26 Annual th 2015 American Boxer Top Twenty 2014 Top 20 Winner GCH Brisbane ‘N’ Blue Monday‘s Diamonds are Decadant “Suri” Handled by Kim Calvacca Judges: Warren Hudson, Phillip Koenig and Vickie Seiler WELCOME…TO OUR PARTY! Please join us for the 26 American Boxer Top Twenty and enjoy the top Boxers of 2014 and the past winners from 2006! th Enjoy! 1 Each year the American Boxer Top Twenty presents the top twenty Boxers of the past year so you have a chance to compare them at the same time in the same ring. They are judged by three judges…a Multi Breed Judge, a Breeder Judge and a Handler Judge. This is a unique opportunity. Tonight is our 26th year and we are delighted to show you the finest of our breed. In addition, since past winners cannot compete, we are presenting past Top Twenty Winners from 2006 in the ring for Exhibition. Enjoy the chance to see them all over again! Chairman Loretta Parolisi has done her usual careful job to be sure that tonight’s show offers each entrant their best opportunity to shine. The Production Committee, headed by Cheryl Robbins has done an outstanding job of being sure each dog enters the ring surrounded by beauty and personalized by allowing each dog to have their own personal song. Thanks to the tireless work of Dr. Larry Dosier, every pedigree has been updated to include changes that surprised and delighted some owners. Phillip Koenig has again made this evening, and ABC Week, glorious with lovely displays of fresh flowers. What other dog show has fresh flowers? There are too many people to mention who volunteer to help make this evening memorable to those attending and those who are competing and exhibiting. We thank each and every one of them. Now we invite you to sit back and enjoy the show! BREHO FORTUITY SHARED TREASURE “Millee” Terri, June & I are so very proud of our sweet girl “Millee”! The first time she walked into show ring at just over 7 mos. old & won Grand Sweeps & Reserve to 2 majors, we knew she was going to be fun! She was 1st in her 6-9 Futurity class at ABC 2011 & Reserve puppy and won her regular class. She finished her Championship from the BBX class at barely 9 months of age with 4 majors, & at 9 ½ months, in her first show as a Special, won an All-Breed Best in Show, the youngest Boxer in the history of the Breed to do so. This was her first of several, as well as multiple BISS wins, and a Reserve BIS. She finished her GCH at under 11 months of age. When Millee was15 months old, she and Terri were invited to the 2011 AKC Eukanuba Classic Show in Orlando, where she received an Award of Excellence & Best Bred by Exhibitor Boxer. She went on to win the BBX Working Group. She along with two other Breho bred Boxers had already won Best in Eukanuba Breeders' Stakes in San Antonio, progressing from there to the finals in Orlando where she won the Breeders' Stakes Working Group and was also the Eukanuba North American Breeders' Stakes Champion for 2011. She was a joy to watch! Terri took Millee to many Breed and Group wins and placements along the way to her Platinum Grand Championship which she earned almost on her 4th Birthday! She was only the 3rd Boxer at the time to achieve that Platinum Level. Millee has been a Top Twenty Boxer in 2012, 2013 & 2014. She thrilled us by winning the Top Twenty her very first year to compete! She was bred in October 2014 and not shown the last couple of months, but still finished the year at #10 Boxer, #10 All Breed Boxer and #6 In GCH points. She produced 4 beautiful puppies in mid-December and they are nominated for the 2016 Futurity. She has now started Obedience/Rally training and is glad to do almost anything for a treat! We are truly thankful to be back for another Exhibition run around this beautiful Top Twenty ring! Thank you for allowing us to share the night with the Best of the Best! Thank you Terri Galle for making dreams come true that I had never even dared to dream! Our Millee has indeed been a Shared Treasure!!!!! Best of luck to the contenders this year! What can one say about this beautiful girl? She is the epitome of feminine perfection in a Boxer! We are thrilled with her accomplishments and the wins that were bestowed upon her. In 2014 she achieved the Number One Boxer All Breeds, number Four Working Dog and Top Boxer in the country. These Wins included the American Boxer Club National Specialty, the Westminster Kennel Club and 21 other Specialty Best In Shows (her current total is 28.) She took the Regional by storm with three Specialties and two All-Breed BOB's and topped it off with a Group First. She has been appreciated and awarded Specialty Bests by ALL of the Breeder judges that she was exhibited too. And for that we are greatly appreciative, as it reconfirms the Pedigree she descends from and the promise we saw in her as puppy. Her lineage comes from generations of National Specialty winners on both sides of her pedigree from three time ABC Ch. Wagner Wilverday “Famous Amos,” three time ABC winner Ch. Hi-Tech’s Johnny J of Boxerton ,Ch. Hi-Techs Arbitrage, Ch. Berenas Gemini Spashdown, Ch. Heldenbrand’s Jet Breaker and Ch. Kreyons Firebrand. That’s 11 ABC National Winners in one pedigree! She comes downline from 6 generations of Sire of Merits. From Ch. Fiero’s Tally Ho Tailo—to Ch. Hi-Tech’s Artibrage “Biff” to Ch. Hi-Tech’s Aristocrat “Rex”--to Ch. When the judges first see each dog, they must score it according to an Average Placement Scale of 1 – 10 before it is judged. In other words, the judge must look at the dog on the whole and score it on that scale, with a score of 10 meaning that, as a first impression, the dog appears to be in perfect harmony with the judge’s picture of the “ideal” Boxer. In the event of a tie, this score shall be used as a determining factor to break the tie. 2. Then, the dogs are scored individually by each of the three judges, using the Top Twenty Boxer Point Schedule which is derived from the Standard. When a judge examines an individual dog and compares it mentally to their own picture of the “ideal,” that judge is going through an evaluation process. The Top Twenty Boxer Point Schedule adds the assignment of numerical values to this evaluation and it demands that the judge indicate wherein penalties are assessed for less than the ideal. Since the scores are posted, each judge goes on record, part by part, when they score the dog. This “hands-on” scoring is far more time consuming than the comparison judging that we are used to. After all, these are our Top Twenty Boxers and they are all competing for the top spot! This type of judging exacts strong discipline on the part of each judge. A fault that seems to stand out to one particular judge might not to the others, thereby, reducing the impact of the idiosyncrasies of individual judges. While in the ring, judges may only confer with the stewards regarding judging procedures. 3. The winner will be determined on the basis of the averaged total scores of each dog and the signed score sheets will be publicly posted following the Show. 20 21 ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ TOTAL ___________ HEAD Muzzle, skull, proportion, eyes (shape, color, proportion) expression, ears, nose, bite .........................................................30 BODY Neck, shoulders (blend into toppling) topline (withers to croup), croup and tail set, chest, brisket, rib spring & loins, back, tuckup........................................................................................................................10 FOREQUARTERS-HINDQUARTERS Upper arm, legs feet, stifle & metatarsus ...............................................................................................................................10 GAIT Front, rear, side (reach & drive ................................................................................................................................................10 CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT Alertness, animation, intelligence (reaction to handler and judges) .....................................................................................15 Possible Total 100 Judge’s Signature ________________________________ ___________ Points Awarded GENERAL APPEARANCE Maximum points Balance, style, coat color and markings (as they affect overall appearance) Overall size, proportion and substance .................................................................................................................................25 Schedule of points for evaluation of individual dogs in accordance with Standard: Points assigned to each section shall be whole numbers... no fractions are permitted. DOG # __________ BOXER POINT SCHEDULE FOR TOP TWENTY MULTI BREED JUDGE Picture David W Haddock A native of Wichita, Kansas, David obtained his first purebred dog in the 1970’s, during which time he owner-handled an Alaskan Malamute to an obedience title and conformation championship. He later acquired Portuguese Water Dogs, handling one of the first PWDs to achieve both Breed Championship and Utility Dog titles. He is a former board member of the PWD parent club and has authored several canine articles that have appeared in national publications. David and his family have also owned and exhibited Border Terriers, Parson Russell Terriers, Havanese, Chihuahuas, Toy Fox Terriers, Whippets, and Samoyeds. David is the past President of the Nashville Dog Training Club, where he was instrumental in developing multiple venues for canine performance. During his tenure, the club gained national recognition for its semiannual 4-day agility trials and multiple venues for obedience, rally, tracking, and lure coursing. He is also a member of the Nashville Kennel Club, Santa Barbara Kennel Club, Westchester Kennel Club, and the Westminster Kennel Club, where he serves on the Board of Governors and the Dog Show Committee. David is a nationally recognized obedience judge, having adjudicated at over 475 trials in 40+ states. He is also approved for all breeds within the Working Group. David is a graduate of Washington & Lee University (BA, 1983) and Columbia University (MBA, 1987). He was a founding partner and executive in multiple start-ups and early stage businesses, including Windy Hill Pet Food, a roll-up ultimately acquired by Mars Pedigree. He has worked internationally as a pet industry consultant, and has owned and managed several niche brands within the industry. 22 BREEDER JUDGE Picture Sydney Brown My life with Boxers began while living in Ohau, Hawaii with the purchase of a nine month old fawn Boxer bitch in 1953. From then until 1984 I owned four more Boxers. I had my first litter in 1961 and my second in August, 1987. After the loss of my fifth Boxer, my husband Douglas and I went to the Cayman Islands. We decided to name our next Boxer “Cayman” which became our kennel name. Thanks to Duana Young of Doggone Boxers, in January of 1985, a seven week old brindle bitch entered our lives. She soon became Ch. El Sirrah’s Cayman Gold, DOM. Cayman finished young, receiving many Best of Breed and Group placements and was never defeated in the Veteran class. Her first litter, born in August, 1987 produced four U.S. Champions and a DOM. Her second litter produced one U. S. Champion, another DOM and a Canadian Champion who also became a DOM. Cayman was the foundation of Cayman Boxers. Only breeding when we wanted a puppy (we usually kept two) we have bred twenty-three U.S. Champions, three Canadian Champions, one Grand Brazilian Pan American Champion, two SOMs, 2 DOMs, one Canadian DOM and five Top Twenty contenders with our Ch. Cayman’s Black Bart SOM winning the Top Twenty in 1995. To date we have three littermates from our last litter of ten, born five years ago and they are a handful! I feel honored and privileged to be asked by the Top Twenty committee to judge the American Boxer Top Twenty. I am truly looking forward to it. 23 HANDLER JUDGE Picture Amy Bieri I started out in the breed when I was 22 years old rescuing a young fawn, black masked male boxer I called Rex. He was a very dominant dog with some major behavioral issues. He was people aggressive and bit three trainers in our rehabilitation process. I was told by our third trainer that she recommended Rex be euthanized. I wasn't about to give up for I had grown fond of this dog so I was determined to make him into my lovable pet. We worked with a fourth trainer who helped me break thru Rex's issues. We did a combination of obedience and agility to teach Rex control, focus and fun. The training was successful! Rex passed away at approximately 15 years of age and I owned and loved him for 14 of those years. I continue to rescue and love the breed to this day thanks to Rex. I have bred and shown boxers since 1998 with the kennel name Happy Tail's Ranch. I have owned and bred over 50 American champions, three Top Twenty contenders, two Best in Show winners, a Regional Winners Bitch, a Sire of Merit and a Dam of Merit. I put multiple obedience and agility titles on my boxers throughout the years. I enjoy doing so much with the breed and appreciate what the breed has done for me. On New Year's Day 2010, we were blessed with a beautiful litter sire by Ch. Illyrian's Trilogy, "Auggie", out of our beautiful girl Am/Mex GCH DLG's Rainbow's End DOM, "Rainbow". The last of six fawn puppies was a flashy fawn boy who took our breath away from the minute he arrived. From that day on, Hudson has exceeded all of our expectations, our hopes and dreams and his unconditional love for his family. He has captivated many judges and fellow breeders alike with his solid effortless movement, true breed type and his elegant ring presence. With limited showing, Hudson is a Reserve Best in Show winner, Multiple Group winner, Multiple BISS Winner, Multiple Breed winner and two time Top Twenty contender. Oliver's substance, angels, balance and temperament along with his beautiful head and expression are proof of that. "No matter what you do, give 100%" - That's Oliver in a nutshell. A dog full of energy, great disposition and joy for life. Oliver personifies the very essence of Boxer temperament. Oliver has earned the appreciation of breeder judges and allrounders alike. Shown selectively in 2014, he has won big specialties against some of the top winning Boxers in the country and gathered impressive breed wins and group placements while charming all with his unmistakable charisma. The Top 20 competition is the crowning achievement of these beautiful Boxers but we would like to take this opportunity to pay special tribute and show our appreciation to Oliver's breeder, Margo Bliss of TKO Boxers. And, when he was the ABC Best of Opposite, we were flying. But this bold, confident dog was not to be denied and so began his quest for the Top Twenty. Along the way he has been awarded multiple BISS wins and is a multigroup winner. This year, we were thrilled to present Maverick at the Westminster Kennel Club and he went Best of Opposite winner. Other Top 20 Qualifiers in Windsor’s pedigree include CH Capri’s Woods End Spellcaster, aka “Loki”; CH Woods End Crown Sable, aka “Tucker”; CH Rosend’s Key Largo, aka “Bogie”; CH Jems Jack of Diamonds, aka “Jackson”; and CH Bayview Strides Ahead, aka, “Strider”. Windsor finished his Championship at 10 months of age and then came home to clown around, play, and have fun with our family. He is such a loving, playful, and inquisitive spirit! The next year he returned to the ring in limited showings and earned his Grand Championship at 22 months of age. Windsor is a square, powerful yet elegant boxer bred to standard with an exquisitely chiseled headpiece and deep soulful eyes. Well balanced, he delights onlookers as he effortlessly powers around the ring with his formidable drive, long reach, and fluid movement. Unexpected circumstances compelled us to change handlers in the middle of 2013 in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our precious boy which sidelined Windsor for seven months while we searched for a new handler. Although we knew this decision would significantly set us back and impede his career and standing, we believed ensuring the wellbeing of Windsor was far more important than winning more ribbons. Protecting Windsor at all costs was the right thing to do. Windsor finally returned to the ring with a new handler in 2014 and proudly went on to win 42 Best of Breeds and multiple Group placements in ten months of limited showings to earn his Silver Grand Champion title and finish in the Top 20. Needless to say we are quite thrilled and proud of our boy! We are deeply honored to be part of this prestigious ABC event. We sincerely thank all of our good friends, family, and supporters who have gone out of their way to befriend and mentor us during this incredible journey. Most importantly we would like to thank the early pioneers in Windsor’s pedigree who possessed the knowledge, instincts, and foresight to breed such a super Stallion and improve our beloved Boxer breed. It is with great humility that we will continue the legacy you began so many years ago. Windsor is our foundation stud dog who will perpetuate our shared visions to breed to standard for a better, stronger, and healthier breed in future generations to come. I showed him myself and finished his AKC championship in 3 weekends at the beginning of 2013---not too shabby for an old man with his spunky young pup! In February of 2013 I was introduced to a young lady and her mom who had been admiring Redford since I had started showing him earlier in the year. The young lady was fourteen year old junior handler Brooke Moyer and when Redford met her it was love at first sight. These two enjoyed spending time together at many local shows. Early in the summer of 2013, it became clear to me that Brooke and Redford had a strong bond and that these two may be able to accomplish great things in the ring together. Redford began visiting Brooke and her family for training and conditioning. Redford quickly learned to show well for his girl and the love story continued. They attended the Regional Specialty in Gettysburg, PA where this dynamic duo came away with two Award of Merit wins. They finished off 2013 with a Best of Breed win at the Philadelphia Kennel Club, a Select Dog award at the AKC Eukanuba Championship show and multiple breed wins. Redford started off 2014 with his first group placement and a Best of Opposite Sex award at the Westminster Kennel Club. This was followed up with multiple Best of Breed wins and group placements throughout the year. A few of his 2014 highlights include a group placement at the prestigious Connecticut River Working Group Show, a Best in Specialty show and multiple group placements. Redford has enjoyed traveling and showing with his girl where he has proven himself many times both in and out of the show ring. He has been everything a boxer should be, a loyal friend, a playmate, a protector and a constant companion. He has produced two AKC champions to date; both have earned every point with Brooke on the lead. Brooke and Redford would like to thank everyone who has followed their great adventure and cheered them on. Shelly was not whelped here at the kennel so I did not see her litter until they were 5 weeks old but when I did, I was thrilled with what I saw. Although shown sparingly as a youngster since we knew she was so active it would be difficult to keep weight on her, she finished quickly in Canada. She finished her Canadian Championship in style going Winners Bitch at the Boxer Club of Western Ontario, Boxer Club of Central Ontario and the Boxer Club of Northern Ontario. In 2013, Shelly was shown for the first time at ABC and made it down to the final cut with me on the end of the lead. I was thrilled. Shortly after arriving home from ABC, Phillip Koenig of Bar-K Boxers called and asked if CinnRhee Boxers was interested in sending Shelly out as a Special. I didn’t have to think twice. Shelly’s debut was the Blue Bonnet Boxer Club in Texas and she took the breed under a judge I have admired since my beginning, Jane Forsyth. Her handlers were Leonardo and Jody Garcini and what a team they were. Shelly won other Best of Breeds and Best in Specialty Shows throughout the rest of 2013 so it was decided that we would make a run for the Top Twenty for 2014. At the ABC National in 2014, Shelly received an Award of Merit from Judge Butch Engel. What a thrill for Medley, Denise and me. Another highlight of Shelly’s career was winning the Miami Valley Boxer Club Specialty in June. Along with that win came the prestigious Jack Brown Memorial plaque, which I will always treasure. Jack was a fine man and a better friend. Shelly didn’t complete the 2014 year because she was bred and whelped 3 healthy and beautiful girls.
