Good job girls!
During the third quarter, though,
the Raiders finally gained control of
the game.
Grabbing every rebound and loose
ball in sight Rice began to pick up the
tempo and basically ran the Brahmas
more than they were used to.
"We did a great job of controlling
the boards. Pipkins and Gertson had
14 and 10 rebounds respectively, and
capitalized on their miscues," said
their coach. He also added that this
was an important victory because it
allowed the Raiders to gain some confidence going into the Needville Tournament
On Thursday, Dec. 11, in Needville, the Raiders played their best
game of the season, deafeating the
Hitchcock Bulldogs 90-84 in the first
round of the Needville Tournament
Leading the way were three Raiders who topped the 20 point barrier:
Scott 26; Gertson, 22; and Godley 21.
Another in double figures was Rangel
with 11; and two others scored,
Brooks with six and Pipkins, four.
Also helping out the Raider cause
was the work done on the boards:
Gertson and Godley 11 rebounds each
and Pipkins pulled down 10.
At the defensive end, the Raiders
got 20 steals; five each by Scott Godley and Rangel.
This game started off fast and
very seldom slowed. Twice during the
game, Rice had to come back from 12
point deficits. Both times, they were
successful. As the game went on, the
Raiders took control and eventually
took the win due to two factors: rebounding and hitting key free throws
down the stretch.
Friday, Dec. 12, the Raiders were
slowed down by the El Campo Ricebirds, losing 64-58.
As sharp and crisp as Rice was on
Thursday, they were that dull and
sloppy Friday.
Led by Scott's 17, Gertson's 13
and Josh Godley's 10, the Raiders
stayed close but never came up with a
big, sustained run to take the lead.
Also contributing to the cause
were Pipkins with nine; Eric Johnson,
Lady JV slowed by injuries
The JV Lady Raiders have started

games.

five; and Rangel, four.
Once again, the Raiders did agood
job on the boards with Pipkins pulling
down 11 and Gertson getting 12.
The biggest positive about this
game was the Raiders showed they
can handle bigger, faster teams and
don't quit
Saturday, Dec 13, the Raiders got
all over the Second Baptist Eagles, 7773. The score doesn' t reflec t the domination the Raiders displayed.
Leading the way for the Raiders
were Josh Godley with 29, Scott, 15;
and Pipkins, 10.
Also contributing to the cause
were Johnson with nine; Gertson,
eight; Rangel, three; Brooks, two; and
Charles Axel, one.
Making the All-Tournament
Team was Warren Scott.
This week, the Raiders have two
home games. Tuesday they were
scheduled to play the Palacios Sharks
andFriday the Weimar Wildcats come

Lady Raiders
in tournament
The Lady Raiders participated in
the Brookshire Royal Tournament
Dec. 12-13, playing the host team
their first game.
The Lady Raiders had several key
players out of the game due to injuries.
This made it very hard for the Ladles
to compete.
The game started with a 15-10
deficit for the Raiders.
By half time, the lead had grown to
15 points for Brookshire. The girls

Next for the Raiders was Wheatley, but Wheatley didn' t show, giving
the Ladies a forfeit victory.
The Raiders advanced to play for
consolation against Kashmere.
In the first quarter, the score was
14-11 Kashmere. By halftime, score
was 32-24.
The second half started with a battered and bruised Lady Raider team
with two more starters suffering injuries. This left the Raiders without
much hope.
Once again, the Ladies didn't give
up and gave great hustle throughout
the game, ending with Kashmere
