Reilly Sunday, April 10 10:00 John Harrigan Monday, April 11 06:45 Elizabeth Nolan O’Donnell Tuesday, April 12 06:45 Sister Margarita Molloy Wednesday, April 13 06:45 Mr. & Mrs. James McAneney Thursday, April 14 06:45 Matthew Wilson Friday, April 15 06:45 Bet and Ted White Saturday, April 16 04:30 Anna & Louis DeJohn “But Peter and the apostles said in reply ‘We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.’ So they left the Sanhedrin rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.” First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 The high priest chastised Peter and the other apostles for continuing to preach when they had been ordered to stop. Peter replied he would rather obey God than men, considering God's power even over death. They are again warned to stop speaking of Jesus, and then freed. THEME: Every Sunday of this Easter season gives us an opportunity to contemplate, along with our neophytes, the mystery of Christ’s resurrection. Everywhere we turn in today’s readings we find signs of God’s abundant life and forgiveness. The early church proclaims the Good News. The apostles catch a large number of fish. Peter is forgiven. Let us celebrate this day by recalling signs of Resurrection life in our world and in our own lives today. How amazing that in such a short time following Peter’s denial, he boldly proclaimed his faith before the very same authority. He had no trouble stating that he and his companions were witnesses of the grace of the paschal mystery. The Easter time is most appropriate for all to consider what it means to be a witness and how we can make this same mystery relevant to our needy world. We remind ourselves of the basic steps. We have an encounter with the Risen Christ, through the scriptures, a special event, through one of His ministers. We are drawn to form a relationship with Him through prayer. This leads us to become like Peter, knowing the Christ and then willingly speak of Him, and His role in our lives. Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of receiving power, glory and praise. Then every creature on earth called out praise to God and the Lamb, and the elders fell down and worshipped. Gospel: John 21:1-19 Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish. Jesus then asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?" When Peter said he did, Jesus asked him to tend and feed his sheep. Consider for a moment. What if Peter’s talk had not been recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. What if he had failed to answer the question posed by Jesus – ‘Peter do you love me?’ Peter indicated he was a witness. Am I? This is the only fundraiser the parish has each year. “Instead of being just a church that welcomes and receives by keeping the doors open, let us try to be a church that finds new roads, that is able to step outside itself and go to those who do not attend Mass, to those who have quit or are indifferent.” Pope Francis “The confessional is not a torture chamber, but the place in which the Lord’s mercy motivates us to do better.” Pope Francis Are you a musician? Do you play guitar or some other instrument? Please let Father Domenic know; he would like to discuss some possibilities for expanding our parish music ministry. Consider Online Giving – An Easy Way to Support Our Parish An easy way to make your regular contribution online has been set up through a link on our parish website: www.stgabrielrcparish.org Just click on the OnLine Giving link and you can arrange for a regular transfer from your bank account directly to the parish bank account. It is easy and totally secure. It is like automatically paying your utility bill from your bank account. All you need is your account number and your bank routing number. Make sure you double check your number as you type it in (it is easy to accidentally invert two numbers). We are not set up to accept credit card donation, only bank-to-bank transactions. It is very helpful if you could put your envelope number in the designated box – it makes it much easier for us to keep record of your contribution. You can arrange for a monthly, or weekly, or a one-time contribution. This makes it very easy to support our parish even when you are on vacation. You can make changes or discontinue this at any time. A record of your giving can be supplied to you whenever you like. DAN PARRILLO MEMORAIL SCHOLARSHIP: Congratulations to Kaitlin Dwyer, our 8th grade student. She is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship toward her high school tuition.
