netherlands, so for me i would use Brazilian maps
layered with Dutch ones and use laser-cut typography to make a statement as
well as reveal a geographic layer of who i am as a person.

The visual research took me in many directions, such as biology books,
plastic skeletons, projection technics, handmade letterforms, classical
black & white photography and swiss design from the 60’s. My aim was to
bring the concept of “celebration of life” to reality.

Lemz in Amsterdam wanted a banana typeface for the new campaign for Chiquita. Since
most of the fonts inspired by bananas are crude, my aim was to take the typography quality to a whole new level. A deep “sketch” phase was needed, before any type
drawings or experimentation directly with real bananas could take place.
