My name is Deacon Chad VanHoose, and I was ordained a transitional deacon for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis on May 14, 2016. God willing, I will be ordained a priest of the Archdiocese on May 27, 2017. Please allow me to introduce myself to you. The son of Paul and Julie VanHoose, I was raised in Northeast Kentucky on the Ohio River near Portsmouth, OH. My parents, two older sisters, brothers-in-law, and ten nieces and nephews currently live in suburbs of Cincinnati, OH. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing before moving to Minnesota. From 2005 to 2011, I performed the work of youth and young adult evangelization with NET (National Evangelization Teams) Ministries based out of West St. Paul. In the fall of 2011, I started seminary formation at The Saint Paul Seminary. I enjoy college basketball (Go Wildcats!), watching and playing sports, travelling with friends and family, and being outdoors. I am grateful for the warm welcome that I have already received at Nativity, and look forward to spending the next nine weeks serving our parish. Priestly Anniversaries Both our priests celebrated priestly anniversaries this past month. On June 4, Fr. Patrick Hipwell celebrated the 39th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. And on May 30, Fr. John Powers celebrated his first anniversary as a priest. May God bless them for their continued service and generosity, and here’s to many more! Theme baskets are a fun and creative way to get involved and help raise money for the Nativity County Fair. Pick a theme: Tailgating, Rainy Days, Chocolate/Foods, Sports, or Gardening are just a few favorites from the past. Make a basket as a family or with neighbors and friends! Grab a shirt or jersey, along with a blanket and tickets to a Vikings, Wild, Twins, Timberwolves or college game for a special basket. Put all of the ingredients for a delicious meal, plus some special touches, all in one basket or create a family game night basket or beach getaway basket. Have fun! Silent and Online Auction Committee members are hard at work to bring in some impressive new items to the Online and Silent Auctions this year, along with some fan-favorites from years past. Our Online Auction will go live on September 8 and is open to everyone. Please help us spread the word! In addition to unique goods, our Silent Auction will include "experience" packages and exciting new items as well. Be a ball boy or girl at a CDH football game, buy an extra out-of-uniform pass for your child or grandchild, take pitching lessons from Erik Lovdahl, the Twins own batting practice pitcher, or get a designated parking spot for your family for the 2016-2017 school year! A couple of items on our wish list are "shadow for a day" experiences of interesting careers and a Super Chexx bubble hockey game! Live Auction - Save the Date Nativity County Fair’s one and only Live Auction and Dinner is September 17, 2016. This is the flagship event of the year and is always a wonderful evening of socializing, entertainment and giving back. Start planning your table of eight or sign up individually as this is always a great venue to meet new people at Nativity. Ticketing information will be coming out soon. Places to visit, stay, and eat were at the top of the list of our most popular items last year. This year’s auction will be stocked full of incredible new items. Travel opportunities include one week at a gorgeous Villa in Tuscany Italy--can you say “Una cena senza vino e come un giorno senza sole!”? Check out the website (www.locandalepiazze.it) and be ready to bid! Then there’s a fantastic 7-day Hawaii trip for SPRING BREAK (March 5-12) at the famous Waikiki Beach Walk Resort on the Island of Honolulu. Looking for something close to home? How about a private cruise for eight on Lake Minnetonka or a unique opening night experience at Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis? For our foodie types, we have delicious private wine and beer dinners for your friends, the famous Schmitt’s Gourmet Pizza party, and much, much more. The auction will offer plenty for the avid sports fan too, including four tickets for Sunday at the 2016 PGA Ryder Cup and golf at White Bear Yacht Club. Dinner and drinks at DeGidio’s Restaurant includes four tickets to the Vikings’ Monday Night NFL Football Game against the NY Giants on October 3 in the new stadium. For fun right here at Nativity, take care of your family’s County Fair expenses and enjoy the popular VIP plaza parking with a single bid to win the Nativity Count Fair Golden Ticket for unlimited free rides and food and beverages.
