ROMEO SELECCION, MS—PASTOR Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Women's Cancer Support Group Meetings will be every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month. 4-6 pm ( JPII, 2nd Fl ) Cancer affects a person physically, emotionally, psychologically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. Many times it is difficult to share one’s feelings with family members or friends. This group provides an opportunity to share your feelings and experiences with others in a caring and safe environment. By your sharing and supporting one another it will help give you the courage to cope with your journey regardless of what type of cancer you have. Judy Nelson, 909-880-4389 Contact/Facilitator “I refuse to walk in the shadow of cancer and look forward to my future with hope, endurance, love, and laughter.” Judy Nelson, 02/08/08 The Floral Offering for The Feast of The Assumption 28 August 2016 Tagalog Corner— Luke 14:12-14 Si Jesus ay nagsabi rin sa nag-anyaya sa kaniya. (“When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”) Was gifted in honor of † Mary Boyens & The Heart of Mary If you have a loved one that you would like to remember for our next Feast Day please give Karen Hein a call at 909-987-9312 Ext. 230 Welcome to our God-Sent Ministry “How God Moves Many” Are you seeking a place to share your heart as you journey through the care giving of a loved one? Please join us! Adult Confirmation & Ongoing Faith Formation To be fully initiated into our Catholic Faith, it is necessary for a person to have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Often, because of various life circumstances, a baptized Catholic may not have had the opportunity to complete this initiation process during the usual elementary and high school years. Now, as an adult Catholic, this person may have little understanding of our Catholic Faith or what it means to live a Catholic life. In our Adult Confirmation classes, our focus is to provide an adult understanding of the basic teachings of our Catholic Faith so that a baptized Catholic can meaningfully prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation – and the sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion), if necessary, to complete sacramental Initiation. However, our sessions are always open to any adults who would like an updated understanding of the teachings of our Church, even if there is no need to prepare for sacraments. We will address those serious questions about being Catholic that sometimes come to mind – questions for which some may not have answers or the means to find those answers. It is both a privilege and a challenge to live as a Catholic Christian in a world that seems to have little focus on God; prayer and spirituality; Christian moral values; and responsibility for and to others, as Christ would have us do. It is so important that we understand our adult commitment to live out our Baptismal call to serve in the name of Christ and to live as active disciples of Jesus, who calls to each of us, “Come and follow me.” All adults are welcome to join us for education and formation in our Catholic Faith and to learn more about what it means to truly live as Catholic Christians in our world today. Our sessions meet on Thursday evenings (September thru June) beginning Sept. 15th-7-9pm in the Religious Education area of the John Paul II For further information, please call Mary Ann Andel, Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation at 987-9312 x 250. "As in the days of Bethlehem the Father imparted the shadows and rights of the blessed paternity mysteriously to Mary and Joseph, and thus made the region of Infancy so glorious and heaven-like, in like manner now he will not leave us without similar consolations. He imparts them to his priests in their relationship to our souls, and, above all, in respect to the Blessed Sacrament. It is part of our Father's love that inside the pale of the Church earth should be one perpetual, and even ubiquitous, Bethlehem. The infant Jesus, the joy of the Father and our joy, is forever there, and in him the Father declared, with rare expletive, that he was well pleased. Still on the altar and in the tabernacle the Babe of Bethlehem is increasing the glory of the Father," - from the book "Bethlehem", by Fr. Faber The New Evangelization … made easy! It begins with an awareness...or stirring in one’s heart for something more. It could be a curiosity or a sense of long for fulfillment. The RCIA process offers an opportunity for you to learn and ask questions about the Catholic faith. It is primarily for the un-baptized, but also includes a special tract for those baptized in another faith tradition. The four distinguishing characteristics of the Catholic Church which we declare to be the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ. The marks are: One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. One - consists in the members professing the same Faith in communion with the Pope; the faith may be expressed through various ways of worship, but the faith is one. Holy - consists in the sanctity of the members which flows from the holiness of Jesus Christ. Catholic - consists in the universality of the Church whereby all persons are called to be members. Apostolic - consists in the Church being founded by Jesus Christ through the Apostles and being true to their spirit of fidelity to Christ. These marks have been a part of our Tradition since the very early church and are professed in the “Nicene Creed” every Sunday at Mass. Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sickness. This sickness may be physical, mental or emotional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Unfortunately, many still refer to this Sacrament as the “Last Rites” and often call the parish for a priest when an individual is critical and close to end of life. The Church has not used the term “Last Rites” since the Vatican II Council; asking the faithful to call for a priest when in the need of Healing. One of the realities of the Church today is a priest shortage. If a call is made to the Church for the Sacrament, when someone is close to the end of life, there might not be enough time for a priest to reach the person prior to them passing away, or a priest might not be available, at that important moment. Only a priest can offer the Sacrament of the Sick. A Deacon is not permitted to administer the rite of this Sacrament because it includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”. May this be a reminder to take advantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church ~ For Sacrament of the Sick … Please contact the Parish Office at 909-987-9312 During hours the office is closed, call 909-532-3312 for Emergencies Ministry to the Homebound, Sick & Elderly Our Liturgy and celebration of the Eucharist continues after Mass, as our Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend Mass with the Community. Trained and commissioned lay persons serve Holy Communion to those confined to their homes, facilities or hospitals. Our Ministers have a compassionate ear to listen, provide spiritual support and prayer. If you are unable to attend Mass and are in need of a Homebound Minister, or if you are aware of a parishioner who would like to receive Holy Communion, contact Debby Leonardo to arrange for weekly visits from our Homebound Ministry. To serve as a Sick & Homebound Minister, please contact Debby Leonardo, Pastoral Care, at 909-987-9312 x 302, for more information. Military Photo Update If you have a family member actively serving our country and would like their picture included in the Military Frame of our Soldiers honoring our Men and Women for their service; please bring a photo of your Soldier to the Parish Office and fill out the Military Personnel Information Form. The Military information consists of their rank, stationed location, branch of service, address of soldier, along with Parish family contact. These photos provide the community with recognition of those parishioners and family members serving in the military. Many of our parishioners will keep the names and faces in their hearts and prayers, along with all of our Military Men and Women serving our country. Prayer is essential to a thriving faith, yet we often feel as if we’re talking to ourselves. Or worse, like we’re talking to no one at all. How can something so vital to the faith be so elusive? Kelly Burt Laura Onopa Annie Valtier Ext. 235 Ext. 245 Ext. 234 The answers are here. Renowned teacher Dr. Tim Gray masterfully uses the Church’s tradition of lectio divina to show us the simple steps for making prayer a conversation of love and intimacy with God. Prayer: Finding Intimacy with God captures in 6 sessions the secret to opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear God and then respond in conversation – basking in His presence and resolving to live in and through His love. Materials fee per participant/couple sharing is $25, payable at the first class attended, and includes a thorough study guide. The same session is offered at 2 different times each Wednesday: Wednesday mornings 9:00 – 10:30 AM (upstairs JPII) Wednesday evenings 7:00 – 8:30 PM (upstairs JPII) Sept. 14 - Prayer: An Intimate Dialogue Sept. 21 – Guigo’s Ladder: A Way of Ascent Sept. 28 – Lectio & Meditatio: Climbing the First Rungs Oct. 05 – Oratio: Conversation with God Oct. 12 – Contemplatio: The Gaze of Love Oct. 19 – Resolution: Putting Love into Action For questions or to register, contact Jenny Campbell at 909-987-9312.
