Coming Soon: NRSCCA events Notes from the RE’s Desk I would also like to thank everyone who helped out with the Formula SAE West competition in Lincoln. The UNL Team did very well this year finishing near the top of the field in a couple of the competitions. I would encourage everyone to seriously consider helping out with this event in some fashion at the 2014. The event will only grow with the addition of the Formula SAE - Electric competition. Looking forward, its not too early to start thinking about solo nationals. The event will run from August 31st through September 6th this year. Registration has opened online for the event. As a region, we need help with this event. Specifically, if you are able to help out with the gate or the practice course during the week, the help would be greatly appreciated. Matthew Cox As I am writing this, Formula SAE is just wrapping up and the Paul Brown Grand Prix is just around the corner. I would encourage everyone to come out to race if you can. We can always use more volunteers, or just come out to enjoy some racing action on Saturday or Sunday. Saturday night, there will be a drive-around of the track in honor of Paul Brown. Anyone who would like to participate in this drive around is more than welcome to attend (participation in the race is not required). Because race schedules can expand and contract pretty easily, the recommendation is for participants in the drive-around to arrive at the track around 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. N E B R A S K A R E G I O N - E X H A U S T NO T E S A reminder to all SCCA Club Racing workers, that Registration for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs® will open this Wednesday, June 5th at 9am CDT. You can access the registration system either via the link on the Runoffs page on the SCCA web site or by going to motorsportsreg.com directly. In order to be included in the Worker Directory for the event, you will need to register by August 16th. This year we will be going back to the traditional Runoffs schedule with races Friday through Sunday. con’t pg. 3 PA G E 1 2013 NRSCCA Board of Governors: Patt [email protected] 402-391-0120 Matthew [email protected] 402-680-6180 Dave [email protected] 402-753-0448 Get In The Loop! The article said said “there were approximately 300 people and100 cars at the closed race track site SE of Indianola to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first races there. Drivers, corner workers, and spectators told stories. Everyone took a few laps on the course.” The last time I was there for an MCCI event in 2004, the course was still in decent shape for being that old, the edges were breaking in spots and there were a lot of volunteer trees at the edge of the paving. A lot of the NRSCCA & DMVR members in the 1960’s ran the races and also worked. A lot of you know Ron Sharp of Des Moines, who is recovering from cancer and seems to be geting his strength back - here is an a note from his wife Jean; “This past week-end, with the help of good friends Barry, Denny and son-in-law Mark, Ron got the ole GP Midget running and we went to Indianola with the trailered MG and spent the day at Greenwood Race Track. Arrangements had been made with the company that owns the land, that people with race cars (or just fancy cars) could drive the track which was all there, except very slowly as the concrete was breaking up. We had a wonderful time visiting with old friends, and making new friends as well. I believe that our GP Midget was the only race car there that had actually raced on Greenwood some 49 years ago. Ron throughly enjoyed being behind the wheel. I guess you can’t take that feeling away and it put added spring in his step and pride to still own the Midget.” The MCCI newsletter said “People came from California, Alabama, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska andseveral other states.
