Books, videos & DVD’s for Loan Free of charge Our Lady of Lourdes Page 11 February 21, 2016 ZIKA VIRUS: The latest news indicates that the virus is spreading rapidly throughout Venezuela as well as Brazil. Eric Metaxas wrote at www.breakpoint.org on February 12th: "While Zika is rarely, if ever, life-threatening, concern about the illness could prove fatal for one vulnerable population: the unborn...Make no mistake: This is a serious health crisis. According to the Mayo Clinic, the complications from microcephaly can include, among others, developmental delays, mental retardation, and seizures. Noticeable by its absence in the list of complications is death...No sooner had the tragic stories from Brazil hit western media than abortion-rights advocates began using the tragedy to argue for the liberalizing of abortion laws in Latin America...Folks, these children deserve our support, not a death sentence." PLANNED PARENTHOOD: The special congressional committee investigating Planned Parenthood, the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, announced that it is issuing subpoenas to 3 organizations involved in the possible trafficking of human organs - StemExpress, The University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options. StemExpress is the company that partnered with PP to extract tissue and organs from aborted babies' cadavers. The University of New Mexico had a close relationship with one of the nation's most notorious late-term abortionists to receive aborted babies' tissues and organs for scientific experiments. Dr. Curtis Boyd of SWO is one of a handful of abortionists in the country willing to perform abortions in the third trimester. The New Mexico Alliance for Life uncovered documentation that showed 'fetal liver and kidney samples were obtained 15 minutes after termination from 6 fetuses ranging from 12 to 22 weeks gestation'. New Mexico Alliance for Life is questioning whether Boyd altered the abortion technique in order to obtain the greatest number of organs. Boyd is listed as 'faculty' in university documents. (Ben Johnson, 2/12/16, www.lifesitenews.com) A Harris County, Texas, grand jury has indicted Center for Medical Progress (CMP) investigators David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, but declined to indict Planned Parenthood after CMP released an investigation last year into the sales of aborted baby organs at PP. Daleiden and Merritt were indicted on charges of tampering with a government record. Daleiden was also charged with the purchase and sale of human organs. Cassy Fiano reported at LiveActionNews on Feb 10th that "even abortion advocates are finding themselves troubled by what a prosecution could potentially mean." Pro-abortion law professor Sherry Colb of Cornell University stated, "Whatever the precise facts of this case prove to be, the prosecution has broader implications, and not just for abortion and anti-abortion speech. Undercover exposés play a vital role in informing the American public of important facts that would otherwise remain hidden...We oppose efforts to criminalize undercover investigations, regardless of the investigators ultimate motives." SPIRITUAL ADOPTION: This program involves making a personal commitment to pray daily for one unborn child who is in danger of being aborted. You are asked to ‘spiritually adopt’ one unknown baby and pray that this child be carried to term and experience the fullness of life as God intended. Daily prayer: "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” (Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen) VISIBILITY MATTERS: There is a weekly prayerful presence at the Planned Parenthood facility in Massapequa on Saturday mornings, 10:30am-noon, 35 Carmans Rd, Massapequa (across from the mall parking lot). We can feel the rhythm developing. Sunday is always our celebration of the Lord's resurrection, and establishes our theme for the week. Wednesdays and Fridays remind us of our commitment to a change of heart. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday re-introduce us to wonderful scriptures for our journey. Saturday is always uplifting and joyful. The Opening Prayer of the Liturgy each day continues to guide our prayer. As we experience how simple these prayers are, and how easy they are to make our own, we find ourselves praying together in the same Spirit, with one another on this journey, around the world.
