Another edition of “Become President of the Parrot Heads in
Amish Paradise and you have to move away from Amish Country…”
This month will be the end
of Captain Shauna’s duty as
leader of the Amish ship.
She valiantly stepped up to
take over when Captain Patrice headed to warmer
weather. In October, she’ll
be headed out to the Pacific
Northwest to join her family.
Let us bid her fair winds and
following seas as she takes
on a new adventure in this ever changing life! Your “Ahoy, Mateys!!” will be
missed Shauna Mañana!
We had a great time doing the breakfast on Sunday! We cooked for 60
about 35-40 came in to eat. We had plenty left over for later. The guests
staying at the RMH were so appreciative.

What is green, with purple hearts, 18 holes and a bunch of crazy Parrotheads? That was the Rich Valley
Miniature Golf course on Sunday August 9th. Purple hearts were sold ahead of time and placed all over the golf
course. My favorite part of the day was looking up the sidewalk lined with purple hearts and knowing that we
were going to be able to make a huge difference for some PA Wounded Warriors. My father was retired Army
and was a recipient of a purple heart and that golf course brought tears to my eyes.
94 people showed up that beautiful Sunday afternoon to support the PA Wounded Warriors. Parrotheads
in Amish Paradise and the Hanover Parrothead Society teamed up for this fun new family event.
With any good Parrothead event you need a few things. You need crazy Parrotheads who like to party
with a purpose. You need someone to rope into selling 50/50 and raffle tickets. You need some good food, lots of
cool raffle and auction items, adult beverage specials and music. We had it all that day!
Rich Valley had never seen that many people on their miniature golf course. As people made their way
around the course, our Captain and other non-golfing members were delivering adult beverages to those trying to
get those holes-in-ones, knowing that there would be prizes for the best scores. I’m sorry I was having so much
fun that I forgot who won, next year I’ll do a better job of keeping track. (ed: Steve Augustine, Laura Reynolds,
Tammie & Randy Ebersole comprised the winning team.) Our official competition team of Phyllis Harmon, Don
“Yogi” Krieger, Larry and Dolly Kmetz won the Tiki Trophy back from Hanover, too! (As Jimmy says, “We ain’t
stealing, we’re just taking back…a very simple statement of fact.”)
One could come away with a great beach set up at the raffle /auction table. The Key West Yuengling
bike, along with 2 Margaritaville chairs (complete with side arm coolers) and a few cold Corona beers—just what
any self-respecting Parrothead needs!
A huge thank you goes out to all our sponsors, hole sponsors, those who bought and sold purple hearts,
those who bought raffle and 50/50 tickets, and those who bet on the auctions items. Thanks also to Kelly and
Wayne Beck for providing the music, Rich Valley golf course for letting us invade them for the day and the most
outstanding committee around-- Lynn Stewart- Krieger, Ginny Isabella, Pat and Deb Fink, Diane Clapper, Martha
Orndorf and Angie Staub from Hanover.
When all was said and done, The First Annual “Jakie” Invitational raised $6850.00 for the PA Wounded
Warriors. For those of you unfamiliar with the PA Wounded Warriors, they are not the same as the national group
“Wounded Warrior Project”. The money raised at the Jakie Invitational will stay in Pennsylvania, helping wounded Pennsylvania soldiers.
A little more info on the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors (PAWW)—In 2014, PAWW assisted over
1,200 wounded warriors and veterans in crisis with over $600,000 in emergency financial assistance. Over half of
their funds went toward housing assistance (security deposits, rent & mortgage, and home repairs). The next biggest chunk of assistance goes to help with utilities; followed by auto (loan payments, insurance & repairs); morale
events (tickets to Hersheypark & Pocono Raceway, and VA hospital visits); gift cards; and miscellaneous.
Almost all of these are considered the basic necessities in life, but can be out of reach for many of our
wounded military. PAWW achieves this with only 4% administrative costs—meaning that 96¢ of every dollar
goes directly to assist wounded warriors. Our military heroes are just that – heroes. They deserve the best we can
offer, and we can be very proud of how the Parrot Head family responded to their needs!
So, that being said polish up your putters for next year’s event which is already in the planning stages!

I have to say, it was a perfect day for Music on the Mountain!!
We had such a good time hosting the event and can't wait till
next year!! It started with the Corn Hole Tournament, which
pitted 8 teams in a grueling match (nobody could score). The
ultimate winners were the ringers from Lancaster that infiltrated the tournament. Turns out they were really good people and
enjoyed all the hospitality we showed and we may have even
gained a few new members from it.
As always the music was nothing less than SPECTACULAR!!!
First Dennis was up and played a lot of favorites and some of
his new material for the new album. Can't wait till the new album Dennis! Then John was up and had a great set, even got in
'Rocky Raccoon' for Barb! (Note from Barb: I was just vehemently requesting it for someone else!) Then to top the night
off, we had Dennis and John pairing up for several songs,
which was a perfect way to end the evening.
Who can forget the shot contest? Don 'The Other Bartender at
One Tree Key' Isabella won with his 'Endless Summer' concoction. John Winters came in a close 2nd with his famous
Margarita. We certainly enjoyed the leftovers Don & John!
Ginny and Don Isabella also took home the official PHIAP
Corn Hole boards. Get lots of practice Don and Ginny, we
want to keep the Phlocking Tiki.
A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped make
this years Music on the Mountain another success!!! I’m
already thinking about maybe doing 2 Music on the Mountain events next year, what do you think Lynn?!
Your Humble Life Guard,
Yogi

MEETING OF THE MINDS 2015
"A Salty Piece of Land"
November 4th - November 8th 2015 - Key West, Florida
Calling all Amish Parrotheads: If you are considering going to MOTM this year, you have until September
15th to register, only five more days. Everyone knows how much phun partying in Key West is, but did you
know that MOTM has several service projects for those Parrotheads who espouse our “Party with a Purpose”
creed. If you are going to MOTM, join your fellow Amish Parrotheads for these worthy service events.
MOTM ZONTA WALK/RUN
All Amish Parrot Heads going to MOTM are encouraged to walk with us as "Team Parrot Head" 2015 to
help raise money for a local Key West organization.
The Zonta Club of Key West will be having their annual "ABC 5K Run/Walk" on Saturday, November
7th, 2015. ABC stands for “Awareness Breast Cancer,” and Zonta encourages you to join in with the
hundreds of expected Runners and Walkers for this
year’s event on Saturday, November 7, 2015. This
organization raises money to cover mammograms,
thin-prep pap tests, other diagnostic test and preventive measures for uninsured and underinsured women.
Last year’s Zonta Walk/Run Participants.
Tropical Soul will be entertaining the crowds at
MOTM! See them at the Hog’s Breath, each night
from 5:30 to 9:30pm! (Log in on the Hogcam if
you’re not in Key West (www.hogsbreath.com).
See them at Dante’s Crab Island Mambo Welcome to
the Keys Party on Wednesday, November 4. The
event is from 11:00am-3pm and Tropical Soul takes
the stage at 1pm.
MOTM BLOOD DRIVE
For the last NINE years MOTM
has been the largest blood drive in
the Keys. Last year 187 attendees
attempted to share the “Gift of Life.” From those that
tried, 178 pints were collected. This was the second
highest number of donations gotten had in all the
years of the blood drive. Once again there will be at
least two, maybe three bloodmobiles sitting in front
of the Casa on Seminole on Thursday, November
5th from 9 am to 5 pm and on Friday, November 6th
from 9 am to 2 pm.
MOTM TOY DRIVE
This will be MOTM’s eighth year supporting
the Salvation Army of Monroe County, benefiting the children of Monroe County including Key West. Please bring an unwrapped toy (don't
forget batteries) or school supplies to donate when
you register. Age groups requested are infant-toddler
and teenagers. If you are driving down the Keys, stop
at the Homestead Wal-Mart or the Key West or Marathon K-Mart to pick up toys or school supplies. Collection boxes will in the registration area. Gift cards
are a great idea as well!!
Catch Tropical Soul at the Casa Marina Sun Sun Bar
on Wednesday, November 4 from 10pm to midnight!
The new CD will be released at Meeting of the
Minds!! Grab one while it’s hot!

ELECTIONS 2015
It’s that time of year again when you may be getting
phone calls from the Amish Parrothead Elections Officer. Please make his/her job easier and consider running for one of the offices up for election.
If you can’t do it, convince some one else in the Club
to run for office.
