[< germ. EdelweißI]. Lion’s paw (lat. Leontopodium alpinum) was declared a natural monument and is protected since 1933. The name chosen for the Foundation is symbolic – Edelweiss literally translated from German meaning – noble white – a plant declared a natural monument, representing something rare and precious. The most precious in a modern society are its people, the Foundation aim at supporting young talented people, offer opportunities for the disadvantaged and contribute to the society. The 3 main areas of activity chosen by the EDELWEISS Foundation are: cultural, educational, and social, thus covering the essential features of public activities of the country and being able to create a conglomeration of opportunities, which ones fructified, will lead to positive and sustainable results for Moldova. Slogan: „ Support the people who will support Moldova” Foundation’s Mission. The Foundation has the mission to contribute to the development of the society by developing projects in the following areas: cultural, educational and social. 2 AREAS OF ACTIVITY SOCIAL AREA Over the years, Edelweiss Foundation supported the socially vulnerable layers of the Republic of Moldova, particularly families in distress, elderly and institutionalized children. The year of 2014 was marked by the launching of social fundraising campaign REVIVE MOLDOVA together with The Institute of Mother and Child (PMSI IMC), which is the main state institution from the Republic of Moldova to provide medical sirvices at the highest level, in the areas of pediatrics, neonatology, obstetrics and ginecology. In april of the current year, a national social fundraising campaign have started, named REVIVE MOLDOVA with the slogan A NEW LIFE, in partnership with EDELWEISS Foundation for th Development of the Republic of Moldova. CULTURAL AREA Edelweiss cultural projects support and promote talented people from Moldova. This year we witnessed a successful continuation of “Classic Music for ALL”, which gathered 30.000 spectators willing to listen to classic music performed by 67 young instrumentalists – Chisinau Youth Orchestra. Also, a national conference of choir conductors was organized. The event took place Saturday, April 5th 2014, resulting in a complete success, which gathered 150 choir conductors from the 33 regions of Moldova. The participants at the conference raised issues related to choral creation under the managerial and educational aspects, and at the end of the event approved a resolution to be sent to central and local authorities EDUCATIONAL AREA Education is a priority for Edelweiss Foundation, because the young people of the Republic of Moldova need motivation and encouragement to develop their talent in the fields they are passionate about. The best athletes of the country competed against each other at the K1 Amateur Moldova Championship, with the support of Edelweiss Foundation who helped aver 60 fighters to participate at this event. Also this year, a fantastic genre book was published for the first time in the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, the first edition of “Fire Wolf and Princess of Scythians” book was released. 3 PROGRAMS AND BASIC ACTIVITIES “REVIVE MOLDOVA” SOCIAL CAMPAIGN Edelweiss supports the national social fundraising campaign REVIVE MOLDOVA “Revive Moldova” Project is carried out at the national level, in the period of April 12th 2014 – April 12th 2015, aiming at raising funds (from donations, sponsorships) to be used in the renovation and modernization of the biggest maternity from the Republic of Moldova, Institute of Mother and Child. During the mentioned period of fund raising, the scheduled actions will be carried out with high transparency: renovation works, modern medical equipment purchase – according to the necessities of the Public Medical-Sanitary Institution “Institute of Mother and Child” from Chisinau. The nationwide social fundraising campaign is an absolute premiere for the Republic of Moldova. The “Revive Moldova” Campaign aims at informing the general public about the importance of this maternity, raising awareness and generating a social involvement, solidarity and generosity movement. At the end of this projects, some ambitious results are planned to be achieved: reduce the risk of pathologic births by ensuring free access to modern medical care; offer constant consultations, treatments and quality medical assistance to women planning to conceive a baby, mothers with small children, of all social layers across the country. 4 In numbers, the ultimate goal of the project is to collect the sum of 18.563.913,38 MDL (eighteen million, five hundred sixty-three thousands, nine hundred thirteen and thirty-eight lei) – amount necessary to cover all the costs for modernization works at the Institute of Mother and Child. The most important planned investment refers to the opening of the first Prenatal Screening Center and Outpatient Diagnostic Department in a public institution, which will be available for patients of diverse social classes, giving the circumstance in which Moldova is the only country in the region where the government does not offer the future mothers access to such a diagnostic center. “Revive Moldova” Social Campaign launching concert and the first visit at The Institute of Mother and Child The fundraising campaign for the benefit of The Institute of Mother and Child (IMC) was launched on April 12th 2014, during a charity concert offered by the famous singer Laima Vaikule and local artists such as Tania Cerga and Catalin Josan. The concert, which gathered more than 1.100 people, represented the first event of the nationwide campaign. 5 The first donations for the Institute of Mother and Child were made by Laima Vaikule, a 10% of the total amount required by IMC was donated by Edelweiss Founder Vlad Plahotniuc, as well as Catalin Josan and Tania Cerga donated their honorariums. Several non-governmental organizations get involved and support the project Revive Moldova Representatives of major non-governmental organizations, gathered at a debate organized by The Institute of Mother and Child from Chisinau, expressed their intention to support the fundraising campaign Revive Moldova. On behalf of Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova, Revive Moldova campaign will receive support to find donors and sponsors, who will help to collect the necessary funds for the renovation works planned for this year. Boris Gilca, UNFPA Assistant Representative in Moldova, discussed about the effects the Revive Moldova will have at the national level. Also, the UN representative mentioned that together with the adherence of the country to the European Union, such projects will become more visible, and Moldova will have access to more foreign funds. Tandarica Theatre from Bucharest came to Chisinau to support Revive Moldova Campaign 6 “Tandarica” Theatre offered two exceptional performances of “The Goad and Three Kids”(rom. Capra cu trei Iezi) play at the National Philharmonic Hall, in the framework of “Revive Moldova” Campaign. The money collected from ticket sales were transferred to the accounts of the Institute. Being in Chisinau for the performance of “The Goat and Three Kids”, the actors from Tandarica visited the maternity, who is the beneficiary of the fundraising campaign Revive Moldova. First playroom for children was inaugurated in the framework of Revive Moldova campaign 7 Starting with May 31st of the current year, the children hospitalized at the Institute of Mother and Child will be able to play in a specially equipped room, at the maternity from Chisinau. The playroom is the first project of the REVIVE MOLDOVA Campaign, opened in the presence of singers Adrian Ursu, Marcel and Cornelia Stefanet and Edelweiss Founder, Vlad Plahotniuc. The playroom was renovated from scratch, equipped with furniture in bright colors and toys for children of all ages, who are being assisted at the Institute of Mother and Child. Sports open lesson for pregnant women, within the “Revive Moldova’ Campaign Dozens of pregnant women participated at a sports open lesson, organized by The Institute of Mother and Child, in partnership with Edelweiss Foundation and Unica Sport network. For twenty minutes, mothers have made a series of exercises suitable for pregnancy period, under the 8 supervision of specialized coaches. The event was held outdoors in the park of the Institute of Mother and Child in Chisinau. The young people from Chisinau Youth Orchestra joined REVIVE MOLDOVA Campaign Talented musicians from Chisinau Youth Orchestra joined the fundraising campaign "Revive Moldova”, for the modernization of The Institute of Mother and Child. Over 1500 people attended a spectacular classic music concert on Friday, August 22nd, offered by Chisinau Youth Orchestra in the Cathedral Square form Chisinau. The open air concert was the first out of three, offered by the young orchestra in the framework of “Revive Moldova” Fundraising Campaign. The crowd, present in the Cathedral Square Friday evening, could listen to some most known classic pieces, performed by young musicians from Chisinau Youth Orchestra, conducted by Adriano Marian, Gabriel Bebeselea and Mihail Secichin. The event was attended by several personalities from the field of culture, collaborators and partners of the young people from Chisinau Youth Orchestra. The open air concert concluded with the speaches of Monica Babuc, Minister of Culture; Lucia Culev, Head of Culture Department at City Hall; Elena Marian, President of Choral Music Association. 9 On August 23rd, classic music admirers had the opportunity to listen to several famous pieces by honorable composers like Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Felix Mendelssohn and Igor Stravinski, in the exceptional performance of Chisinau Youth Orchestra. The concert was held at the Organ Hall from Chisinau, and was the fourth from the series of summer concerts dedicated to the social campaign Revive Moldova, for the modernization of The Institute of Mother and Child. The 60 young people from Chisinau Youth Orchestra dedicated their performances of this summer to mothers and children who will benefit from the modernization campaign of the maternity from Chisinau. On August 24th Valentina Nafornita offered an exceptional performance at the National Palace from Chisinau, in the support of Revive Moldova Campaign. The beloved Moldovan soprano, which performs on the stage of Vienna Opera House and is highly appreciated at international level, held a remarkable concert in Chisinau. For the first time, the artist sang with her husband the baritone Mihai Dogotari on the same stage, being accompanied by Chisinau Youth Orchestra. The event gathered remarkable personalities such as Iurie Leanca, the Prime- Minister, Margareta Timofti, the 10 first lady, Monica Babuc, the minister of Culture, Octavian Bodistean, the Minsiter of Youth and Sports, Eugen Doga, the famous composer and many others. The artists were encored three times and left the stage in the sound of applauses. The concerts organized at the end of this week in the framework of Revive Moldova campaign were a total success among the Chisinau citizens. Adrian Ursu and Irina Negara, impressive gesture for Revive Moldova Campaign The singer Adrian Ursu and his family made a donation worth 10.000 for Revive Moldova campaign, dedicated to the modernization of The Institute of Mother and Child from Chisinau. Adrian Ursu and his wife Irina Negara visited the maternity where their daughter Irina was born, and now is eleven months old. 11 Unexpected gesture of a newlywed couple: they made a donation for Revive Moldova on their wedding day. Two young people from Chisinau chose the most special day of their lives to join Revive Moldova campaign. On their wedding day, Olga and Alexandru Andrusca went to The Institute of Mother and Child and offered a donation for the modernization of the maternity. The first success of Revive Moldova campaign: The Institute of Mother and Child has a new admission wards, completely modernized The admission ward of the maternity at the Institute of Mother and Child (IMC) was completely renovated and modernized, within the Revive Moldova campaign. The Edelweiss Founder, who runs the Revive Moldova campaign, and Stefan Gatca, the Director of The Institute of Mother and Child, cut the ribbon at the inauguration of the freshly renovated ward. Dozens of doctors, beneficiaries, mothers and project’s supporters were present at the event, and contributed with donations of different values to help the national fundraising campaign . Renovation works have profoundly changed the appearance and quality of the conditions from the admission ward of IMC Maternity. The patients enter a very welcoming hall, furnished with new furniture, and can enjoy comfort and modern treatment conditions in the 7 rooms and freshly renovated cabinets. The opening of the admission ward marked the successful completion of the first stage of renovation and modernization works at the maternity, financed from the donations collected in the framework of Revive Moldova social campaign. 12 Admission ward. GOAL ACCOMPLISHED: 1.000.000 EUROS RAISED FOR THE MODERNIZATION OF THE INSTITUTE OF MOTHER AND CHILD Revive Moldova campaign has reached its goal, the Institute of Mother and Child has 1 million euros for the reconstruction works and modern medical equipment for the benefit of mothers and children. The statement was made at the end of the Revive Moldova Telethon, by Edelweiss Founder Vlad Plahotniuc, and Andreea Marin, who hosted the Revive Moldova Telethon. The two went together to the Institute of Mother and Child, and handed the collected funds certificate to the management of the medical institution. Andreea Marin thanked Moldovans for their generosity and solidarity in supporting this noble cause during one inspirational day, which gathered many donations. Thus, 411.735 lei were collected by people from all around the country. Edelweiss Foundation added 566.998 lei in order to reach the objective. Throughout the day, people have proved their generosity, by participating at Revive Moldova Telethon. Personalities answered to the calls at the marathon’s call center, using a donation special line, which was overloaded throughout the day. They received calls not only from Moldova but also from Romania, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, United States – all of them having connection to the Institute of Mother and Child. 13 Many families with children and grandparents, groups of colleagues or friends went to make donations at the campaign’s collection boxes. The medical staff of the Institute of Mother and Child offered a one day salary. Well known personalities and guests visited Publika TV or called the hot-line showing their support to the cause. The Ambassador of Romania, Marius Lazurca, came with his family in order to deliver a solidarity message, while the soprano Valentina Nafornita called the studio to encourage the Moldovans to get involved. We would like to remind you that from 411.735 lei, collected in the framework of the Telethon, 50.340 lei were collected by means of phone calls, 33.165 lei from text messages, while 162.164 lei were raised at the collection points at Publika TV, 76.062 lei in Balti, 51.169 lei in Cahul and 38.835 lei at IMC. At the end of the Telethon Edelweiss Foundation offered a donation of 566.000 lei. Revive Moldova Telethon, organized by Edelweiss Foundation and hosted by popular TV star Andreea Marin at Publik TV, was held Saturday, October 19th, from 8 am an lasted 11 hours. The Telethon provided new ways of raising funds for the modernization of IMC. AT the same time, with the occasion of the telethon, four collection boxes for donations were opened in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. In Chisinau people could make their donations at two collection points one at the maternity ward of the Institute of Mother and Child and second at Publika TV studio, 1 Ghioceilor Street. In Balti, the collection box was placed at “Vasile ALexandri” Theatre, and in Cahul – at “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” University. 14 15 Completely modernized delivery room at the maternity of The Institute of Mother and Child! The Maternity of The Institute of Mother and Child has the first completely modernized delivery room supplied with modern equipment. This project was successfully carried out after major renovation works, undertaken within Revive Moldova Campaign. Before the first patients benefit from the new improved maternity, Vlad Plahotniuc, the initiator of the Revive Moldova national campaign insisted on having a religious sanctification ceremony. The ceremony was held by his Grace Peter, the bishop of Ungheni and Nisporeni regions. On this occasion, His Holiness stressed that offering modern conditions to mothers and newborns in maternity, the families are being encouraged in Moldova. "We are so happy that there are people like Mr. Plahotniuc who made everything possible to see this facility renovated. Children, the future of our country, are being born here” said His Beatitude. The campaign is a total success being supported at national and international level, recently being collected the full amount required for completion of modernization process, in 2015. Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, supports Vlad Plahotniuc’s project on modernizing the Institute of Mother and Child: “it is a vivid example of what can be achieved through involvement” The message of Revive Moldova social campaign is supported by the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The Ukrainian President highly appreciated the ambitious actions undertaken to modernize the Institute of Mother and Child – during his last night visit to the maternity from Chisinau, together with the social campaign initiator, Edelweiss Founder, Vlad Plahotniuc. “This project is a perfect example of what can be achieved through involvement, because it is extremely important to offer good conditions for future mothers. Due to this type of projects the changes in the society are much more visible”, mentioned Poroshenko at the Institute of Mother and Child. 16 The President of Ukraine mentioned that Revive Moldova campaign is similar with a project carried out in his country, having as a goal the modernization of perinatal centers. “I encourage this campaign, with a very significant name for Moldova. We have a similar project in Ukraine, which aims at developing the perinatal centers. I believe that together with the revival of the country begins with the revival of these centers”, mentioned the chief of the Ukrainian state. Edelweiss Founder, Vlad Plahotniuc, also the initiator of the modernization project of the Institute of Mother and Child, spoke about the motivation to invite Petro Poroshenko to visit this maternity, as well as about the importance of Revive Moldova project. “I am very happy to have the opportunity to invite today such a special guest, the President of Ukraine and a good friend of mine, Petro Poroshenko. I have recently been in Kiev, and discussed about our project and he instantly agreed to support it”, said Vlad Plahotniuc. “Our countries have many things in common, we share the same aspirations. I am happy to notice that in this medical center of national importance are born children of different nationalities, including Ukrainians. We want to create the best conditions. The messages of support from our friends are very important to us”, mentioned the initiator of Revive Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc. The social Campaign Revive Moldova was launched in April during a charity concert organized by Edelweiss Foundation. Since then, thousands of donations were made, and many important personalities from Moldova and abroad, politics, businessmen joined the campaign and send encouraging messages. The campaign was a real success and all the necessary funds for the renovation works were raised. The first stages of the modernization project were carried out, and the new words of the maternity are put into use. Unprecedented modernization at IMC. Revive Moldova Project will continue next year The extensive renovation and modernization works at the Institute of Mother and Child have spectacular result until today, and will continue in 2015, with the help of the collected donations within Revive Moldova campaign. A balance of the project and setting further steps were discussed during the IMC working meeting, Thursday November 27th. 17 The modernization that is happening now has no precedents in the history of the medical institution. Since the start of the project, in just a few months, the project managed to renovate and equip the admission ward with modern furniture and equipment, a ramp to facilitate the access of patients to the maternity was built, and one of the delivery rooms was modernized according to European standards. In less than six months, the Revive Moldova campaign has shown extraordinary results within our institute, said the IMC General Director, Stefan Gatcan. He appeared satisfied that the necessary funds for the 6 stages of the modernization project were fully raised within the Revive Moldova campaign. He presented the records of expenses during a working meeting. The IMC director projects that the works will finalize in 2015. The IMC patients and the medical staff already benefit from better conditions at the maternity. “Revive Moldova Project is an extraordinary motivation for the doctors from the admission department. Now we can offer the best conditions to receive and consult patients. The mothers who come back to us for the second or third time are pleasantly surprised by what they see, especially that now we have modern equipment almost in every room, and we can easily monitor every complication that may occur during the consultation of the patients. Now we have trainings on how to use the new equipment and are more calm because we now exactly the diagnoses of our patients”, says the Head of Admission Ward of the maternity, Doctor Victor Botnari. Revive Moldova Campaign continues: A new wings of IMC maternity was modernized Starting today, mothers and their new-born children will be able to recover in modern and renovated rooms, in the maternity of the Instotute of Mother and Child. A new wing of the maternity was opened for patients in the presence of His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, the initiator of the Revives Moldova campaign, Vlad Plahotniuc, and medical staff from the Insitute of Mother and Child. Metropolitan Vladimir held an emotional consecration service and thanked everyone for involvement and solidarity proven in their support for Revive Moldova social campaign. 18 “We are on the eve of Saint Nicholas holiday, when traditional people offer gifts. We offer present to children, but Vlad Plahotniuc offers a bigger gift for the entire country: the modernization of the Institute of Mother and Child. Everithing that is done here is for th ebettre of citizens and the Republic of Moldova”, said His Beatitude Vladimir. Since launching the Revive Moldova Campaign for the renovation and modernization of the maternity, a total amount of about 1 million euros was raised, making it possible to start the renovation works, for the first time in three decades. Next year, the same project will renovate and equip other dozens of childbed rooms, will build a modern operation room and the first outpatient diagnostic department - Prenatal Screening Center will be opened. SOCIAL AREA A carefree start of school for a needy family from Leova Boestean family from Cahul has eight children; five of them are going to school. Alexandru, the oldest one, is a second year student at Technical University from Chisinau. The family cannot cover the cost of school supplies from the salary of the father and children’s allowances. Before the start of a new school year, Edelweiss foundation support needy families and offers school supplies, thus encouraging the kids to go to school and continue their education despite all the difficulties. A new surprise for the kids from a foster home from Hincesti! 19 The 21 children from Brindusa foster home from Hincesti were very surprised to see again some of Edelweiss volunteers, who came to visit for Christmas. For the first time, children became friend with Edelweiss team during Yes or No TV show, broadcasted on Prime TV, when the foster home became the beneficiary of the TV show and of important donations made by Edelweiss Foundation. The surprise of a new encounter came before Christmas, when the kids were visited by Edelweiss volunteers in Hincesti. The children receive candies and home appliances from Edelweiss Foundation; they sang and danced for Santa Claus. “Brindusa” foster home is hosting 21 orphan children, coming from socially vulnerable families or victims of domestic violence. See who were the special Edelweiss guests, at Odoras Journal Christmas party At this year’s Christmas party organized by Odoras journal, Edelweiss Foundation came along with three beautiful and large families. Each family was blessed with triplets and quadruplets, and together with their children became the special guests of Edelweiss Foundation at the Christmas party. 20 In addition to the donations receive from Edelweiss, presents for the kids and home appliances for every home, the three families received another good new: the children will appear on the pages of Odoras Journal, starting next month. Edelweiss helps the triplets born at the Institute of Mother and Child The little Ionel, Nicoleta and Gabriela wre born in a young family from a village from Cahul. Their mother Olesea is only 23 years old. Edelweiss Foundation offered presents and necessary supplies to the triplets born at the maternity n Chisinau. CULTURAL AREA 150 conductors have gathered together to save the choral art in Moldova The prize of 50,000 lei offered by Edelweiss during Performance Awards Gala (December 2013), was used by the Association of Choral Music and Musicians Union to organize the first time in Moldova, a national conference of choir conductors. The event took place on Saturday, April 5th, and was a success, bringing together over 150 choir from the 33 regions of the country. The conference addressed issues related to choral creation from the managerial and educational point of view. At the end of the conference the participants approved a resolution to be presented to the local and central authorities. 21 Supporting traditions: The best doina singers from Moldova, awarded by Edelweiss at Doina Festival Edelweiss Foundation helps promote our traditions and the discovery of talented artists who will preserve them. Edelweiss sponsored the Festival of Doina, at its 3rd Edition, which took place during the period of October 21st – 24th in Chisinau. The best and genuine 10 Doina singers, selected during the contest on October 23rd, receive awards worth ten, eight and six thousands lei, offered during Doina Festival Awards Gala. The grand prix was offered to Marcela Voicu from Chisinau, handed by the Minister of Culture, Monica Babuc. The Festival of Doina was organized for the third year in a row by Radio Moldova. The project aims at identifying the most talented Doina singers, folklore singers and cultivating the love for this lyric and traditional music genre. Folk Doina is registered in UNESCO heritage patrimony. Winter concerts were brought to Moldova by Edelweiss The first of the three concerts was exclusively held in the Republic of Moldova, in front of 800 spectators. Under the stick of the conductor Adriano Marian, the young people from Chisinau Youth Orchestra offered a pop symphonic concert, performing well-known popular songs with a 22 symphonic touch. Together with the Orchestra, Catalin Josan, RUPT, Alex Calancea, Cristina Pintilie and Marinela Parlico created an outstanding atmosphere in the crowd. “It’s something special. Alex Calancea also mentioned the exceptional atmosphere send from the stage to the public by the 43 young instrumentalists, supported by Edelweiss. “It is wonderful to have such youth in Moldova”, said Alex Calancea. The second winter concert was offered by 250 choir performers, who represent 10 groups from across the country, during an anniversary edition of the National Festival Colinde, Colinde. Genuine carols were performed during this concert. The third winter concert, Ballet meets symphony, managed to convey the winter holidays spirit with sequences from ballets “The Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake”, signed by Piort Tchaikovsky. The orchestra was conducted by Gabriel Bebeselea, one of the leading conductors in Romania. The winter events were organized by Edelweiss in partnership with Chisinau Youth Orchestra. The young instrumentalists from study in Moldova and abroad and are supported fir several years by the charity foundation patronized by Vlad Plahotniuc. 23 EDUCATIONAL AREA The best athletes of the country competed at K1 Moldova Championship for amateurs. 160 athletes competed at the K1 Moldova Championship for amateurs, in Chisinau within a truly spectacular event. K1 Federation of Moldova in partnership with Edelweiss Foundation organized this year’s championship bringing it to the European level. A national lot of athletes will be formed to represent Moldova at international competitions. Sensational publishing released with the help of Edelweiss A first fantasy book was released in the Republic of Moldova. Thus the first release of “Fire Wolf and Princess of Scythians” will soon be available to the public. Written by Ghendaie Postolachi and illustrated by Sergiu Puica, the book was received with great enthusiasm by those present at the book release. This book will read by many people, as it is “patriotic”, modern and brings a novelty in the literature for children. 24 We are proud of the performance of our athletes! At the end of a successful year for our K1 fighters, Edelweiss Foundation decided to award the athletes for their performances, during an anniversary gala. The president of the K1 Federation and of FEA Association, Dorin Damir, mentioned that 2014 was a successful year for many athletes, and promised that the year of 2015 will be even more fruitful. Edelweiss Foundation awarded 16 of the young athletes who achieved performances and medal from diverse European and world competitions during 2014, especially at the European Championship in Vilnius in November. 25 EDELWEISS GALA SURPRISES Edelweiss Foundation organized an evening of beautiful emotions and surprises to mark 4 years of activity, alongside hundreds of beneficiaries from across the country. Popular star Andreea Marin was the host of Edelweiss gala Surprises, and also in collaboration with the foundation patronized by Vlad Plahotniuc, the one to announce about the donations that changed the lives of five families in distress. One by one, the families present at Edelweiss Gala as simple spectators, were surprised by Andreea Marin and asked to get on the stage. The public has heard the stories and hardships experienced by these families and extraordinary and exciting moments were lived both on stage and in the crowd. Emotions erupted every time when Edelweiss announced details on donations - carefully prepared - to fulfill the dreams of these families. The most emotional and culminant moment of the evening was the meeting between the Edelweiss Founder Vlad Plahotniuc and Petru Chirita, a young man known to the public due to his participation at a TV talent show. Vlad Plahotniuc said that he himself had heard the story of Petru Chirita on TV, and impressed with this young ambitious man, he immediately decided to help him. During the Edelweiss Gala Surprises event, another four families received support. The foundation will cover the annual cost for treatment of a girl from Grecu family, who was diagnosed with eye cancer. Cristin and Ionela brothers from Lingura village, Cantemir, already have new and modern hearing devices. Nicolae Rijac, the boy who defeated leukemia thanks to Edelweiss, is going through recovery treatment, also covered by Edelweiss along with financing the renovation of the boy’s family house. Edelweiss will finance the cost of musical studies of Cristina Andries, so that she can prepare for a bright future carrier she dreams about. “All of these are made possible due to an amazing Edelweiss team, that you don’t see, but you should know they are always there”, mentioned Andreea Marin.
