common areas to teach recruits the Marine Corps Common Skills (MCCS). The

Four Life Saving Steps
Start the breathing, Stop the bleeding,
Protect the wound, Treat for shock.
Symptoms of Heat Stroke
Hot dry skin. Headaches and confusion.
Weak pulse and breathing.
Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion
Cool pale clammy skin. Headaches and
confusion. Weak pulse and breathing.
Heat Casualty Prevention
Acclimatization. Salt food to taste. Drink
water frequently.

FIRST AID
Symptoms of immersion foot
Pale bluish skin as the pulse decreases
Procedures for treating a blister
Leave the blister alone and keep feet dry
Precautionary measures to prevent foot injuries
Keep feet clean and dry and wear properly
fitting boots and socks
First action taken upon viewing a person lying
motionless on the deck
Ask the person if they need help or if they are
O.K.
Procedures for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation
Survey the scene. Open the airway using head
tilt/chin lift method. Check for breathing. Pinch
nose and give 2 breaths. Check for pulse. Give
12 breaths per minute.

the Tactical Carry if no
immediate threat is present.

at the Control if he has a three

not in the shoulder).

the Alert if enemy contact is
likely.
A Marine Carries his rifle at
the Ready if contact with
enemy is imminent.
