What it takes
to be a
champion...
Master Brian Killer ‘King of the Ring’ Kerr aka The Fireball
5th Degree Black Belt
Brian is a coach at Holy Trinity Youth Club in Belfast. Nothing rewards him more
than seeing his students achieve and succeed, be it a national competition,
or a single technique. He is extremely enthusiastic and dedicated to his class
100%. He is a qualified instructor and first aid trained. Not only will you get
expert tuition tailored to your own abilities, he is also commited to ensuring
safe training for everyone.
TaeKwonDo can focus on anything you wish, but Brian has been very
successful in Local, National and International championships winning
trophies and medals all over the world!
What made you choose
Taekwondo over other martial
arts and sports?
I always wanted to box because of
the Rocky films. But because I lived
so far from the local boxing club
I went to the local leisure centre
where I took up TaeKwonDo with
my brothers and sister.
When and where did you start
training and how old were you?
I began training in 1985 at the age
of 10 with my instructor then John
Cook in Knockmore TaeKwonDo
Club, Lisburn.
What is your favourite
technique?
Has got to be Bandae Dolyo Chagi.
Who have been the most
influential people in your life?
My dad, wife, friends and my kids.
What have been the most
memorable moments in your
competition career and why?
Winning Gold in the Brussels Open
- the feeling when I had to get up
in front of everyone and collect my
medal was amazing and nothing
has come close to that feeling
yet. Fighting people from different
countries provided me with my the
taste of international competitions.
What are your martial art goals
and ambitions?
To coach someone to World and
eventually Olympic Gold.
Who is you favourite player?
Hadi Saei from Iran. I think he is
naturaly talented but appreciate
how much work he has put in to
get where he is today and how
much hope and joy he brought his
country.

Training with
Master Bae
It was a pleasure to meet Master Bae at a joint BTCB(NI)/ITU kyorugi seminar
on Sunday 7th December 2008. The workshops covered all aspects in getting
better in the Olympic combat sporting side of Taekwondo. Master Bae comes
with an impressive CV. Being a former Korean National’s champion makes him
a world-class athlete. Added to this he is studying for a Phd in Sports Science
in England and is the team coach to the Korean Navy Taekwondo Team.
Master Bae started the class
discussing the importance of a
correct warm-up. This allows you to
perform to your optimum. Dynamic
stretching and limb motions are
what are needed.
Master Bae moved onto stepping
and how it should be applied to
avoiding getting hit as well as
closing into your opponent to score.
He covered attacking and counter
techniques that are being used
currently on the international stage.
Stressing the speed and power of
Taekwondo kicks he offered advice
on how to speed and strengthen
those kicks.
Just to reinforce this he was happy to
demonstrate a back kick on Brian Kerr!
It was very pleasing to receive an e-mail from Master Bae saying how much he enjoyed his visit to North Ireland.
We hope to see more of Master Bae in the near future.
