On Sunday, May 17, 2015, the 140 members of the Class of 2015 celebrated their four-year accomplishments at Cor Jesu’s 56th Commencement Exercises. Laurie Hunsicker Phillips, CEO of St. Patrick Center and a 1988 CJ alumna, was the keynote speaker. The Cor Jesu
Academy administration, faculty and staff congratulate the school’s newest alumnae on their contributions to the school community and the
community at large. We are extremely proud of the mark they have carved on their alma mater — congratulations, Class of 2015!

A Fond Farewell
As the school year has come to a close, we want to thank the following
faculty members who will be pursuing new endeavors:
MS. LESLIE BRADSHAW taught French
this year, sharing her love for the language and her experiences from travelling abroad. Next year, she will have the
opportunity to live in France, teaching
English to French-speaking students.
MS. HELEN COLSTON has been sharing
her love for math and learning with CJ
students for 18 years. Ms. Colston has
worked closely with many students,
encouraging and supporting them as
they mastered the many challenges of
math. Next year, Ms. Colston will be
teaching at The Fulton School.
MRS. JAIME INMAN has been sharing
her passion for business and computer
with CJ students for the past three
years. She will be teaching at Lindenwood University and helping students
as they navigate the college process.
DR. BILL JOERN has been a member of
the science department for the past nine
years and has been instrumental in the
Independent Science Research class. He
has shared his love for learning and science with our students and showed them
how to research and design experiments
and projects that answer questions and
solve problems. Dr. Joern will be retiring
but will continue to work on a part-time
basis with Ms. Goeddel, mentoring the
young women who are taking the
Independent Science Research class.
DR. KEVIN KNICKMAN has shared his
love of social studies and history with
CJ students for the past 10 years. He
has encouraged them to use their gifts,
challenging and supporting them as
they grew as learners. Dr. Knickman
has accepted a position at the Collegiate
School of Math and Science, where he
will teach social studies and lead the
social studies department.
SR. KATHRYN PRESS has been teaching
Theology I and working with Campus
Ministry for the past two years. She
has also worked closely with freshmen,
helping them navigate the transition to
high school. Sr. Kathryn will be living
on The Hill as a member ASCJ’s formation community and doing course work
for certification.
MRS. TAMMY RING has been a working
with students in the CJ Learning Center
for the past two years, sharing study
techniques, helping them to prepare for
tests and exams. She has also shared her
wisdom on how to lessen stress, be a
good student and work efficiently. Next
year, she will be working as a learning
consultant at the elementary-school level.
MR. KELLY WHITE has been teaching
Algebra II, Engineering and Environmental Engineering for the past four
years. After 20 years in the corporate
world, he accepted the challenge of
teaching at the high school level, sharing his love for math and science with
his students. Mr. White looks forward
to retirement and the opportunity to
travel and spend time with family.
MR. RICH WHITED has spent countless
hours fixing computers, assisting with
sound at CJ events and working closely
with students, faculty and staff. His
patience, humor and spirit of generous service will be missed by all. Mr.
Whited will be retiring this year, but
will return to help with special events at
CJ throughout the year.
We thank these special people for all they have shared with the CJ community and
pray that the Sacred Heart of Jesus will bless each of them and their families!

the 2015 Annual
Catholic Appeal High School Promotions Video Contest. Abby’s video
submission was part of her final portfolio project for her work in Independent Study in Motion Graphics
class. Abby was the first student to
enroll in this new class offered for
the first time this fall. The award was
also accompanied by a $500 grant
to further the video production program at CJ. Congratulations Abby!

13th Annual Grandparents’ Mass. We invite
all our current students and their grandparents to join us for a beautiful Sunday
liturgy, followed by light refreshments.

SUCCESSFUL END TO
SPRING SPORTS SEASONS
Lacrosse
Varsity Lacrosse finished the season with a 15-5 record. The team
marched through the postseason to
take on St. Joe in the finals of the
Missouri Lacrosse Class 2 Championship. This was the most successful
finish in the programs history. JV
had a fantastic season as well finishing with a 14-3-2 record. Soccer The tough regular
season schedule
for the varsity
soccer team paid
off for them in the
postseason. The team
defeated Mehlville and Lindbergh
to win the district championship. They went on the shut out Jackson
in the sectional round, advancing to
play St. Joe in the quarterfinals on
March 30. The quarterfinal game
was a battle at 0-0 until St. Joe
got the only goal of the game with
under four minutes remaining in
regulation. JV finished their season
with an 8-4-3 record and the freshmen team finished 8-3. Thank you to the moms who came
to our April board meeting and have
already volunteered to help next year!

Thanks to the moms who showed up each month to work their lunch-time slots and
to the moms on the special events team, who volunteered their time on evenings
and weekends to staff our store. We would like to welcome Kim Boatman to our
team. Kim has graciously volunteered to help co-chair the Spirit Stop.

YOUNG NEIGHBORS IN ACTION
CHICAGO SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 21-27 in Chicago, Illinois
For a second year, Cor Jesu joins with
the Center for Ministry Development to
offer this weeklong “Young Neighbors in
Action” summer-service learning experience. Taking a deeper look at the issues
surrounding poverty, 23 students and four
adults from the CJ community will work
with teens from across the country in the
Chicago area.
CLELIAN HEIGHTS
June 20-27 in Greensburg, PA
Sr. Kathryn Press and Sr. Lauren Zak will
accompany eight rising seniors to Clelian
Heights School for Exceptional Children
located just outside of Pittsburgh. They will
work alongside the Apostles of the Sacred
Heart at a summer camp for developmentally challenged children.
SANTA MARIA SUMMER SCHOOL
July 5-11 in Bronx, NY
Sr. Kathleen Mary will accompany six
rising seniors to Bronx, NY, this summer
where they will minister to the students at
Santa Maria School, an ASCJ elementary
school. The CJ students will be working
with the students in the summer-school
program.
Haircuts for Love
Thank you to our generous hair donors
and stylists at CJ’s Haircuts for Love on
April 28. Because of your generosity,
235 inches of hair was donated to Children with Hairloss, who help children
who have medically-related hairloss.

daughter accesses her account, she
can look up the classes she is taking, her grades once they are posted
by the university, and her financial
status? Visit www.myslu.slu.edu and
enter her user name and password.
(She received this information before
signing up for courses. If this is
her first semester enrolling in the
ACC program, she will receive this
information via email from SLU.) At
the www.myslu.slu.edu site, select
the “Student” at the top of the page
to review all of this information.
Also, as a parent, you can access the
student handbook and other pertinent information about the program
at SLU’s 1818 site at www.slu.edu/
x15948.xml. This site will also give
you information on making tuition
payments, as well as important dates
to remember. Simply click on the
Student Button on this page. If your daughter entered her social
security number when registering, you
can use her tuition as an education
credit when preparing your taxes. If
she did not and you want to do this,
call the 1818 ACC office at 9773142, ext. 4 for more information.

Cor Jesu also has a partnership with
UMSL for college credit courses
that we do not already offer through
SLU. A parent signature is required
to sign up for UMSL, and the
paperwork needs to be returned on
September 9. Courses at UMSL
through the ACP program are $64
per credit.

Students taking courses through
SLU and UMSL must have a 3.0
cumulative GPA. Advanced Placement Courses
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors
have the opportunity to participate
in Advanced Placement Courses
(AP) in conjunction with the College Board. Students in these courses
may take the AP exams in May 2016
at a cost of $91 per exam. Students
will sign up for AP exams in February 2016. Information for sign ups
will be given in a future Principal’s

and return all paperwork to CJA by July 15, 2015. We ask for these forms to be

all daughters leave with a prize. If you
haven’t tried to match wits with a CJ student you should!
Also, very special thanks to Sr. Barbara
Thomas for her support of the CJFC
and its mission. Sr. Barbara takes time
every month to attend our board meetings and share her vision of what we can
do to better serve the school.
Back to School BBQ – Our kick-off
event where dads share fellowship and
learn about CJFC activities for the
upcoming year. More than 100 dads
were treated to BBQ by Brian Backer,
Leo’s Wings and Kraftig Beer at our
kick-off event.
Movie Night – More than 250 dads
and daughters enjoyed watching a movie
under the stars. Many thanks to our
Movie Night Chairman Tom Pandolfo
for organizing the event and the Leo
Anglo family for all the great snacks.
Father/Daughter Liturgy – This is
always a highlight on the CJFC calendar
and it was no different this year with
a full gym once again. A big thanks to
Father/Daughter Liturgy Chairman
Dan Tarlas and his team for another
special day with our daughters.
Father/Daughter Bowling – We had a
great turn out at Crestwood Bowl with
plenty of food and drink and 10 lucky
gift cards winners. Thanks to event
chairman, Tom Pandolfo, for organizing
and Mike Bluth, owner of Crestwood
Bowl, for hosting the event.
Father/Daughter Dinner Dance – A
record number of dads and daughters
danced the night away. The Tom Breitenstein Memorial Award was presented
to Dan Tarlas for his tireless work with
both the CJFC and the CJ Advisory

Fix-it Nights – Many thanks to Bob Curran, Fix-it Night Chairman, for leading the
LED-lighting project this year, replacing
lighting in 10 classrooms to earn credits
through Ameren.
Spring Meeting – Jeff Welker and Mike
Amad were our presenters for “An Evening
with a Brewmaster.” Thanks to our BBQ
team headed by Brian Backer and Kyle
Olsen for the great food and to Jim Lewis
for handling master-of-ceremony duties.
Parking Committee – Mel Leong and his
team do a great job of making sure parking
works smoothly at CJ events. Big thanks to
our parking team!
As you can see, it has been a great year! I
want to take this opportunity to thank all
the men who have selflessly supported the
CJFC. As our family’s time at CJA comes
to a close, I will look back on my experience with the CJFC fondly. The CJ family
are truly the best. The commitment of
the parents to this wonderful community
certainly reflects the passion we all have for
this amazing school.
A big “thank you” goes out to the CJFC
board, committee chairs and volunteers
for the time they dedicate to this club. The

bright. We will have a strong leadership
team again next year, who will continue
