Eph 3:17 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM NEWS AND INFORMATION In a loving, nurturing environment, St. Martha Religious Education Program guides each student to develop his or her unique ability and potential through prayer, study, and service. Crazy Church Soccer Camp! Monday, August 3rd- Thursday, August 6th 6:00-7:30 PM each evening at the St. Martha Soccer Field All children are invited to join us as we have some fun practicing soccer drills, playing a few ‘backyard” soccer games, and getting crazy learning about God!! This is not your run of the mill soccer camp and you won’t become an expert soccer player by the end of the week. But, you will have a great time kicking the ball around with friends, old and new in a Christian, family friendly environment:) All of this for just a $5 donation to help with snacks. Save the date and look for registration forms on our website-www.st-Martha.org and on the bulletin board outside of the school office. Teens and adults- as always, your expertise is needed!! Call or email Jackie Rosalez at 517-349-1763 or [email protected] for more information!! All children ages 4-10 are invited to join us every Sunday during the 10:00 Mass for our Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Father Jon will invite children to come forward after the opening prayer. We will then go downstairs and have our own age appropriate readings, Gospel, prayer, songs and lesson. The children will then rejoin their parents in church during the offering. There is no cost and no need to register, this is for everyone!! If you have any questions, just call the parish office at 349-1763. Religious Education begins and continues at home. Parents, you are your child’s prime example of how to live as Jesus did. Don’t forget that this summer as we get so very busy. Be sure to find a church and attend when on vacation, pray at meals (even in a restaurant) and bedtime, listen to some Bible Stories, Christian CD’s or Christian Radio in the car- YouTube has great full length cartoon Bible stories- and most importantly be a godly example in all you do by making loving choices. In a loving, Christ-like nurturing environment, St. Martha School guides each student to develop his or her unique ability and potential through prayer, study, and service. † A MANS Accredited School since 1994. (517) 349-3322 The end of the school year is often marked by fun and educational field trips. This year, the sixth grade class spent the day at Greenfield Village. They really enjoyed riding the turn-of-the century train. Students also visited the courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practiced law and watched a glass blowing demonstration, among other things. It was a fun to step back in time and learn about history outside of the classroom. The seventh grade took a trip to the Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Island. Students toured forts Michilimackinac and Mackinaw. They also took a carriage tour around the island, visited St. Anne’s Church, and sampled some of the island’s famous fudge! They came back with a greater understanding of Michigan’s early history, and some lasting memories. Dedication of St. Martha Church with Bishop Kenneth J. Povish July 28, 1991 Prayer to our Patroness, St. Martha: O Saint Martha, teach me to offer the simple gifts of kindness and hospitality to others as you did to Jesus and His friends. Let my hands be open to God’s Word in my life. Bless and pray for all those who come to my door. Amen. CCW – Did you know? Sister Anita’s Corner Christian Service Coordinator Contact info: home phone: 349-5703 or cell phone: 242-3352 [email protected] Sunday, July 26, 2015 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time Praying with Psalm 145 The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs. The eyes of all look hopefully to you and you give them their food in due season… We have listened to this gospel of Jesus multiplying the loaves and fish many times and each time we try to imagine the scene and how it came about. Moving from our imagination to this present day we have our meager offering to any situation where we know that there is a need. We bring it and in the sense of putting it into bigger hands, God’s hands, we want it to be given freely and blessed so that it can be distributed to all those in need. Pope Francis’ encyclical on Care of our Common Home, Earth states : “Now I wish to address every living person on this planet… In this Encyclical, I would like to enter into dialogue with all people about our common home.” (3) We know that we all need to be working toward caring for our home. We need to be involved in providing a healthy harvest for all. Choosing to ask within our own individual lives and together what changes we can make in the care of soil, water, seeds, fertilizer, harvesting, processing, marketing, and availability is an valuable beginning. We are just coming to realize the important questions that we need to ask together. Taking our simple offering of our own choices and changes, while bringing our offering to the Lord, is no small experience. We know that Jesus will bless it and ask us to distribute it to the crowd and then ask us to gather up whatever is remaining so none will be wasted. No idea, no action, no hope for the present and the future will be wasted. Into God’s loving hands and his plan we place our offering. Look at the abundance that we see in our stores, in our farmers’ markets, on our tables and consider the crowd gathered around Jesus. Jesus desires to feed the crowd so that they may become a community of believers. Consider the crowd of human beings that needs to be nourished in so many ways, nourished with food, with clean water and the Word of God. May we be committed to helping our family, our community, our global brothers and sisters—near and far-- have a healthy harvest allowing all to live and grow in the manner in which our Heavenly Father intended; that all may have life and have it to the fullest. Paul’s words to the Ephesians ( 4:1-6) are words to us today. Brothers and sisters, I urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call… striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through bonds of peace… knowing that we have on God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. … you open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. This phenomenal narrative is reported in all four Gospels. In many ways what Jesus did in this particular miracle is different from others He performed. He makes an effort to involve His Apostles by turning to them and appealing for assistance. Of course, there is some hesitance on the parts of Philip and Andrew who are cited as responding in somewhat negative ways. Jesus does not admonish them for their misgivings but goes ahead to accomplish what He set out to do. Certainly the Apostles had witnessed previous incredible acts by the Lord, but yet they still hesitated to trust Him implicitly. How often do we do the same? Do we remember the many blessings we have received, and do we think of all the ways God has been with us in the past, or do we, like Philip and Andrew, doubt? Stewardship involves complete trust in God. This trust should be based as much on what has happened in our lives, as on our deep faith. Good stewards concentrate on the positive, not on the negative. When one focuses on blessings rather than challenges, miracles like this seem commonplace.
