Experiential Worship Worship & Devotion Rooted in Scripture A clearer message is sent when we focus: Worship, Sunday School, Children’s Time, Club Z, little z October 2: Are we building in love? . Bible Verse: We praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured on us because we belong to his beloved Son. Eph 1:6 Fall 2011 Song: Love, love, love, that’s what it’s all about… Activity: Every week each child received a cardboard block as we discussed all the things we build in the world and at church. Together we built a cardboard heart on the floor. Worship & Devotion Engaging the World Worship: It’s not just in the Sanctuary anymore! Practice seeing God in the world: God Sighting Bingo VBS music cds in the car year round. How about for Sunday School music? Club Z, little z Real Kids, Real Faith: Importance of having real conversations relating the Bible and faith with real life and things that matter in the world to kids right now. “Instead of using human development theories to focus on children’s deficiencies … we need to use this research to help us, as adults, understand how children can, in fact, be faithful.” Growing Faith Filled Families Families Together Rooted in Scripture Engaging the World Mission & Service Lisa Kipp Families Together Mission & Service Not just for teenagers anymore. Create opportunities for families to serve together. Love Your Neighbor Day: February 20, 2012 Family Mission Trip: Midwest Hunger Tour: August 22-25, 2012 Have intentional conversations with parents before and after they send their youth on mission trips. Rooted in Scripture Mission & Service Dr. David Lose suggests “making two inter-related shifts that will help us reclaim Scripture as God’s living and active Word: first moving from valuing the Bible for its information to valuing it for its capacity to make an invitation, and second transforming our viewing the Bible as history to receiving it as story” (David Lose, The Greatest Story Never Told: Engaging Christians of All Ages with the Bible, 3). Dwell in the Word together. Let the same text speak over and over. Jamaica Mission Trip: Luke 10:1-11, Jesus sends out his disciples MN Mission Blitz: Matthew 22:34-40, The greatest commandment Love Your Neighbor Day: Luke 10:25-37, The good Samaritan Reference Scripture as our story while serving and reflecting. Engaging the World Mission & Service In partnership with Zumbro’s Mission & Outreach Team. Being engaged in mission is about doing God’s work, not about feeling good about ourselves. Mission is not a trip or a youth activity, a silent cousin to evangelism, or an optional model of youth ministry. Mission is the business that congregations are in. Christ views young people as participants in God’s mission rather than as targets of ours. p97 We frequently say “the church has a mission,” according to missional theology a more correct statement would be ‘God’s mission has a church.” p90 Family Ministry Weekly E-Mail Update What does this mean for you?
