The trailer should be delivered soon but there is still a lot of work to get it ready for service. There have been so many that have put in a lot of hours up to this point before the swap meet begins. It takes all of us to pull this off successfully. The Schulenburg cruise was great! For those that drove the entire length, it was a long day. I’d like to give Fred, Doyle and Marilyn a big Thank You for the work they put into it. The only problem I know of was Fred, running out of gas in his driveway. I should be starting on my shop very soon. Since this will probably be the last one I’ll have, I’ve put a lot of thought into what I want. One of the big issues to deal with is permits and codes since I live in the city limits now. However I have learned a trick to deal with the problem of a span over 24 foot and not have to have an engineered slab or building. I also want to have my floor coated before I occupy the shop or it may never get done. So much to do so little time (or energy) to get things done. Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible during the swap meet or at the many events that are coming up. As usual the weekends this time of year have multiple events so we get spread out. The main thing is that you get your car out and enjoy the cars and the great people we meet. Another big item we are moving forward on is doing something with the scholarship funds we have to provide a perpetual fund. If you have any questions, please contact any officer or board members. We can pass them on to Britt King. SEE YA DOWN THE ROAD STEVE P.S. Another late but short newsletter. Too many irons in too many fires. By the way, it was soooo exciting to see Jan Cobb at the April Club Meeting!! This is one of my favorite things our club does, the SWAP MEET. It is a lot of work but I also think it is a lot of fun. So much to look at and so many people to talk to! See you there. Cindy NEW BRAUNFELS AREA C AR CLUB PAGE 4 NBACC Minutes April 6th, 2014 The April meeting of the New Braunfels Area Car Club was called to order by President Steve Hair. Steve introduced Brit King, representing the New Braunfels Area Community Fund. Brit gave an informative presentation outlining how his group could help the car club set up a perpetual scholarship fund. At the conclusion of his presentation, a motion was made and seconded by Larry Taylor and Jim Koenig to pursue the establishment of a perpetual scholarship through this venue. The motion was passed by the attendance of 49 members. Steve directed the club scholarship committee and the board of directors to develop the language of the scholarship criteria and contract. The March minutes were approved on motions made and seconded by Jan Stull and Larry Taylor. Marcia Hodgkins, club treasurer, gave the treasurer's report, which was approved on motions from Mike Haas and Hank Hodgkins. Jo Basey, Care Committee Chair, reported that Larry Paul's father had passed. It was also noted that Hank Hodgkins had received good news following a recent cancer scare, and that Jan Cobb, who had not been in attendance for some time, was present today. Mike Haas updated the group on the Swap Meet. He thanked the group that had helped lay out spaces on the previous day. He reported that all arrangements are going according to schedule, and that the new headquarters trailer should be arriving within the next couple of days. Ken Voss is currently constructing interior cabinetry which will be installed when the trailer arrives as well as other modifications. Doyle Marshall asked for more Headquarters volunteers, and also for volunteers to help Marilyn Marshall with kenneling dogs that are illegally brought onto fairgrounds property. Mike reminded all workers to get worker passes. Ken Voss reminded the group that he needs a count for the worker barbeque on Saturday night. In new business, Cindy Hair announced a car show at New Braunfels High School on May third, and also a car show in Llano. She reminded the group to check the newsletter. She also reminded the group that Swap Meet T-shirts that had been ordered previously were available for pick up. Marilyn Marshall reported on the Schulenburg tour which occurred on March 22nd. The tour was attended by 44 members and their families. Steve also announced several upcoming events including the Bluebonnet Festival in La Vernia and the “Cruise the Comal” sponsored by the New Braunfels High School Band. Also upcoming is the Seguin Kiwanis FlapJack Jamboree on April 26th. Proceeds from this event will go toward the restoration of an antique fire truck housed at the Seguin Fire Department Museum. On motions by John Blacketer and Jim Koenig, the group voted to donate $500.00 toward this cause. Doyle Marshall announced that Doug Setzer, new owner of the New Braunfels Sears Store, and regular trophy sponsor at the Swap Meet Car Show, has asked that the club show cars for the grand opening of the New Braunfels store on April 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided, as well as possible “good deals” on Sears merchandise. Marcia Hodgkins announced that the club now has 159 official members and reminded the group to submit volunteer hours. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted by Marilyn Marshall, NBACC Secretary PAGE 5 NEW BRAUNFELS AREA C AR CLUB NEW BRAUNFELS AREA C AR CLUB PAGE 6 BIG THANKS We would like to thank you for all your hard work in making the Schulenburg tour a successful event. It's nice to know that you have an inside track to Mother Nature, and were able to convince her to provide us with wonderful day. We enjoyed the fellowship, food, museum, and a glimpse of Texas that we had never seen before. Those that cancelled missed out on the very essence of what car clubs are all about. Again Thanks, Charlie & Cathie McFarren There has been a change in the date for the "Show and Shine" scheduled for the grand opening of the New Braunfels Sears store. Originally scheduled for Friday, April 25th, the owner has asked if we can bring our cars on Saturday, the 26th, as KONO Radio has agreed to do a mobile broadcast from the store on that day--our cars and Oldies music should make for some good chemistry! The time is still 10:00 a.m. to 2:00. The store is "almost" on the corner of FM 725 and Business 81 (Elliot Knox Blvd) right next to Jack In the Box--in fact Doug Setzer (the new NB Sears owner) is trying to arrange for parking around the Jack in the Box fountain. Doug (owner of the Seguin Sears also), has regularly sponsored trophies at our swap meet car show, so Iet's have a good turnout and show him our support. Lunch will be provided and there may be some good deals in the works for us! Finally, a proven use for pennies!!!!! The $383.00 Paint Job And it won't scratch. 1949 Cadillac, Completely Covered With 38,295 Pennies!
