From the Desk of Mr. J:
Thank You for Fifteen Wonderful Years
Retirement! How can I put into words
the amazing experience I’ve had at the
Center over the past fifteen years? In my
sixty-four years in the healthcare field, I have
held many rewarding positions but none have been more
personally gratifying than being the President of Schreiber
Pediatric Rehab Center.
• The skill-level and commitment provided by our Board
members to assure on-going development and growth
• The amazing and generous volunteers who log hundreds
of hours and help with everything from housekeeping to
administrative work to fundraising
I’ve had the honor of meeting many remarkable
individuals—children, youth, mothers and
fathers, guardians, staff, Board members,
volunteers and supporters. They have
all enriched my life and the daily
interaction is something I will miss
dearly.
I have also been blessed to
observe the positive affects the
Center’s staff has on the children
and youth it serves. How could one
not be amazed to see an eleven-yearold girl take her first step, or a six-yearold boy say his first understandable word,
or see the smiles on the faces of the preschool and daycare
students as they learn about colors, shapes and animals?
If I were asked to list the high points of my career with
the Center, I would be hard-pressed to do so since there
were so many. But what I can say is that there are a couple
of things that impressed me from my very first day in the
office and remain the same today:
• The dedication and determination of each member of the
Center’s staff to provide the highest quality of care to the
children and youth it serves
• And of course, the community at large for understanding the
need and value of a place as special as Schreiber Pediatric in
Lancaster County and supporting its mission
All of these things work together to make Schreiber
the wonderful place it is today. My wife, Betty Jean, and
I thank the community for allowing us to be a part of this
great organization that does so much to change disabilities
into abilities every day and look forward to seeing what’s in
store for its future.

Caffeineista
Gus Kourgelis of Gus’s Keystone Family Restaurant poses
with Ambassador Rylee Henry and Schreiber’s Director of
Development, Michele Dombach, at the event kick-off.
Caffeineista Crowning!
The 2nd Annual Caffeineista Challenge, sponsored by Fine
Living Lancaster, was a success once again and raised $3,889!
Each participating coffee shop created a special ‘Schreiber’
drink and donated $1 to the Center for each one sold. The
winner of the Caffeineista Challenge, with most drinks sold
and a donation of $589, was Rachel’s
Café & Creperie with the Nutella
Peanut Butter Cup!
Thank you to all the shops
who contributed to the
success of the event! We
can’t wait for next year!
Rachel Adams of Rachel’s Café &
Creperie accepts the Caffeineista
winner’s trophy with Ambassador
Ashlyn Shaffer.
Softball
Weekend
Appreciation
Softball Weekend wouldn’t be
the same without the support of the
Fraternal Order of Police, Red Rose
Lodge #16 (FOP). The organization
has been a driving force behind this
successful fundraiser for 30 years! In
April, they even surprised Mr. Jefferson
by presenting him with a plaque for his
service and dedication to the Center.
Thank you to the FOP, as well as all the
committee members,
volunteers, sponsors,
vendors, staff,
team captains and
players, who made
this year’s Softball
Weekend a success!
Schreiber President,
William Jefferson, with
Ambassador Rylee Henry
and Harold Gainer of the FOP.

Two Kids with Big Hearts
for Schreiber
Seven-year-old Sachi
Singh’s parents
should be very proud
of their little girl. In
Alex Oleska of
Troop 281 recently
presented his final Eagle
Scout Project to Schreiber.
He designed and then
created wooden crutch
holders for our Physical
and Occupational
Therapy Departments.
As one therapist happily
exclaimed, “Thank you,
Alex! No more tripping
hazards around the
gyms!”
lieu of gifts, this birthday
girl asked her friends and
family to make a donation
to Schreiber Pediatric after
learning about the needs
of others in the local
community. She truly
enjoyed her tour of the
Center, especially a quick
swing in the Occupational
Therapy sling, and hopes

Therapist, Angie Rice, and

turns 8!
