A little history...
Fréhel, the village
centre
A busy village with several shops: bars,
a pharmacy, the tourist office, hairdressing
salons, a pork butcher’s, bakeries…
Many services are also available: medical
services, the Town hall, the local school
and community hall.
The cultural centre of the “Grande
Abbaye” leads you to the library which
is free and open to everyone, the cyber
centre, an exhibition hall and the day
care center turned into a leisure centre in
summer..
Pléhérel-Plage
The renovated Chapel of “Vieux Bourg”,
dating from the XIIIth century, is located
60 meters above sea level. This old
fishing village offers a beautiful secured
beach with fine sand and a scenic
view of Cap Fréhel. This crescentshaped beach called “Anse du Croc” is
protected on the west side by the cliffs
overlooking the old village’s church.
Sables d’Or les Pins
Sables d’Or les Pins, an atypical seaside
resort. The remarkable site of Sables
d’Or les Pins was discovered before
the First World War by Roland Brouard,
an estate agent from Saint-Malo.
The dream of Roland Brouard and his
friends was to turn Sables d’Or
les Pins into an ambitious modern
resort. That is how a large part of
Sables d’Or les Pins, which did not have
roads and remained isolated for
a long time, started to host horse

Enjoy the numerous walks along
peaceful, wide alleys, flowered valleys, or
the large family beach. Sables d’Or will
seduce you with its chapel, its 18 hole
golf course, 2 tennis courts, its casino,
its safe beach, its sailing school and
many restaurants which will introduce
you to the cuisine of our region.
Walk through the middle of Sables d’Or les Pins: 2h – 6 km.

Sables d’Or les Pins and Pléhérel-Plage
The beaches are supervised in July and August and accessible to disabled people.
Dogs and horses are forbidden on the beaches between 10 am and 7.00pm
from the 1 st July to the 31 st August.
Showers and public toilets are available on beaches.
Many activities are available : tennis,
horse riding, a surfing school, archery,
table tennis, a bowling green, mini-golf
and a wide variety of hiking possibilities
along the coastal path as well as in the
countryside.
Heritage walk : 2h – 6 km.
You can take the same route
by bike. The route is marked out
with yellow markings.

This is one of the 5 most powerful
French lighthouses. Open from April until
November and during school holidays.
Free tour for groups, on reservation.
This old feudal castle, built of pink
sandstone, is a magical and mythical place
and a witness to our rich past.
Its fortifications and drawbridge take you
back in time. Fort La Latte was turned into
a coastal defense fort between 1690 and
1715. It remains primarily a fortified castle.
The defense system dating
from 15th century has been kept.
The Castle of Bienassis is located only
11km away from the town centre of
Fréhel. This is a listed building (15th and
17th centuries). This complete seigniorial
mansion is still lived in today.

The Bay of la Fresnaye
La Carquois
At “Port à la Duc”, your gaze will irresistibly turn to the bay and its mysterious
aspects. Thanks to tides, the bay offers a fascinating show where you can observe
the vast area of mussels and oyster beds as well as a large number of birds,
especially from September to March : migratory and wintering birds.
This small hamlet of houses made
of pink sandstone was created at the
end of 19th century to house quarry
workers. Whether on foot, by bike or on
horseback, you will pass close to the golf
course, and a historical mansion with its
breathtaking view over the shore.
Stop by our local producers and enjoy oysters, with a slice of lemon, bread,
butter and a glass of white wine.

Shellfish gathering
Our coastline is alive with shellfish and
crustaceans: clams, cockles, wild mussels
and oysters, razor shells, winkles, crabs or
abalones can be found at low tide.
Tide times are available for free at the
Tourist Office.
Please be aware of legislation (restrictions,
minimum sizes). Ask for our brochure “A

the coastal footpath
The coastal path is designed for
pedestrians and is marked out in red
and white. It offers many choices to
start a good hike from the coast.
The peninsula of Fréhel
Plévenon-Cap Fréhel
covers 25 km.
In total safety discover magnificent
views over the peninsula (beaches,
dunes, heath, cliffs), thanks to a large
choice of signed walks from 6 to 22
kms and from 2 hours to 6.5 hours.
