July 2016
Women of the YAMHILL VALLEY
The appeal of the Yamhill Valley goes beyond the rolling hills,
verdant fields and pristine forests which paint a picturesque image
of idyllic bliss. The real allure might lie in the abundance of charming
communities nestled among local trees, vines and streams. These
quaint small towns embody the welcoming spirit of neighborliness and
goodwill lacking in more urban regions. Throughout the course of a
year, we try to cover the events these communities host, celebrating
everything which makes the valley so special.
As in all towns, groups of people who share backgrounds, interests
or goals form the framework on which a community is built — the
Yamhill Valley is no exception. In this special section, we celebrate
the women who are responsible for so much of the area’s well-known
economic, aesthetic and cultural success. These natural leaders are a
big part of what makes the Yamhill Valley a remarkable place to live,
work and visit.
Here’s to the Women of the Yamhill Valley!

Senior Director of Operations
It was almost predestined that Danielle Klaus Bailey would
work in her family’s business. As senior director of operations at
McMinnville’s Your Space Storage, Danielle oversees a storage
facility with over 1500 storage units. With customer satisfaction
her number-one goal, Danielle loves reducing her customers’
stress levels as they move or seek convenient and secure
storage options for their possessions.
Danielle holds bachelor’s degrees in history and social science
from Ashford University. A certified storage manager, Danielle
also serves on the advisory board of the Oregon Self Storage
Association. As manager of one of the county’s largest storage
facilities, Danielle is committed to making her customers happy.
Danielle lives outside Sheridan with her husband, John, and
two children, Dannika, age four, and Jackson, age one. When
she’s not helping customers, Danielle enjoys reading, camping,
NASCAR and spending time with her family.
Insurance Agent
When Linda Sauceda started a job training new insurance
agents, she realized she could help more people as an agent
herself. For 17 years now, Linda has been helping families and
small businesses understand insurance as she helps them choose
the right plans as a licensed insurance agent. Linda offers
personal and business plans for auto, home, renters, commercial
property, motorcycle, business, worker’s compensation, bonds,
health and life. Her ability to shop plans among multiple
companies helps Linda’s clients save money and get the right
coverage!
Linda is grateful and proud that her clientele is built entirely on
word-of-mouth referrals. She believes this attests both to the closeknit nature of the local community and the quality of her service.
Linda lives in McMinnville with her daughter, who attends
the same school Linda did growing up. When she’s not helping
clients, Linda enjoys taking in the sweeping views of the valley
while wine tasting at picturesque local vineyards. She also loves
spending time with her daughter, friends and family.

As a cardiologist at Northwest Cardiovascular Institute, Dr.
Samuel manages acute and chronic cardiology issues for patients
of both the clinic and hospital. Dr. Samuel was awarded her
undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago
before earning her medical degree at Midwestern University.

approach during treatment.

Agent / Newberg Branch Manager
Gail Moldovan-Trujillo loves working in the insurance industry
because it challenges her to learn and to find ways to think
outside the proverbial box. Gail enjoys giving a client peace of
mind by providing exactly the right insurance coverage for that
client’s unique needs. As an agent for McMinnville’s venerable
Hagan Hamilton Insurance, Gail also serves as the company’s
Newberg branch manager. She works with clients across Oregon,
helping navigate the complex nature of insurance for both
personal and business insurance requirements. Gail specializes in
flood insurance, recently earning the prestigious National Flood
Insurance Program agent of the year award.
Married for nearly 30 years and mother to two children, Gail
knows the importance of helping her clients find ways to best
protect the things that matter most to them. Her 27 years in the
industry have provided Gail with unique experiences, training
and skills which help her serve clients as a true professional. An
independent agent, Gail can offer a wide range of products from
many carriers to provide custom insurance plans.
OBGYN Physician
A childhood injury sparked an interest in medicine for Celina
Sears. After working in research, Dr. Sears decided a medical
degree would allow her to incorporate her love of science and
interacting with people into a fulfilling career. As a physician
at Women’s Health Care, Dr. Sears provides outpatient care in
addition to performing gynecologic surgery and delivering babies.
Raised in Southern California, Dr. Sears was awarded a
bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from the University of
California, Irvine before earning her medical degree from St. Louis
University. Dr. Sears served in the U.S. Navy for nearly a decade.
Dr. Sears loves the combination of surgery, continuity of care and
women’s health found in the obstetric/gynecologic field.
Dr. Sears lives in McMinnville with her husband and three
children. When she’s not helping her patients, Dr. Sears pursues
physical fitness and explores the delicious world of food. She says
the former allows her to do the latter with little guilt.

Owner / General Manager
As a child, Holly Nehls wanted a career in aviation. But it
wasn’t until she reached her mid 30s that she realized that
dream. When her husband, Ingo, needed assistance launching a
scenic tour business, Holly was thrilled to help get the business
off the ground. Today, Holly serves as general manager of
McMinnville’s popular Konect Aviation. The business offers
scenic flights over wine country, flight training and serves as
McMinnville Municipal Airport’s fixed base operator (FBO).
A Portland native, Holly earned a bachelor’s degree from
Portland State University. In her position at Konect, Holly does
a little of everything, from planning, accounting and customer
service to arranging car rentals, project management and even
event planning. But she especially loves sharing the excitement
of clients taking their first flight!
Holly lives in McMinnville with her husband Ingo. When she’s
not busy at the airport, Holly loves to read, garden and play with
her two dogs, Snoopy and Flash.
For Nicole Winnen, good time management is a survival skill.
Not only is she the mother of three children, but also the owner

Mac Prescription Shop at PMC.
Nicole is a second generation pharmacist; her father Fred
Parkinson owned Silverton Drug, Mt. Angel Drug and opened
Mac Prescription shop in 1970. Born and raised in Silverton,
Nicole completed her education at Oregon State University.
She and husband Jarod have three children; Connor, 15, Sydney,

“I have always loved paper and ink,” Chelsey Nichol says.
Chelsey’s family business is printing. In 2010 she started her
personal business, Type A Press, a letterpress printing operation.
Her letterpress business was born from her family business.
“We had a letterpress sitting in our warehouse for decades,

Chelsey says.
She built her skills, and discovered a gift for setting type.
Chelsey and her press produce custom pieces of art in the

includes consuming as well as producing.
As a youngster, she wanted to be a book editor or own a

Karen Aquinas is often asked about her job title, energist.
Simply put, an energist is someone who understands everything
is energy, including the way we feel, and can work with people
to help them move energy. Moving energy alleviates suffering
and empowers individuals to live lives filled with less stress and
misery — and more joy, love and success!
After successfully using energy techniques to recover from the
effects of long-term severe stress, Karen Aquinas was amazed
by her own results and established Biofield Health Services to
offer professional energy wellness coaching and modern stress
management training to those who feel paralyzed, unproductive
and unhappy.
Karen holds a master’s degree in educational administration
from the University of Southern Mississippi. An internationally
certified EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) master practitioner
and energist trainer, Karen regularly works with clients in the
areas of stress, trauma, limiting beliefs, confidence and anxiety.

Buying and selling - single family
or extended family property
A Real Estate Poem...
Once upon a time in a land, not so far away,
there sat a house with a circular driveway
A beautiful home with a porch that wraps around,
it seems my dream home I’ve found.
A beautiful yard and a field that’s been plowed,
now what do I do, you wonder aloud?
How do I find what this house is worth
and who can show me this pretty spot of earth?
Or is it time to sell the family home you own,
and try something new since the kids are grown
How do you price something quite so dear
and make a move with little or no fear
That’s where we come in, to help you out,
send us a text, give us a shout
We’ll compare prices of houses like yours,
including the doors, drawers and floors
Let us be your agent of choice
and give your home it’s very own voice
Show it off in the very best light
so buyers will love it at very first sight.
Trust Robins Performance Group, two smart gals and a guy,
we can help you to make that buy
We’ll work hard for you if it’s to buy or sell
and don’t forget, we’ll treat you well.
Enough of this I heard you say,
no more of this silly wordplay
Get to work and sell my place
and then get busy to find me a new space
No problem for us since we love what we do,
we’ll do our best, just for you
And try to reduce the level of stress
while you get ready for a change of address.

Executive Director
As executive director of the Willamette Valley Cancer
Foundation, Carrie sees the impact of what the foundation accomplishes every day. Watching the difference the foundation makes
in the lives of cancer patients and their families shows Carrie that
the organization’s efforts are both crucial and appreciated.
The Cancer Foundation provides vital support for local
friends, family and neighbors during their cancer treatment
journeys. This financial support helps lift the burden of everyday
life expenses, so cancer patients can focus on treatment. The
501(c)3 non-profit foundation provides assistance with housing,
groceries, prescriptions, transportation, utilities, insurance
premiums, prosthetics and wigs and more.
Carrie said WVCF not only raises funds locally, but those funds
are distributed in the same community. “Donations directly
impact cancer patients and their families locally,” said Carrie.
“I have the opportunity to work in an amazing and supportive
community with outstanding individuals,” said Carrie. “If it was
not for the support of this community, the cancer foundation
would not be able to sustain our financial assistance program.”
Program Director
Program director Kassandra Baker is motivated by a personal
connection to the mission of WVCF: her mother survived breast
cancer. “I want to see the foundation grow so we can continue
making a difference in the lives of cancer patients,” she said.
Kassandra said that donations and planned giving are taxdeductible contributions essential for the foundation to continue
serving. “Your contributions help us make a true difference
during a cancer patient’s difficult journey,” she said.
Kassandra is a northwest native with strong connections to
the Yamhill Valley community. She loves the opportunity to
make a difference and truly love the work they do — “Live local.
Give local.”
Visit the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation web site.
“You can see how we’re making a significant impact. You can
even support our mission with a donation.” Since 2002, WVCF
has helped cancer patients in our community with financial
assistance totalling over $600,000. WVCF also provides cancer
education for children and free adult tobacco cessation programs
for employers and residents of the communities they serve.

She moved to McMinnville as the only female OB/GYN in 1995
and opened Women’s Health Care. “It is both a privilege and a

The spectrum of practice encompasses care for those with
significant health concerns. She also focuses on helping women
promote good habits today to safeguard their future health. “I
am delighted to be able to help women obtain their full potential
in resolving health problems.”

Family Nurse Practitioner
Melissa Heuberger, a McMinnville native, always knew she
would go into healthcare. She considered becoming a physical
therapist or a pediatrician when she was younger and started
college as a pre-med major. After seeing a nurse practitioner
while in college, the visit made a lasting impression on her.
She graduated from OHSU with a Bachelor of Science degree
in nursing and attended the University of Portland, where she
received her master’s degree in nursing. She eventually started
her career as a registered nurse and worked locally for six years
in labor and delivery.
Melissa continues to provide healthcare to women, but has
more autonomy and can focus on disease prevention, health
promotion as well as treatment. She believes it is an asset to be
a woman caring for other women in healthcare.
She has two daughters - Kayla and Natalie. She enjoys
spending time with her family and when time allows, yoga and
golf.

Physician
As a child, Daisy Huang was fascinated by the idea of “x-ray
vision.” As a physician at McMinnville Imaging Associates, Dr.
Huang recognizes the profound importance of her field, where
the human body can be examined on the inside without touching
a scalpel. Dr. Huang particularly enjoys the practicality of
applying science to the care of her patients — that she can make
a difference in the life of a patient.
Raised in Iowa and California, Dr. Huang was awarded her
undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley
before earning her medical degree at the Weill Cornell Medical
College in New York. Dr. Huang completed her residency at the
New York-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center followed

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Huang enjoys hiking, biking
and hopes to try her skill at gardening. She also has plans to
teach herself to replicate Instagram-worthy culinary creations.

Since public accountants help individuals and businesses be good

She enjoys helping people discover that philanthropy can make a

President
Growing up in the rental industry, Shannon Botten was
perfectly positioned to introduce her husband, Alan, to the
industry’s intricacies when the need arose and the time was
right. When the couple launched Botten’s Equipment and Event
Rental in McMinnville, the business opening filled a gaping need
in the Yamhill Valley community.
In 2015, Botten’s Equipment and Event Rental expanded its
rental lines to include event and party rental supplies, allowing
local folks to take full advantage of the area’s picturesque
vineyards, wineries and rolling hills. Since the company already
offered gardening and ground work equipment in addition
to rock, soils and bark dust, Shannon knew the company was
perfectly poised to fill a great number of local needs.
Shannon earned a master’s degree from Pacific University and
serves as a special education teacher at Duniway Middle School.
Shannon and her husband live in McMinnville with their toddler
daughter, Nora Mae. In her free time, Shannon enjoys running
and coaching McMinnville High School’s cross country team.
Part Owner
Johanne Edwards loves the Yamhill Valley, its people and
the supportive nature of the community here. As part owner at
Botten’s Equipment Rental, Johanne gets to experience these
special qualities on a daily basis. The best part of her job, says
Johanne, is meeting and helping customers as they rent a huge
variety of equipment or purchase the quality rock, soils and
mulch the company offers.
Having married into the rental industry, Johanne is perfectly
suited for her duties at Botten’s. She can be found assisting
customers and processing linens for their recent expansion into
party and event rental. Born in McMinnville and raised on a rustic
farm in Carlton, Johanne is a local gal, through and through.
Johanne lives in Yamhill with her husband, Dick. With most
of her time occupied at Botten’s and Buchanan Cellers, she
tries to make sure she has quality time with her family and
granddaughter, Nora. She also loves riding her mules!

communities that populate this picturesque corner of Oregon. In
the 20 years that she’s called McMinnville home, Beth has made

Executive Director
Sara Whitfield thought that a traditional nursing home
environment could be greatly enriched by introducing an
energetic and positive focus to an otherwise institutional
setting. Seizing an opportunity, that’s exactly what she’s done as
Executive Director at Life Care Center of McMinnville.
Knowing that the center has come a long way over the last
several years, Sara is proud that things are done differently
at Life Care. She expects her staff to share in her vision and
approach their jobs with enthusiasm and energy. Sara loves the
passion that the center’s caregivers bring and knows that they
truly care about every resident.
Sara lives in Dundee with her husband, Matt, her son, Carter
and daughter, Kate. In her spare time, she loves traveling and
spending time with her family. In addition, Sara keeps busy in her
capacity as co-owner of Cupcake Couture, a women’s clothing
boutique located in Historic Downtown McMinnville.
Director of Rehabilitation Services
When she was young, Angela Milstead knew she wanted to
pursue a career in health care. When it was time to choose a
particular field, Angela knew occupational therapy was the best
fit for her. Angela loves putting her problem-solving skills to
work as she helps patients live as independently as possible,
regardless of physical limitations. As director of rehabilitation
services at Life Care Center of McMinnville, Angela oversees
patient care and guides a team of physical and occupational
therapists and speech pathologists.
Born in Keizer, Oregon, Angela was awarded a bachelor’s
degree from the University of Oregon before earning a master’s
degree in occupational therapy from Tufts University in Boston,
Massachusetts.
Angela lives in Dundee with her husband and three children,
who keep her busy with sports and dance schedules. When
she’s not helping Life Care residents, Angela enjoys camping,
snowboarding, playing golf and attending concerts.

Amy Asato coined the phrase “laughter and smiles are a part
of our uniform.” This statement was so well-received, it’s now
posted in conspicuous locations throughout Life Care Center of
McMinnville, where Amy serves as resident care manager. In this
role, Amy manages patient care in a facility offering short-term
rehabilitation, long-term care and post-operative recovery for
a wide variety of patients. Amy is proud of Life Care Center’s
inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and 24-hour skilled
nursing care, which utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and
therapies.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Amy earned bachelor’s degrees in
both family resources and nursing with a minor in psychology.
Before coming to Life Care Center of McMinnville, Amy gained
experience working with children with autism and behavioral
health issues. She also spent 1 year as a mental health RN at
Oregon State Hospital.
Amy lives in Salem with her dog, Kenji. When she’s not at Life
Care Center, Amy enjoys building and fixing things.
At the age of ten, Zo Tewksbury was certain she was destined
to work in a medical field. Two years later, Zo saw her first
physical therapist and knew physical therapy was the career
path she’d choose. She was right! As a geriatric physical
therapist at Life Care Center of McMinnville, Zo helps patients
in strength training, balance training and functional mobility
training to improve their independence and quality of life.
Zo earned a bachelor of science degree in human physiology
and psychology from the University of Oregon before acquiring
her doctor of physical therapy from Pacific University in Forest
Grove. The Molalla, Oregon native is also currently training for
certification as a wound and lymphedema specialist. Nothing
pleases Zo more than seeing improvement in the lives of her
patients and their families.
When she’s not helping patients, Zo practices what she
preaches and stays healthy by running, walking, hiking and
participating in Crossfit. She also enjoys Star Trek and making
costumes.
