Janet’s Comments
The Grandparent Resource Center’s
second annual Grandparents as Parents:
A Day for You conference was held last
month at the Barbara Weitz Community
Engagement Center on the University of
Nebraska at Omaha campus.
Topics addressed included legal issues,
positive behavioral supports, taking care
Janet Miller of yourself, and emotional health. There
was also an opportunity for open discussion about the challenges and rewards of raising grandchildren.
Humorist and guest speaker Mary Maxwell lightened up the
luncheon with her fun, wit, and humor.
The wonderful grilled chicken salad and a delicious roll lunch
was catered by Sgt. Peffer’s Italian Restaurant. Members of the
Grandparent Resource Center Advisory Committee provided
desserts and juices. Panera Bread donated the morning bagels.
Thanks to all the members of the Grandparent Advisory
Committee who diligently worked over the past year to plan
and organize this conference. Also thanks to the great volunteer support from some GRC members and friends as well as
ENOA’s SeniorHelp volunteer program.

Happy Halloween!
Happy Birthday
to all those celebrating a birthday in October.
Wishing you all best wishes on your special day.
It is a celebration of You!
Holiday Gifts
In order to participate in our annual Holiday gift program
you must have attended a minimum of 4 support group meetings
during the past year. Many of you have attended three meetings
so far and will still qualify for the holiday gift program if you
attend our October 15 meeting. If you are unsure of how many
meetings you have attended this year please give me a call.. I will
have the Christmas wish lists available at the October meeting
for those of you who will be able to participate this year. Considerations are being made for those of you who have jobs or
have had significant health issues during 2015.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Plan to attend the November 19th support group meeting as we will be serving a Thanksgiving dinner.
Be sure to dress up for the event as a photographer
will be taking individual pictures of each in attendance.
These photos will be developed and given to you prior to
Christmas. I will need your reservation for this meeting and
please be sure to attend if you have made a reservation.
There have been quite a few “no shows” for meetings
when you have made reservations. Remember, we are
purchasing your lunch and even when you do not attend we
must still pay for your meal. (put a finger with a ribbon tied around it for reminders)
Birthday closet
Who doesn’t enjoy getting a gift for their birthday? Well guess what, if your
grandchildren have a birthday coming up soon let GRC know about it and they can
receive a gift to celebrate that fun day.
The birthday closet is located here at ENOA, 4223 Center on the 3rd floor.
You must call and make arrangements with me so that you and the grandchildern
can pick out their gift. The ages for the birthday closet is age 1 – 12 years old you
have up to three days before their birthdays or three days after, no exceptions.
