Parents registered with our Blackboard Connect mass notification emergency
contact system will be notified of school closings, due to inclement weather or
other emergency situations, via phone call and/or email. Parents are asked at
the beginning of each school year to complete an Emergency Information Card
for each child currently attending school in our district. It is important that this
information, which includes phone numbers and email addresses, is kept current
as Blackboard Connect is the District’s primary tool for parent communication.
You can update your information at any time by contacting the secretary at your
child’s school.
Weather Make Up Days
Once we exceed four adverse weather condition days, weather make-up days
will be taken in the following order:
April 13, 12, 10 , February 24, 23, 22, 21. (all in 2017)

Dear Clarkstown Parents and Community Members:
It is a privilege and honor to be the new Superintendent of Schools for the
Clarkstown Central School District.
I believe that strong professional relationships within a district are vital and
are the basis of a firm foundation for effective instruction that meets the
needs of all students. With this in mind, I have utilized my first two months
as Superintendent to reach out to CCSD staff and community leaders to
establish professional relationships, gain an understanding of systems
and structures already in place and to learn more about the people in our
district and the families in our community.
The conversations have been insightful and underscore the strength of
a school district and a community working together for one common
goal, the education of our youth. I will be working with administrators to
carefully consider all of the feedback I have received and use it to create a
shared vision for the District that we can all take pride in.
During the school year, I welcome the opportunity to create professional
partnerships with you as well, while making decisions that are in the best
interest of our students. I look forward to seeing you in our schools and at
student events, PTA sessions, district and board meetings as well as other
venues.
I have also been working closely with our principals and administrators to
ready our schools for the upcoming year. The year ahead will be filled with
exploration and learning opportunities for our students, and I am excited
for all its potential.
Let’s celebrate the success of our students and members of the school
community while working as partners in education.
Make it a great day!
Mr. Martin D. Cox, Superintendent of Schools
»» Our Mission
The Clarkstown Central School District, in a mutually respectful
partnership with the community and within a secure, caring
environment, will meet the unique needs of its students and motivate
and enable them to be life-long learners and productive, ethical
contributors to an ever-changing global society.

GRAD-Nite
GRAD-Nite is a late-night, alcohol, tobacco and drug-free chaperoned
celebration open to all graduating seniors on the night of graduation.
Understanding that graduates often “party hop” in an effort to celebrate with
as many classmates as possible, GRAD-Nite was created to provide a safe
alternative while allowing the students a final opportunity to be together as a
class. Most importantly, GRAD Nite keeps ALL of the participating graduates off
the roads, preventing them from becoming an accident statistic and allowing
their parents to rest easy knowing their sons/daughters are celebrating safely.
GRAD-Nite is a parent-sponsored event, coordinated by an independent group
of volunteers and supported by the Clarkstown Central School District, the
North and South PTSAs, the parents of the graduates along with community
members and local businesses.

seniors who received special education services, and the teachers and aides
who made a difference in the lives of our children. We hope that you will

Student Privacy

District Policy #5550, Student Privacy, provides detailed information on The
Board of Education’s responsibility to enact policies that protect student
privacy in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This is particularly
relevant in the context of the administration of surveys that collect personal
information, the disclosure of personal information for marketing purposes and
in conducting physical exams. For a comprehensive overview of the District’s
student privacy protections, please see District Policy #5550.
Transportation
www.ccsd.edu/Transportation
CCSD’s Transportation Department is responsible for safely transporting over 8,000
students daily to 65 different school locations. CCSD maintains its own fleet of 130

Operation Safe-STOP
Motorists are the second-leading cause of student transportation fatalities.
Last year, numerous students were hit by passing motorists in New York State.
Estimates are that more than 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York

between police and local school districts to prevent accidents to school
children. Their goal is to send a public awareness message about safe driving
when school buses are on the road.

emergency situations. Each also has an active school safety team to coordinate
school safety training and to address and identify an issues at the local level.
Students and staff participate in safety drills throughout the year including fire,
