Although Ryan was born in Milwaukee,
WI, his family moved to a variety of places
across the country during his childhood. He
graduated from Glenbard West High School
in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He showed an interest
in automotive repair and took classes at the
College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn Illinois in
the late 1990’s.
After completing the Marine Corps boot
camp in October of 2002, Ryan was an
active duty Marine M1A1 Abrams main
battle tank mechanic from 2003 to 2006,
then was deployed to the Al Anbar providence in Iraq in 2005 to 2006. Ryan recieved
decorations and awards such as the Marine Corps good conduct medal, Meritorious
Mast, a Certificate of Commendation and earned a Gray Belt in the Marine Corps
Martial Arts Program. He was a rifle sharp shooter and pistol sharp shooter. Ryan was
honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2006 with the rank of Sergeant.
He is currently enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard and is assigned to the
Forward Support Company in the 113th Engineer Battalion. Ryan was deployed with
the 1613th Engineer Support Company of the 113th Engineer Battalion to Hohenfels,
Bavaria in Germany in 2011.
He is a member of the Marine Corps League, Rolling Thunder veterans motorcycle
club with his father and Ivy Tech’s Student Veteran Organization.
Ryan is a current Ivy Tech student veteran pursuing an Associates of Applied Science
in Visual Communication with a photography concentration. He also works as a VA
work-study at the Ivy Tech North Central Veterans Service Office.
Ryan’s hobbies include motorcycling, photography and watching Notre Dame and
Green Bay Packers football.
