A Note from Principal Lethbridge
Another
month is now
gone and this
school year is
picking up pace!
As a parent of
four, I know that
it is not only difficult to get everyone where they
need to be, but
to also to get them there on time.
Attending and being on time to
school is very important. As this is
the first school experience for many
of our parents, I want to take this opportunity to explain the procedures
and policies that we are required to
follow.
Attendance and tardiness
monitoring is required by the State of
Florida. Our procedures require that
students that are late go into the office to get a tardy slip to class. We
ask that the parents accompany the
child into the office.
The tardy is
recorded into the computer. Five tardies count as one unexcused absence.
When a student reaches a certain
number of days absent or tardy, we
send letters to parents notifying them
of the problem and ask for their assistance to improve the situation. If
the problem continues, then we will
ask the parents to attend a Student
Attendance Review Committee
(SARC) meeting at school with the
school social worker, data clerk,
school liaison, and the principal. The
goal of this committee is to once
again improve the attendance of the
student. Finally if the attendance
situation does not improve, we are
required to send the information to
the court system.
If your student is absent,
please send a note sharing the reason
they missed school. If you know that
your child is going to be absent ahead
of time, you can send a letter in prior
to the event. The majority of the time
I approve these pre-arrange absences
as excused as long as there is not an
attendance problem present for that
child.
We all want to help our children develop good habits early in life.
Being punctual will assist them not
only in their school life, but also in
their work career. Your child will
feel more confident if they arrive to
school on time. It is not a good feeling to start the day walking into a
classroom that has already begun the
morning routine. It also disrupts the
teacher’s flow as they try to attend to
the student that was late.
Thank you for your help and
support in this important area. As
always, please contact me if you have
any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Andrew G. Lethbridge
Principal

KLC Housekeeping
School starts at 7:40 with the
tardy bell.
Please put your child’s name
on their jackets and sweatshirts so they can be returned
if left behind!
Wear sneakers to school!
They are perfect for PE and
daily recess. No flip-flops,
Heelies, little high-heels, or
platform shoes. These just
aren’t safe at school
TENNIS BALLS! We need
them for the chair legs in every
classroom. If you know anyone who plays tennis, and has
“dead” tennis balls, we need
them! Send them in! We
would also love volunteers who
would cut them with a 2-inch
X, ready to be put onto the
chairs and tables.
Teachers are in need of math
sorting objects, from macaroni to screws and buttons.
5 tardies and early checkouts
together equals an absence.
KLC will be having a Thanksgiving Dinner on November
21. Reservation forms will be
sent home with students before the end of October. Further details will be included on
the reservation form.
