Page 6b The Fayetteville Press Newspaper July 2010 Edition Entertainment Page THE NEW CLUB INTERNATIONAL Twinkle twinkle, babies. It’s your favorite “starchild” buzzin’ among the stars with a little chitterchat… Did you get a chance to see the BET Awards? The pioneers of the industry really strutted their stuff, including P’Diddy, Queen Latifah and the glorious Ms. Patti LaBelle, who Prince even gave a standing ovation to. But the awkward moment of the night was when El DeBarge came on the scene. He was warmly received by many who probably didn’t even know his name before that night. His gaunt frame bore the years of trial and trouble he had seen over the years. When a friend of mine asked me, “Who’s that old white man?” I knew El’s struggles were indeed showing heavily on his face. His new album appropriately titled, “Second Chance” speaks of his hardships and drama over the years. The album is scheduled to release Sept. 28 of this year and am looking forward to seeing if El can bring back the magic again. Go El, GO! Well, they say a hit dog hollers. Is that what happened to Tyler Perry? Sources claim a recent episode of “The Boondocks” was so true that Tyler Perry thinks nobody could have known some of the information that was featured in the show. He believes that someone on his staff leaked information to the writing staff of The Boondocks. Because he has no idea who it possibly could have been and is so dedicated to his craft, he decided to fire EVERYBODY!!! Well, alrighty then! This has the potential to be EXPLOSIVELY hilariously…or not. Will keep you posted. Moving on… My former Radio One co-worker La La Vasquez finally married the man of her dreams (and baby daddy) Carmelo Anthony. Took a long time to get there and it was a little rocky, but the deal was finally consummated. Oh wait. I’m talking about LeBron. But I digress… The wedding of VeeJay La La and B’baller Carmelo Anthony had a star-studded turnout, including another former Radio One co-worker Ludacris, tennis star Serena Williams, and LeBron James and his lady…who was probably wondering when the King was going to finally pop the question. (What?! ALL these babies and no ring yet?! Hmmmm) And speaking of King James, so he’s going to Miami. Is that such a bad thing? After that little letter tirade from the Cleveland Cavs’ owner, I can see why LeBron swam for warmer waters. Too chilly in Ohio. By the way, Cleveland was offering the King more to stay. But LeBron decided to leave anyway…just going to show that sometimes it’s not about the money. It’s about the spirit. Get your happy on, LeBron! On a sadder note: Gospel music icon Bishop Walter Hawkins passed away in Oakland, CA recently after suffering with pancreatic cancer. He was 61. Bishop Hawkins was a contemporary gospel forerunner who rose to prominence as a member of the Hawkins Singers along with his brother Edwin in the late sixties. And on a lighter note: One of the hottest videos going viral via YouTube this summer is “Shawt Bus Shawtay” by BeYoOwnBoss Entertainment. They’ve made a parody spoof of 4 of the hottest rappers out today. It’s sadly hilarious. Hilarious because it’s off the scale funny and true on many levels. Sad because…it’s embarrassingly not so funny and TRUE on many levels. Sometimes you really don’t know whether to laugh or cry. So you get popcorn. ;-) That’s it from your favorite poetic “starchild.” You know you can always tap into my Matrix on Facebook at iamvaljones.
