I
n 2003 fifteen rural households from Prijedor,
who had attended a training course on
tourism organized by Tremembe association
from Trento, with the support of another Italian
association “Progetto Prijedor”, founded in
Prijedor an informal network of responsible
tourism.
The principles defined in the Italian responsible
tourism association Card were similar to those
specified in the local regulations on rural or
ecological tourism.
The groups of tourists that started visiting our
town thanks to the projects the association
“Progetto Prijedor” was realizing in Prijedor
were mostly expressing their interest on the
kind of information not easily available in the
official tourist offer of the area such as national
cuisine, traditional handcrafts, natural
resources etc. On the other hand even the
citizens seemed to underestimate the
characteristics of our territory.
Therefore, the foundation of the network, aimed
at re-evaluating those elements, was a natural
and logical reaction to the mentioned situation.
In 2007 the informal network registered as an
association for promotion of traditions and
culture of our territory under the name of
Promotur. The founders and most of the
members are households from rural parts of the
municipality and individuals that were
organizing the visits for the tourists with the aim
to promote local culture, traditional handcraft
production, national cuisine and the territory in
general.
One of the activities of the association is to
involve and connect among them all the
important actors of the zone and therefore
members and partners of Promotur are cultural
workers and organizations, artists, wild fruit and
medicinal herbs pickers, honey producers,
mushroom pickers etc.
In collaboration with the Tourist organization of
Prijedor's Municipality we installed the
exposition shelf in the office of the Tourist
organization where all our members have the
possibility to show their products and
promotional material to the public.

extra activities such as fly fishing, guided
excursions, trekking routes etc.

localities outside Prijedor whose
characteristics needed to be promoted
better. With most of them Promotur had already
co-operated in the past. These locations are:
In 2009 Promotur is going to help the
organization of network of cyclic paths in our
region promoted by the organization Green
Tour. The members of the association that live
along the future paths are going to give a
logistic support to the Green Tour for the
organization of the events of cicle tourism.
- the area of Stivor – this small community of
Italian immigrants, located 10 km from
Prnjavor, was settled in the late XIXth century
by decision of Viennese Court under which
jurisdiction were both Bosnia Herzegovina and
this north italian region. The Italian minority that
lives in Stivor preserved its authentic trentinian
dialect and most of its costumes and national
cuisine which only saw slight changes under
the influence of the local culture.
In partnership with UCODEP, the organization
for Unity, Collaboration and Development of
People, the association Promotur is going to
promote the development of responsible
tourism within the UCODEP's project for
development of rural tourism in the valleys of
river Drina, Neretva and Una-Sana, partly
supported by Ass. Progetto Prijedor as well.

- the area of Martin Brod– from many is
considered one of the most beatiful parts of
Bosnia, a true paradise for professional
fishermen, artists, poets, writers and others.
With the households from Martin Brod the
association Promotur tries to intensify
previously established collaboration by
creating a unique and quality tourist offer for
entire region of north-west Bosnia.
- the area of ecological centre „Oaza mira“
(the oasis of peace) in Sanica – Sanica, a
pitoresque villagge situated in the valley of river
Sana and confining with the community of
Sanski Most on north and north-west and with
the community of Bosanski Petrovac on the
south. The ecocentre Oaza mira is a project
with clearly defined objectives that respond to

old Bosnian house that could serve as
an training centre, a meeting point with
costumes, handcrafts and culture of our
region

Bosnian cuisine
Valorization of natural resources
Participation to local and international fairs
on tourism and traditional handicraft
