1866 wurden auf einem Infoblatt der Wiener Bugholzmöbelfabrikanten Gebrüder Thonet erstmals Möbel
speziell für Kinder in Serienproduktion angeboten. In
den folgenden Jahrzehnten folgten weitere Modelle und
wurden zu einem wichtigen Segment in der Produktpalette der Bugholzmöbelindustrie. 5

manufacturer Gebrüder Thonet, furniture especially for
children in batch production was offered for the first time.
In the next decades other such models followed and became
a significant segment of the array of products from the
bentwood furniture industry. 5
Im ersten Jahrzehnt des 19. Jahrhunderts zählte man in Wien ca. 2.000
Schneider; dennoch war im Jahre 1813
in Wien kein Schneider zu finden, es
gab nur noch “Kleidermacher”. 4
In the first decade of the 19th century, there
were around 2,000 tailors in Vienna. Yet
in 1813 not a single tailor could be found:
now there were only ‘garment makers’. 4
The tailor Josef Fitzenthaler developed the
first cutting system based on anatomical and
mathematical principles. He was called the
‘anatomical tailor’ or the ‘mathematical body
beautifier.’ 1

Erfolg erlebte er leider nicht mehr. Madersperger
wurde im Armengrab auf dem Sankt Marxer Friedhof

Der vierte guided for fashion & design erscheint
passend zum Frühlingserwachen in Wien. Alles sprießt
und gedeiht und auch das neue guided erstrahlt in
frischem pastellfarbenem Kleid. Diesmal haben wir neben spannenden Shop-Neuentdeckungen ein bisschen
in der Stadtgeschichte Wiens gestöbert. Was macht die
Stadt aus, was prägte sie? Einige skurrile Storys und
spannende Fakten rund um Wien möchten wir euch
nicht vorenthalten.
The fourth edition of guided for fashion & design is
coming out just as spring awakens in Vienna. Everything
is sprouting and growing, and the new guide is suitably
radiant in its fresh pastel colours. This time, in addition
to exciting new shop discoveries, we have delved a bit
into the history of Vienna. What makes the city what it
is, and what have been some of the determining influences? We also want to let you in on some odd stories
and fascinating facts about Vienna.
Was wir im aktuellen Heft aus der Historie grafisch
aufgegriffen haben, sind die um 1862 festgelegten Umrandungsfarben der Hausnummerntafeln. Jeder Bezirk
bekam damals eine spezielle Farbe, und da guided für
eine vielfältige Mischung aus Designshops, Modeläden
und gastronomischen Highlights steht, passt der bunte
Mix, wie wir meinen, sehr gut zu uns.
What we have visually borrowed from history in the
current guide are the border colours of the house
number plates as they were instituted around 1862.
Each district had its own special colour; and since
guided represents a diverse mixture of design and
fashion shops, as well as gastronomic highlights, the
colourful combination seems just right to us.

Die drei Geschwister Esca betreiben im Erdgeschoss ihres Grafikbüros einen Shop, in dem sich ihre

Biorama, the magazine for a sustainable
lifestyle, is staging its third fair inside and
in front of the MuseumsQuartier Wien.
Over 50 brands will present their products
in Arena21 and the Oval Hall and offer
them for direct sale. Small pop-up stores
will be exhibiting new domestic labels
and European brands focusing on fairly
produced raw materials or recycled and
upcycled used articles. There will also be a
giant food market, a joint effort with the
Adamah BioHof, in the open area in front
of the mq, with stands offering culinary
delights for now or food items to take

the deck chairs and a dj line-up on the

1866 wurden auf einem Infoblatt der Wiener Bugholzmöbelfabrikanten Gebrüder Thonet erstmals Möbel
speziell für Kinder in Serienproduktion angeboten. In
den folgenden Jahrzehnten folgten weitere Modelle und
wurden zu einem wichtigen Segment in der Produktpalette der Bugholzmöbelindustrie. 5
In an 1866 info sheet from the Vienna bentwood furniture
manufacturer Gebrüder Thonet, furniture especially for
children in batch production was offered for the first time.
In the next decades other such models followed and became
a significant segment of the array of products from the
bentwood furniture industry. 5
Im ersten Jahrzehnt des 19. Jahrhunderts zählte man in Wien ca. 2.000
Schneider; dennoch war im Jahre 1813
in Wien kein Schneider zu finden, es
gab nur noch “Kleidermacher”. 4
In the first decade of the 19th century, there
were around 2,000 tailors in Vienna. Yet
in 1813 not a single tailor could be found:
now there were only ‘garment makers’. 4
The tailor Josef Fitzenthaler developed the
first cutting system based on anatomical and
mathematical principles. He was called the
‘anatomical tailor’ or the ‘mathematical body
beautifier.’ 1

famous by Empress Elisabeth which is still served

the first waterproof mascara in

Veilcheneis ist eine österreichische Eisspezialität,
die durch Kaiserin Elisabeth Berühmtheit erlangte
und auch heute noch in traditionellen Wiener Cafés
angeboten wird. 3
1808 wird die erste Nähmaschine vom Schneidergesellen Josef Madersperger in Wien erfunden. Ihren
Erfolg erlebte er leider nicht mehr. Madersperger
wurde im Armengrab auf dem Sankt Marxer Friedhof
in Wien bestattet. 2
In 1808 the first sewing machine
was invented in Vienna by tailor
journeyman Josef Madersperger.
Unfortunately he did not live
to experience its success. He was
buried in a pauper’s grave in
St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna. 2
