28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Voting in the Election
It is not being partisan to observe that the decision on the person we choose to vote for
will be a difficult one for many people. Even Pope Francis was dragged into this election
with a question that came from a reporter on one of his recent trips. His response was
quite simple: “Study the proposals well, pray and choose in conscience.” He observed
that the Church cannot tell people whom they should vote for.
So a suggestion: the National Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued their own
document to help us form our consciences in this election. This weekend and next
weekend, there will be a two-page excerpt presenting the main points of their document.
It covers most of the issues involved and presents the teachings of the Church for you
to be informed. Hopefully, you will find it helpful.
The Bishop’s Annual Appeal
Many have received information about this important appeal. You have always responded
with great generosity. My homily this weekend will present some of the major needs for
this appeal. Next weekend, we will have a recorded brief homily from Bishop Serratelli
and a time for those who have not already done so to respond to the invitation to make a
pledge/contribution to this appeal. I do believe much in what this Appeal will support. I do
pray that you can join with me in supporting the important areas sponsored by the Appeal.

Family/Marriage Ministry
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawls are given to
persons who are seriously ill.
The Shawl is a reminder to those
who receive it of God’s never
ending love. Every stitch is a
prayer for God’s healing and
peace to be with the person
receiving it.
The Shawl is
blessed by Monsignor Mahoney.
Visiting the Sick
If you or someone you know is in
the hospital or homebound and
wishes to receive a visit from a
person on staff or wishes to
receive Communion, call or e-mail
Sister Margaret.
Monday Night Bible Study
Come join us Monday, October 10 at 7:30 pm as we
explore what God has to tell us in Saint Paul’s Letter to
the Romans. This book of the New Testament is
generally considered one of the most important in the
Bible and deals with topics such as faith and its
transformative power in the lives of believers. The
power of Romans is such that a reading from Romans
helped bring Saint Augustine to Christianity and another
reading from Romans helped spark the Protestant
Reformation. The study will be facilitated by Lee Finch.
Meetings will be held each Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the
Upper Room on the second floor.
